This guy is a long way from home. First Gray Canada wrench that I've found.

I found one of these in a haul I grabbed this week. Any info on Gray Canada?

After further investigation, the wrench I found likely has zero connection to Bonney. Though, there was a connection at one time. Gray is still making tools today. They have a bit about their history on their website HERE.

The most unusual thing about that wrench might be the hex throats! I can't recall seeing a hex throat on any type of Bonney OE wrench. You're conjecture on the grind-off makes sense, LS. I would normally tend to think post-war on this (I can't read the date code, but as far as I know, only the box ends were Bonaloy line until 1946), but it is plain steel and roughly finished, so I don't know.

I added a 1/2” combo to my TuHex group today. The other three all have “Alloy Steel” forged in, but this one says “Chrome-Vanadium Steel.” I’ll take a closer took at the date codes, but too tired tonight.

Found a pretty big DOE Bonney wrench and my second Bonney hammer at the flea this weekend. Pictured are both Hammers, the one with the dimples was one of my very first Estate sale finds sev years ago.

NICE big, OLD DOE. I think “Dimples” has been rehafted. Haven”t seen a Bonney catalog pic of that style handle, and the head is mounted upside down. Nice job, though. Either hammer have a model number on it?

I cant see a model number on either hammer. ill look under a mag glass later tonight. I'm sure that upside down one has been re handled. but I sure love that handle! Is this something someone did or did some hammers come dimpled like that ? It sure is comfortable in my hand.

I have a few Bonney hammers. None have a number on them.
I’ve seen handles modified like that before. I think it’s a way to make them ‘anti-slip’.

I have six. Five have “BONNEY” stamped on the left cheek, oriented from the face to the ball pein, and no indication of model or weight. One has “BONNEY / MADE IN U.S.A. / PH-8” on the left cheek, oriented from the top of the adze eye to the bottom. I take it to be a later production, post WWII, at least. All strongly resemble Stanley hammer heads, though I think they also look a bit like Plumb.
I think RagTopTA’s dimpled handle is a Hartwell Brothers (Memphis, TN) “Vacuum Cup” pattern, shown on p4 of their No97 catalog. (I’ve held one or two in vintage stores, and they do have a nice feel, but I doubt their claim of callous-massaging benefits would stand up to medical scrutiny.)
Not positive, but looks like “LL” is visible in Rag’s photo, about where the logo should be stamped.
I have a hammer somewhere that I rehafted with one of their “Flama” handles.

EDIT - here’s the logo from a different Hartwell.

That's an incisive bit of research, LS. And here I thought some wood bees with an elevated sense of geometric uniformity had gotten after it! :)

Todd: Not sure how I missed your right angle set in pouch! Superb! I may have to try to entice you to trade that to me for some tool-board-completing wrenches. :) I have a few of those, picked up onesy-twosy, no rollup. It's one of two sets I need for a Bonney wrench set full house.

Picked up a couple bonney rolls after some "make offer" haggling on ebay. It always surprises me how many of these old bonney tools still have decals.

Dayton by Bonney ratchets

Just wanted to cross-post this group of Dayton ratchets, now that I've learned the first 3 are Bonney, rather than Thorsen made. Enjoy, and forgive the upside-down orientation!

I like collecting the Bonney rebrands too. Got on a kick a while back.

Didn't know Dayton's were Bonney-made. The gear heads look very similar to the Bonney "sweetheart" 707's. Here's some internals of that - perhaps you could compare it to your guts?

The tri-wing selector ratchet is 1967 to about 1977ish. Still haven't nailed down the year they went to the single ledge selector.

The front one is perma-sealed, with a sweetheart stamping, but no snap-ring on the underside. The second one has does not have a sweetheart stamping. It has a snap-ring, I can do some exploratory surgery this weekend, but both of these ratchets are dead ringers for Bonney 707's I have seen in other threads. And thanks for the flip, 3bay!
The front two both say "PAT. PEND." on the underside of the handles.... if a patent is "pending", would that leave the applicant open to other companies ripping off their design before the patent is officially granted?

Also, I noticed that my older Dayton sockets have the same "dimple" detent locator as Bonney sockets, and no individual part numbering.

For $2.00 from a thrift store I got a Bonney Bonaloy wrench 2893B 7/8" X 3/4" double box end wrench and a A20 5/8" half inch drive socket.

Now that I think about it, I find alot more 1/2" drive Bonney stuff than any of the others. A bit of 1/4", some 3/8", a smattering of 3/4" and never seen any 1" drive.
But 1/2" ratchets and sockets pop up fairly regularly. SAE that is - metric is virtually non-existent.
One of those things that make you go hmmm.

I have a almost complete set of metric 1/4" and 3/8" Bonney's but maybe one of the 1/2" drive metric. They were made but back when I got my setup from the jobber the 1/2" metric was a extra $90.00 and I passed on it.

Before the thread moves too far along, have to post the B shield 3/8 ratchet that matches PartsGuy’s Dayton above.

OMG! Look at the condition of this Nov1945 Z25 set in pouch.
Fantastic. You've seen my 1944 No. 25 set. (Re-posting a few pics just for comparison.) If I didn't already have it, I might be tempted to see how low the guy would go with an offer. I wonder if it's postwar 1945 and plated? Or if those faces are just highly, highly polished. The shanks look satin.
