Sunday, I nabbed several wrenches at Jake’s flea; mostly dupes.
Today an eBay find was finally delivered via USPS. A size “B” Princeton-shield S-wrench, it was sold with a small cache of Barcalo tools, and now joins my size “E”. I’m a little miffed about the shield and letter in reverse directions.
Keeping an eye out for A, C, D, etc, as they seem to be of a different set than the A and D V-gullet S-wrenches (no Bonney markings) that I have.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets peeved that some of these OEM's weren't more consistent about markings when setting up their dies!

How dare they screw up our display plans 80+ years later!

I've got the same issue with Mack, Southington, and several others.

A couple of Bonney Ratchets that followed me home today on the "too cheap to leave behind" principle.

Bonney T-703K Flex Head (with Chrysler MTSC Award markings)
Usually these are preserved intact in master award sets with genuine imitation gold electroplate coating. This one is a fine example of "ridden hard and put away wet" Which is encouraging as despite the lipstick applied, this feels like a real workhorse with 78? gear teeth.

The A702K was a welcome find also. First one I've had. Love the feel.

Hi! I'm new to this thread. Here's a couple double box end Bonney wrenches from my grandfather's collection that have become mine.

On the Top is a 2811E 7/8" x 1-1/16" that needs cleaning (I just found it today). On the bottom is a 2812B 1-1/16" x 1-1/4" that I cleaned a couple days ago after finding it.

I am currently building my tool collection to carry around with me on the farm so I am constantly looking for old tools laying around to fill it. If I find more Bonney tools, I might post those up too!

Nice finds!
The dual see-saw pawl design is very much like the new S-K DX90 upgrade kit. By offsetting the two pawls a half tooth, it effectively doubles the count while not affecting strength at all. 36 actual teeth translate to 72 effective teeth.
When NOS they are a bit clunky, but once broken in are pretty nice. Though when they get really worn the internal pawl-to-head geometry changes and cause broken pawls.

Yes! The tennoner has a very even coat of light rust, just the way I like to find things. I’ll get that cleaned up and see how well it works.
The catalog is lovely as is.

Snagged this Bonney PH-2 4 oz. ball-pein this morning at the flea. Has the cool serifs in the font and the MADE IN U.S.A. marking. I think it's been re-handled, but it's also vintage (Hartwell Jewel Hickory), and probably a long time ago, so I don't mind so much.

That is a beauty, Lugz! The PH2 3-1/2oz gasket hammer is one of the sizes I have yet to find. Should be 11” OAL.
I have substituted a 10-1/2” Vaughn in the meantime.

Quakertown Flea Market finds today.
I wanted to buy a $2 2810 (15/16x1”) Bonaloy Made in USA DBE, but the vendor kept disapearing. I’d look back from a distance and he’d be shmoozing somebody, so I’d head over, but he’d be gone when I got there. I’d stand there with the wrench in my hand, looking around expectantly, to no avail. Finally, I just set it down for the last time and headed home.

I guess he was not too concerned about making money. Too bad that is a good deal for a bonaloy. The swap meets around here have no bonney stuff. I usually resort to ebay if I am looking for one.

Having gotten the first layer of rust (and aluminum paint) off the 8” S-adj, I compared it to two others I had. I think this represents all Bonney styles. I am not sure of the chronology, but since the one with the shield-shaped hanger hole is stamped with the patent date, and I think all three have the lost work takeup coil spring covered by the patent, I think it is earliest, followed by the round-hole. The new guy is quite different - unique keyway, generally larger and bulkier, but with a full cutout in the handle. It more resembles a Barcalo (bottom) in overall look, and possibly the more commonly-seen Wescott (I think I have one, but not sure where).
I have not been able to back the thumb nut screw out (opposite side from others), so may have to source a gallon of EvapoRust (couldn’t find any last time I looked for it). Usually, I prefer the wire wheel.

It was months ago at TS. Probably a temporary outage, or I just didn’t spot it (was really there for some paint).

Metal Rescue, eh? HD is a lot closer than TS to me. Thanks!

Hello guys, new guy here! Love the Bonney stuff! I have 2 BonECon Ratchets, a 3/8" & a 1/2". The 3/8" was locked up so I disassembled it and low and behold the smallest spring I have ever seen (lol) was broken (pawl to lever spring) in 2 pieces. To make matters worse I lost the bigger broken piece! So I disassembled the 1/2" (wanted to clean and service it anyway) to compare what that spring was like. The measurements of both are in a pic in this post. My question is this; is there a company who makes small precision springs? Or a company who can make custom springs?

Welcome JjKk!

For small precision springs, try gun parts places. Many firearms utilize tiny springs internally - perhaps they might have something that will work for you?

Yeah man thanks. I found some spring kits that have
(1.6mm) dia × 3/4" long springs on Brownells site that I'm gonna order. I can try to cut the length down to 10mm or so and see if that works! I'll keep this updated!

Picked this set of spring clamp pliers up off the 'bay rescently! Very nice and clean! Are they a newer offering from Bonney or older?

They are not earlier than 1947. There is no "recent" Bonney production. Out of business since 1990's. They "look" 50's or 60's to me, but postwar and modern collectors may be able to help you in more detail.

That depends on what you consider old and new. For me, Bonney tool* production breaks out into pre-Durham ownership (1870-1906), Durham ownership (1906-1953), and post-Durham ownership (1953-1995ish). The patent on your pliers was granted 19Dec1961, so in my broadest terms, it is “newer,” but just barely. I would expect those were made for Bonney by K-D Manufacturing in Lancaster PA.

*Bonney Forge continues today with production of non-tool forgings, a fact rarely ackowledged by tool enthusiasts. Note that while we mark 1967 as the year Triangle acquired the Bonney tool lines, the Bonney Forge history marks it as the year Gulf+Western acquired the Bonney forged fittings lines.

We have our own thread for K-D tools here on GJ, with much more in depth information and several orders of magnitude more examples of tools than AA's, linked here. You can see an example of Corbin type hose clamp pliers made by K-D and marked K-D for their own sale in post #6, posted by d42jeep (Don). They are later production than yours with the classic K-D ribbed knurling on pressed steel formed handles.

Primo! You don't see big ones like that often, especially in such good condition.

Now you'll just have to complete the 3/4" drive socket sets to go with it!

Nice waterpump pliers. I think late 1930s to early 1940s. The CV logo suggests prior to alloy restrictions. The straight ends to the grips, I don’t see in the catalogs, but I think I have a pair like those myself.
That 3/8 to 1-1/4 wrench set is wonderful and puzzling to me. I’m sure I’ve seen one or two of that series, but I DON’T see them in the catalogs I have access to (maybe someone else does). From the V-gullets, full-polish, and lack of Triangle stamp, I think they have to be from 1967, or close to it. If so, I guess made in Orangeburg SC.

I forgot to take screenshots of the punch they come in. Has the logo and info on it.
This set was a BIN and at the same time there was another exact set (the pouch was a little better condition) bidding on eBay. I lost that auction but bought this set.

Triangle or pre-Triangle, those smack of conglomeration with Utica and Herbrand under KH in Orangeburg, in the sense that Bonney never designed a wrench like that in Allentown (or Alliance, O.) that I am aware of. At least not through the 1957 catalog, which is as far as I have ever gone. Unless I missed them.
