So quick back story before I get into it....

I have a four year old son that is non verbal autistic that has a serious interest in Legos, magna tiles, coloring, and marvel action figures. Being that he can not communicate we are constantly trying to find different ways to interact and bond with him so I took on this project in an effort to get him more interested in the shop. He loves to help his mom in the kitchen so I get a little jealous!

Here it is... Spiderman vs Venom..... shop stool..

Don't clown me to hard since I am not the most creative nor do I have fancy fab tools. I built this using only an angle grinder, chop saw, 110v Lincoln mp140 welder (I am a mechanic so thats the extent of my metal fab tools).

I started by making a hexagon out of 1/2" square tube. I cut out a 60* slice and bent the tube in every corner. As for the wheels they are 4" casters from HF. The wheels are screwed into a 1/2x20 nut i pressed into that round tube and welded in place.

Next I created the middle section. The upright piece is 1 1/4 square tube 14ga and the pieces going out are 1" 11ga. This was a struggle to get everything to line up since I don't have accurate cutting tools. The pull pin i got off Amazon for an exercise bike.

Next I started welding the beginning of my spider webs. I bent the 1/4 solid tube on standard weights I had laying around. Getting everything bent accurately and aligned was a real pain!

The seat i cut from 3/4 ply wood scrap I had in my shop using my router.

Still to come..
I ordered caps for the round tube so it looks complete
Upholstery on the seat with the Venom logo. I already spoke to an embroidery shop and they are going to sew this on it
And paint!

I am not a professional metal fabricator so please don't judge me as such!

Very nice work, I think you did a hell of a job on the fab.
Thank you!

I struggle welding mostly because my welder is complete ****! Being a 110v unit you have to run it on max heat at all times for it to weld worth a damn regardless of metal thickness. I run .030 wire in it so maybe thats the issue? When welding square tube it dosen't weld hot enough to weld a nice flat bead so you have to bevel and gap everything. Another issue I have is tack welding. You have to put a bigger tack to hold it then when you weld over it, it looks like a blob. If you zoom into the welds you will see what I am talking about.

One day when I make it I will buy myself a bad *** 230v machine, a lathe, end mill, plasma table, and a CNC machine! 🤣

put me down for two man 🤣
Unfortunately the minimum order is 3! Lol

Ya I know what its like with a 120v unit. I sold the one I had and got a Miller 211 I became a better welder overnight.
I am sure a good welder could get a decent weld with any machine but that ain't me.

🤣

Is Batman no longer popular amongst the youngsters now-a-days? Has Spider-Man taken over?
IMO the Batman movies have gotten dark with story lines not suitable for really young kids. I am 40 so I grew up with the Michael Keaton Batman which is childish compared to something like The Dark Knight.

Right now the hot thing with kids is the Spidey Kids cartoon which I don't care for. My son likes the super hero cartoons from the 80s-2000s, for some reason thats about the only thing he will watch. I do like watching the G1 transformers with him so I can't complain.

I got the frame painted yesterday. Everything was just shot in rustoleum rattle can so nothing fancy or special. I am going to try and get the seat to the upholstery shop next week (I already got a quote for $80)! Once I get the Venom face on it its going to be bad ***!

Here is the update for everyone to enjoy. 20250822_140910.jpg

I was wondering about this project!

Made a repeat customer a stool as well and when I posted about the center brace, someone mentioned it looked like a spider web lol

Yours came out badass!

Man life happened over the past few weeks. My 2 post lift broke the concrete floor on my shop, luckily nothing was damaged! Concrete companies in the area were 3 weeks out so I had to do it myself with the help of a good friend. We cut it out, pinned the concrete, and mixed 45 bags of concrete in 14 hours of hard labor! While waiting for it to set i had to work out of friends shops or outside in the Texas heat! Possibly the worst part was clean up in the shop, everything was covered in concrete dust especially my tools!

Since building the stool I have purchased one of these rollers at an estatesale for $50. It would have been nice having it when I was doing the bends! 20250802_132143.jpg
