Sweet set dutchgray. Yeah, shipping can be a pain but it is what it is. Buy what you want and enjoy the heck out of it.

Had some time today to build a rack for the Bonney DBE single offsets.

1.5 x 1/8 aluminum flat, 1/4 redi rod, #12 (3/16) flat washers for spacers.
5, 6 and 7in lengths as needed. Need to decide how I want it finished, but that
will have to wait until I find the 1" wrench to complete the set.

Found another Bonney in the pile if someone needs it.

Couple of Bonney items from the flea market. DOEs appear to be whitworth? The larger socket is marked 7/16"

I posted a thread with mostly nice old Bonney in the Vintage Section. Figured I would link from here.

Only date codes were on the large wrenches - KW with 2 or 3 dots on 3 of them, largest one was blank. Deep sockets must have been bought at a change over time. Some had circle CV while some did not - some USA while some Made in USA. And a mix of those combinations.

View media item 64266Got a 3/8" drive SAE hex bit set. This was already in the UK so was pretty cheap.
Thanks for the comments on the socket set, I knew it was a good buy when I saw it because I don't see many sets on ebay.

Nice set!

Could you be missing one? Looks like there is a bit of space left over.
I have one of those. Can't remember the size, but if you need it and we can figure out a way to get it to you reasonable it's yours.

Some interesting finds at the flea market today.
A very lightly used ⅜ CV breaker bar KO - maybe 1937.
Three unfinished DOEs: a Craftsman CI with one gullet finished, an un-hardened Zenel tappet with neither gullet ground and no size stamps, a Bonaloy with neither gullet ground (going to take some doing to get that rust off).
A #29 USS-marked B-shield with no visible date codes, so maybe 1906-1920.

Possibly, I reckon one more would be a very tight fit.
I have
1/8"
5/32"
3/16"
1/4"
5/16"
3/8"
I'm not entirely sure what is complete for SAE, I only occasionally need it here and I constantly find old hex keys about so usually just use them.

Edit: Just been and looked in a catalogue and it looks like 7/32" should be in the range.

Found an oddball Bonney directional cutter last night. Forget the number on it, 5XX I believe, but has Bonney written as "Bonney" with the quotation marks.

A sad day for my Bonney appetite on Saturday last.

Picked up this pitifully-pitted 404 tappet. One gullet is deformed and I can bend the shank in my hands (maybe it "survived" a fire). I think it's interesting that it says "Chrome-Vanadium" on the one side, and "Alloy Steel" on the other, like it's a new thing (which of course it was in the early 1920s).

Then, sob, I was rooting through a small tool tote marked $20 with a mix of tools, including a lot of 1920s & 30s Bonney CV DOEs and some similar-era Craftsman sockets and other sundries, when the vendor tells me another guy just bought it for $15!
Ah well, no problem, I was only going to offer $12, anyway. But I hadn't really gotten to see what treasures lurked at the bottom...sob!

On the upside today, eBay delivered a set of 1927 (though described 1940s) CV miniature engineer wrenches. Here they are in nickel-plated senility, H10-H18, posing with the next generation, the Zenels (including quirky H15), and my sole representative of Outlines, H16. Still haven't come across the Streamline version of these guys.

Some nice additions, LesserSon. You've about got the market cornered on those ZENEL wrenches!

I was able to add a few Bonney pieces to my horde on Saturday. A 12" adjustable and a 3/8" Bonaloy combo dated A.Y. I've got a nice set of the Bonaloy combos going now. I need to find some more before it goes all cold. :3gears:

Alright guys, ran into another oddball.... This does say Bonney Quality Tools, doesn't it? I know the tops hard to read, but, that's what it looks like, right?

The only other possibility I was thinking was Barnes, but a google search of the logo shows zilch. While Bonney used the Quality Tools line in almost all catalogs until the 60's

Unfortunately, I'm on my phone and can't read it but it looks like they may have filed a copyright for Bonney Quality Tools around 1957. Search books.Google..com for "Bonney Quality" using the quotation marks.

Driving home today from my parents' place in north-central PA, I followed signs to an antiques barn. Not much in the way of automotive hand tools, but I did luck out on this 503D (3/4x7/8), which I believe to be my oldest Bonney wrench, at about a century. This is Philadelphia-made, before the move to Allentown, right?

I can't find any evidence they made regular wrenches (non alligator/ pipe) before Allentown. I'd put that logo between 1909 and 1920ish.

:)Thanks for the estimate, Twertsy. It's still my oldest, even if it's not Philadelphia-old.
Here's the other side.

I picked up a pair of pre-war BON{/}NEY (CV) angle head tappets today. One of these days I need to gather all my pre-war Bonney, take some pics, and dangle it as trade bait. The only reason I pick this stuff up is to fill y'all's shelves and advertising boards! :D

Back in 1964-65, a neighborhood hardware store carried a little Bonney. One wrench set I remember was a DBE 4 or 5 piece set. The pouch called them outboard motor wrenches.

They are replacing a set of craftsman 12 points and will share duties with a SK 6 point set, which after using the Bonney, I don't think the SK are going to see a lot of use.

I got a NOS Virgin Bonney 3/8 rhft? ratchet if anyone wants to trade I'd take a different USA ratchet 1/4 or 3/8 .I'm not a bonney collector really I also have a 3/8 13/16 spark plug socket and 6" extension in decent shape also I'd throw in prefer something name brand.

Forgot to say nice collection fellas I do love old tools just never got into bonney and thought one of you would appreciate it more and maybe finish a set or collect it as it has never seen a socket and has no scratches or swirling it's as new not sure on age but I'd say more than 30 years as it's older than me it seems.

I like bonney. The newer stuff before they went out of business seemed to rust easier.

I have some bonney made john deere wrenches. I bought them because they were made by bonney and not the john deere logo, but the fact they were stamped deere worked to my advantage. The person sold them by pricing them against the newer Taiwan jd wrenches sold on ebay so they were much cheaper then if I had bought bonney stamped ones.

I wanted a bonney combination set that went through 32mm on ebay in the worst way. price skyrocketed to 300-400 in the last minute.......

Conversely I saw a single wrench in a box of junk tools bring $30, at a live estate auction this summer. As soon as the auctioneer said there was a John Deere wrench In the. Box bidding got crazy. It was a 3/4" iirc.

Just got these beauties today, bid on them and eBay and ended up winning! 19-16mm are almost perfect 15mm has some chrome peel but is usable, 14mm has been modified. Can't wait to put these to use, I'm going to keep an eye out for the 13,12, and possibly a 10mm.
