I never knew Bonney made Whitworth stuff until someone posted those tools on GJ. I've never seen any in the wild - you could be in for a long haul on those.

Yeah, fairly rare I would imagine. I think I have one socket and a streamline DOE wrench. I don't think I have seen any others in the wild, or on eBay.

Boy that is a beautiful set, a little rich for my blood, but someone got an excellent set of wrenches for a good price. I usually end up piecing sets together and probably end up paying well above that...but I just don't learn..lol

Yeah and I do the same thing is piece the stuff together, When you already have 90% of the tools in the set and you just need to complete it out why buy the whole thing. I also have to consider the room in my 44 inch Harbor Freight tool box as the Bonney tools has already over run 4 drawers.

Now if I could ever find a NOS 27" Bonney toolbox and top like my original box I buy it.

Don't think I ever posted these here. All from one yard sale, haven't seen any since. Lacking 7 more to have a No46 set.

I see a reasonable amount of Bonney Whitworth stuff on ebay here, I don't buy it as I don't need it and find so much good Whitworth stuff locally and cheap.

Today's Bonney flea finds: a ball pein hammer and a CV No2535A 3/4" Hupmobile brake wrench, c1925 (BU).

After having to go to 4 full drawers on my Harbor Freight 44" toolbox I decided to take the Bonney tools and have their own dedicated toolbox. I have a old Waterloo manufactured Bonney 27" top and bottom box so looking at the old Bonney box I moved all my Bonney tools into the old toolbox that they came in.

Bonneyman and others - thank you for the comments on Bonney Whitworth wrenches! Perhaps I'll get one or two as an example, but will put the brakes on shooting for an entire set of combination wrenches!:3gears:

Thanks for the comment. I was busy today removing a bunch of old aircraft stickers that were bugging me. I left a few on and it is a work in progress. I repair a couple things on the tool cabinet and I ordered 10 new slider locks off eBay (this is a old Waterloo tool cabinet with top box) I have 8 slider locks missing. I also replaced the pop rivets on the right hand side of the top lid and straightened the lid so it now closes. I just wish the combination was in better shape. Man has that box seen better days. I am not going to do a full restoration just make the tool cabinet and top functional. Build date on the box is 8/83

Definitely would like to see restoration pics, Mike.
I just do not know if a restoration of the Box is feasible. In a couple spots on the box the metal is so thin and the rust was over half way through it. I am debating what to do at this point. I do need new locks as the locks are both frozen right now and the keys are well worn. The issues come from the fact that the box spent 30 years in and out of weather on the flight line. Years ago I had to replace the casters and my boss handed me new casters 3 times better then what I had. I reenforced the bottom of the cabinet with 1/4" thick aluminum plate and drilled new holes in the bottom. I was thinking just treat the rust and leave it as is. That box earned its battle scars and is not worth anything on the market as it is a Waterloo box from the 1980's and the Craftsman from that era are the same just different colors.

Now on to the days find at the antique stores my wife and I went to. Had a great time and it was a productive day in finding three Bonney wrenches and 1 old Herbrand wrench.

Bonney wrench 2525
Bonney wrench 664A
Bonney wrench 1727
Herbrand wrench 3731B

The thought I had to cross my mind is to take the nameplate off the Bonney box. Take the tools out of it and go to Harbor Freight and buy another red tool box, remove the US General nameplate and install the Bonney name plate on the US General tool box and call it good. Put the Bonney tools in the new "Bonney" tool box.

Then I be just like the Snap-on pretenders.:bowdown::bowdown::rocketwho:uzi::gunfire::+1:

Yeah but would it feel right  OH YEAH. Today I popped the Bonney nameplate off the box and cleaned it up and touched up the paint on the nameplate.
It probably be a while as I want to wait to see if I can get an 44" for $349.00. If not then the 27" for the same price. I actually prefer the 44"

Are these guys the "flange drive" version? I'm needing a set of sae wrenches for my montezuma box but I really need a set of 12pt flare's for ac and hydraulic lines more. These will do both and I can hang them from the wrench pegs.

Those are nice LocRite flare combos. That set skips over 13/16 & 1-1/16. If you need those sizes, it may take some patience to source them.

I'll source another brand for those two if needed but this set will have most sizes covered. Now, only if bonney had made a metric set...

Yep LocRite, and that doesn't seem like a bad price to me. Although, the two missing sizes may set you back another $40 or so.

OH yes they made metric flare wrenches back they were combination sizes. On the first picture it is the left hand side of the picture, 2nd picture the wrenches all nice and snug in their case and the 3rd picture the wrenches are on the near side

Well ****, I have to look for a set of those now 😆 Did they make metric 12 points? Hardly ever see any metric bonney anything on fleabay.

I didn't think 100 bucks was that bad for a set considering what you'd pay for one today.

The numbers in the part number is the MM size.

I have in the smaller sizes 6 point and the larger are 12 point.

