The Bonney Jackrabbit Wrench is described on p67 of the 1914 catalog as having openings for each of the eight principle nuts used on farm machinery. Made of malleable iron.

Edit - Aw heck Twertsy, you beat me by five minutes!
Been trying that catalog but all pages are blank on my end, except for the front page.

Huh, try downloading it and then opening it. I have the same issue at the office sometimes.

I switched over to Chrome and got it uploaded in a split second.

Here are a few Bonney sets i have

8 point wrench and a starter wrench

attachment.php

Hi Bob15, sorry to reply to such an old post but I found an 8-point Bonney like the one in your picture in an old car I'm cleaning out to sell for a family member. I have seen old square-head lag bolts, but is that what this wrench was made for, or something else.

Thanks for any knowledge you can share!

The D2857 (double-square openings) and 2857 (single-square openings, at least until it was discontinued) wrenches were made to adjust early Ford brakes. They were offered first in select steel, then CV steel, Zenel steel, and finally Bonaloy steel. I have one in CV, and a comparable #6000 wrench made by LectroLite.

Good to know, thank you. Not sure what I willl do with it, don't have any early Fords!

Ran across these three pairs of 401-series tappet wrenches in a small shop today, and they followed me home. Date codes 1926 & 1927.

I thought I lost the 1/4" Bonney ratchet V-702K and today I digging around my other garage and I found it. Now I have the complete set of 1/4". 3/8", and 1/2" Plus I have a gold flex head 3/8" that is not pictured. I was digging around the other garage for something else I put in a cabinet and this pops up. I have never seen any having the 1/4" ratchet either on eBay or anywhere else.

Posted on Twertsy's Ratchet Collection Thread, and now here:
Traveling through Lewisburg PA, I stopped in a "Street of Shops." Tools were few among the hundreds of stalls, but I spotted this partial set (some of the sockets are filled in from other mfgs) of Bethlehem Spark Co ratchet/sockets made by Bonney. Traces of the copper plating remained. The box was wood with most of the hinged lid missing. Marked $45 - well above my idea of its value.

A triple play of Bonney. What a sight!

Notice the tri-wing selector knob on the 1/4" vs the single ridge of the larger two? I believe the tri-wing design is original, started in 1967. The single ridge was on-line by 1981 and stayed until Bonney ceased production in 1994.

Exactly when the switch occurred I don't know. I want to say I saw a 1977 catalog and those rats were still tri-wing.

Now all you need Mike is a Bonney 3/8" drive in a 1/4" body! :lol_hitti

I bought the entire set in 1982 and the V-702K might have been a left over from the earlier years. I always wondered why the 1/4" had the Tri-wing design and the others did not. What I think happened is the single ridge was done first to the 1/2" and 3/8" and they finally did the 1/4". I did take it apart and greased the moving parts and the ratchet is almost as smooth as my 80 tooth Snap-On. I actually like to use the Snap-On if clearance is not a issue as it is has a longer handle, if I run into a clearance issue it is the Bonney as it has a shorter handle. Edit: I have added a picture of my gold flex head 3/8ths that I acquired from eBay. I had a standard flex head 3/8ths that a five finger mechanic took out of my toolbox years ago.

Picked up five Bonney Shield wrenches today at a neighborhood yard sale. The seller had quite a hoard of various old USA tools and masses of unsorted fasteners. Among these, a Ford reverse gear, and a small DOE having an unfinished gullet.
Anyone know what the CV 9268 single-open-end obstruction wrench is for? The other side has another number 43525. The date code is either DO or DQ, so mid 1920s. I haven't spotted it in any of the catalogs.

And some new stuff today: a big old WP4 phillips screwdriver missing the ferule (I probably have one that will fit. Jason, are you still gathering these?), an A704 ratchet in working order, a TuHex DBE, a Zenel 3034A DOE, a CV drive stud remover, and two 1st generation Bonaloy combo wrenches. There were several sizes of these, mostly marked with the initials REO, but of the ones available, I already had examples of all but these two.
Remarkably, there's a WP4 screwdriver on eBay (with paint and ferrule) not far from my location: https://www.ebay.com/itm/132280079808

Very nice find on the hammer.

After several years I have come to terms with the fact that brass hammers are not a common item in my neck of the woods. Almost wonder if they didn't get scrapped when brass was high. I still keep an eye open for one, just in case.

I have never seen a used brass hammer for sale anywhere locally. I think very few people buy them new.

Have a question for all you Bonney fans. I have a Bonney combination wrench set I'm thinking of selling. 11xx series, longer than standard length, looks like what you'd call a full polish, 3/8" to 1". It's missing the 1/2" and 11/16" sizes. I do have some wrenches I could substitute from Williams Superrench, Proto, or Armstrong, but not all the same--each of the two subs would be different from each other.

Here's the question: do I put in the substitutes to complete the set or sell it as all Bonney without the missing sizes? And if subs, which would you prefer, Proto, Williams or Armstrong? :dunno:

May want to check HJE, they have a few Bonney wrenches on closeout. It may be worth while to fill out the set, even if you end up with a one or two satin finish wrenches.

Is your set 12 point loc-rite?

DadsTools, I think if a person needs a full set of USA wrenches, and doesn't care if they are all Bonney, then they probably don't care if there are any Bonney.
I think just sell what you have. A full set will command a premium over a broken one, but sourcing the missing ones will cost time and money, eating up that premium.

Does the set look like this. If they are. they are the full polish set longs. I do not need your set as I also missing the 1/2" long, but I am just posting this so you have a idea

Oh....that is some nice tool **** Mikeske
Thank You those are my original set of wrenches that I bought in 1982. Someplace I also have a full set of metrics that I have not yet located but I still have another garage that I have not yet finished cleaning out. I used those wrenches daily as a aviation mechanic until I retired earlier this year.

I bought a box of various Bonney sockets and wrenches from a guy last summer. There were also Proto and New Britain in the box. He had it listed on Craigslist for piece by piece with a cost for each individual socket etc.

I told him I'd give him $50 for all of them and he agreed. There were probably 150 sockets and 75 wrenches including a bunch of old 1in plus box wrenches.

Great to see Bonney here. Really like using them.

I picked up a Bonney usa 2810 double box wrench, deep offset, 1"x 15/16" 12pt the other day. I was looking for a 1" box 6 point to cut up and make a tool post wrench for the lathe with.

So before I cut this up for my use is there anyone willing to trade a 1" 6pt , good brand, deep offset, for this one? This is engraved and a couple of stains from rust. Just offering to the group if it is something special or needed to complete a collection or set.

If so PM me

Well went out and hit a 2nd hand store and found a 7/8ths Bonney tubing wrench and a Herbrand 11/16ths and 13/16ths deep well sockets. Yeah I know Herbrand is not Bonney but they have the triangle on them so I posted a picture of them.
