I bought a cheap press wood closet shoe organizer. It has 6 12x12" cubbies about 12" deep. I've probably got 60 cans on it with room for a few more. It fits nicely under the work bench so they are out of the way, but readily available.

Did you do the laser cutting yourself, or farm it out?

What did you pay, or would you expect to pay a local shop that does that kind of work?

Anybody have a ballpark of what a shop might charge to do the required laser cutting?

No idea on price, but a lot of laser-cut projects I've seen like that were done by someone with access to a makerspace. I'd venture that's probably how Retrosmith got his done.

Wish I had access to anything like that near me because I definitely would be a member.

There is a laser person / shop in just about every town now. Wheeler is right about Maker Spaces, DIY labs, etc.. they will often have a few people willing to cut things at a good rate.

I for example charge anywhere from $1-3/min for laser jobs (24x18 bed w/60w laser), but file prep, materials, etc.. all come into play as well. Something like that file cut in 1/8" is probably 30-45 mins? There are better options imo...

1/8" or 1/4" baltic birch is likely the best suited material for the laser, but w someone mentioning that WOOD is prone to SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION perhaps acrylic is a better choice, but more money.

I did it myself using the local makerspace. They've got a large format laser cutter. As far as charge, PM me - although shipping might be pricey depending on what you're thinking.

THis is a pretty clever idea......and cheap as well.
Yeah, and best of all IMO it's super easy. Usually the cheapest DIY options involve a lot of extra work, so like everyone else I often just buy the ready-made versions of a design and size that's usually a compromise for my needs. Rare is the instance where easiest of options in whatever size I have room for is as easy as screwing up a piece of vinyl lattice and calling it done.
