Wow. $50, huh? Plus a roundtrip ticket...

Well I've got a question on something...What do you think of this date code?
Diemaker error? Or does it just "look" like an "L"? The other side has that "V" and a line that could have been another date code, but not nearly as distinct.

(And maybe this has been asked before, but why is this thread in General, rather than Vintage Tools Discussion?)

Well it can't be an L. They start with M.

the "Show us your Duro Indestro" thread is also in "general".
I would imagine there are others as well.

Got another deep metric Loc-Rite in 3/8" drive last week.

Here's my current set.

Deeps 9 thru 19mm (missing the 18)
Shallows 6 thru 22 mm (missing the 19 and 20)

Very nice! I have yet to see a single metric loc-rite in the wild. Only a few on eBay, although I have resisted the temptation so far on those.

Thanks!

Yeah, the metric sockets are a bit rare. especially if you're like me and only looking for one or two. Sometimes complete sets pop up for big $$$, but individual sockets don't surface often.

Finished a single set of Zenel miniature engineer wrenches - H10, H12, H14, H15, H16, H18. All but the H12 have remnants of the Zenel decal. (There's an H12 with decal on eBay right now for $18. Wish the price was within reason.)

(Backside of the H10 is actually a stand-in; the one with the decal has PO initials on it. Thanks to the generosity of another GJ member for the stand-in H10 - it's in better condition on both sides - practically unused - but didn't have the decal.)

Also, a full shot of what I've got. Some are obviously easier to come across than others.

I was looking at my Zenel does today (I know, what else do people do on Mondays?) and thinking about date codes. I expect my collection is small enough that any statistical observations I make are bound to be misleading, but I noticed that I tend to have multiple examples of a specific month/year, with large time gaps between, rather than several months and years spread evenly through a period of time.
For instance, one Dec1934; one Nov1936; one Aug1940; three Jan1943; three Nov1945; one Feb1946, one Jun1946, two Oct1946; two Jan1947, two Mar1947, one Jun1947.

If this pattern held true for larger sample sizes (ideally, everyone's Bonney collection) it could show production patterns of various tools. It seems unlikely Bonney would have a dedicated forging set-up for every tool they offered in constant production, but rather they would respond to demand on dwindling supply by assigning the production of that tool to equipment that was currently producing something for which demand was lower than existing inventory.
This would mean, perhaps, no Zenel does (of a given size at least) might be produced in 1944, despite being sold continuously from existing inventory.
Also, since the forged date codes actually mark the creations of forging dies, rather than individual tools, it may be the gaps represent periods when the tools were actually in production, but on dies created months and even years prior. Maybe gaps such as I am seeing (again, my sample size is so small as to mislead), indicate that dies were never created for certain months, and perhaps, certain years, because existing dies were in good condition, whether the tools were in or out of production.

Picked these up off eBay. They were an impulse buy, but I have decided that they will go great with my long pattern SK in my box at work. Missing the 9/16" and 3/4", but I have a standard pattern SK in that slot for now. Can't wait to use them.

I have a set of the long full polish in metric and SAE (my first Bonney tools!). Never knew about the shorts till a few years ago.

Have gotten a partial set of the shorty satin metrics put together. Still working on that.

I would also like a set of long metrics
I have a few of them but finding a set here would be next to impossible.
They don't even come up on eBay with an international shipping option much.

They come in a dark blue vinyl pouch.
I've had my set since 1981. I've never broken one, stripped one out, or bent a shank. And I've used them for virtually everything a DIYer would do and some work stuff.

Keep an eye open. Epstein's came across a small NOS stash of Bonney stuff a few years ago. Like finding a time capsule. Stuff went fast! You just never know.
And you might inquire on the forum. Some foreign members have had local guys pick up tools and then do the shipping to them. The worst that can happen is they say no.

I have only two pieces of Bonney tools in my collection, I purchased these in the late 70's when I was working at an auto parts store.

Very nice! That is the long pattern version of the set I just got. Excellent wrenches, that are still very usable.

Thanks! I cleaned them up a bit this morning. I wish the roll was still as flexible as it probably was when new. I even got a chance to use them today. I bought an oxy acetylene cutting torch setup (bottles and cart- no regulators) at a garage sale this morning for $5 that had a bent up cart. Looked like the someone let the cart fall backwards and the weight of the bottles bent the frame. Bonney wrenches were nice to use to disassemble and reassemble after straightening the pieces of the cart.

Cool! I think I've got the same two torque wrenches (same boxes, anyway) - except mine are branded "Utica."

The 3/8" is marked "TCI-150RA." According to the receipt, I purchased it for $49.99 in '93. (The 1/2" is in my storage unit, so I don't have the number at hand.)

I never noticed before but you are right, mine are stamped Utica. The 3/8 inch pound wrench is the same number as yours, the 1/2 is J0954L. I cannot remember what I paid, but we were able to purchase anything there at cost to the store. Needless to say I purchased a lot of things.

That's great. I have been keeping my eye open for any kind of estate auction or farm sale that would have some older tools. I have found that such events are few and far between in southeast Texas

I saw a red Bonney Loc-Rite peg board yesterday. It had no hooks and no tool outlines or part numbers for tools. I wonder what it went to. Sorry to say I was a bit too junk drunk to buy it and when I went back the seller had left.

Figured I'd post my findings here also. Does anyone know where I could get a rebuild kit or just the spring for the ratchet? Everything looked great internally besides the stiff spring was bent. I put it back together but it only ratchets one way. When I turn the selector it just locks up both directions

Picked up this beautiful 11" Zenel 3034A (15/16x1-1/16) DOE at the flea today, which I did not already posses. Remnant of circular Zenel decal. Forged-in code KW (Nov1945).
Also bought an E26 in plain steel but good condition. No pic of that.