I just check the 1986 Bonney Catalog that Bonneyman put up a while back (I saved it to my computer) and no they did not make 12 point only 6 point. I never seen any Bonney 12 point in the wild metric flare wrenches and my set I bought in the early 1980's and hardy used it as I worked on Boeing aircraft from 1987 until I retired from Boeing in April.

I was excited to pick up this Bonney Champion clamp vise this morning at the flea market. It has 3” jaws and the antique era trademark on it. And I really admire the design of the inverted V-shaped slide guard over the screw. This thing is heavy for its size!

I’ve also included a scan from the 1914 catalog below. My example has a spindle, not a wingnut, so it might be a little later.

Well after doing a detail examination of the old Bonney Toolbox set I have determined that it is not repairable. The entire bottom of the box is held together by straps and a 1/4" aluminum plate I added on to the box ten to fifteen years ago. The rest of bottom of it is nothing but rust.

So I grabbed the Bonney nameplate off the old box and cleaned the nameplate and touched up the paint. I then went to Harbor Freight and bought a new 44" bottom box and moved all my Bonney tools to the new "Bonney" toolbox. Now I god forbid a Bonney Pretender.......:eyecrazy:

Here's a treat I spotted today at the flea. In the end, I left it behind, but after a pleasant conversation about some of his other wares, the vendor graciously allowed me to take a picture. The best thing about it was the good condition of the CV decals. The next best thing was the asking price of $20. But the tools themselves were crustier than they look - seemed like a tough job to clean such small tools while protecting the decals, and I have a feeling that's cadmium plated, so probably DON'T mess with it. A bit confusing, since the 1938 catalog states they are "heavily chrome plated." I think the specific CV decals on these place them at the beginning of the CV run, so too early for WWII restrictions. Maybe nickel gone real bad?
Then the pouch was fragile and stinky with mildew, which is an allergy trigger for me. This is the second pouch I've encountered in the wild, and both had the same smell. I really like the look, but I guess these pouches are not for me, at least in the condition I've found them in, and without the pouch, the tools would not have survived together.
Well, the vendor was a tool guy, so I have no fear they're in danger of winding up in the trash.

Bummer. I guess that's the way it is when you like/want old quality tools to work on new vehicles.

The old Bonney toolbox was sold yesterday. I got way more then I expected as it was Craigslisted and a buddy of mine saw it and bought it for the asking price. He is a professional mechanic and builds engines. He told me that when he tears down a engine he rolls the old beater boxes over and puts all the parts he pulls in the old tool boxes. That way when he goes to reassemble the engines all the parts are in one place. He did mention he wants to take the casters and replace them with some junk ones he has and use the casters taken off and put on his work bench as they are way better then what he has on the work bench. Oh well the old Waterloo/Bonney toolbox will still be used.

I have never bought any toolbox that I develop an attachment to so the Old box was just going to be collecting dust or get rid of it, I chose to get rid of it and the chief money minister got the money paid to her. She was happy and since she never developed any attachment to it was happy. After my buddy left my wife asked how I paid for the box back in 1983. I told her the combination was $150.00 as I still have the old original receipts from the truck dealer at Kelly AFB, TX. The box was built in August 1983 and I bought it new in December 1983.

But I kept the Bonney Logo for my US General toolbox and it is now on that. I actually was surprised to find out it was made out metal and not a sticker.

Well, someone jumped on the flare set before I did. After more ebay browsing I ran onto utica and Kelsey-Hayes loc-rite versions of what looked liked bonney flare wrenches. After a little reading I found out kelsey hayes bought utica and bonney. So I'm assuming all these are pretty much the same flare wrench design correct?

According to my 1977 Bonney/Utica tool catalog - Kelsey-Hayes bought Utica in 1956, then bought Herbrand in 1961, and then bought Bonney in 1964. They then sold the whole hand tool division to Triangle Tools in 1967.

From a Google search, the moveable pin Cam-Loc design was patented in 1951. I've seen various names (most notably K-H, Utica, and Bonney) stamped on tools like that.
Loc-Rite - the forged steel version - was patented by Bonney in 1964, but the earliest catalog evidence I have of it actually on tools is 1967.
(Perhaps Loc-Rite tools stamped K-H and Utica were made in this 3 year period before Triangle bought all of them?)

1967 is also the year that the V-gullet was introduced, known as Hex-Fit.

I believe this set is from the 20's. As found - have not been cleaned. Set also came with a couple extras tucked in the tool roll.

If anyone is interested, I would be willing to make a trade for these.

As some of you know I have a thing for tiny wrenches. I don’t think I’ve ever shown this one before. It’s marked EDISON-T NO. 25194, only faintly visible, because the entire wrench has unfortunately been machined down on that side.

View media item 74895
View media item 74897
The faces are not marked with sizes but the milled openings are 1/4” x 5/16”. It’s from one of Edison’s industrial R&D labs (chemistry, physics, metallurgy, etc) in West Orange, NJ, which closed soon after he died in 1931. The West Orange campus was huge – 100 employees, several buildings – including a machine shop. EDIT: The machines are still in place, by the way, in what is now a National Historic Park well worth visiting.

If you’re wondering why I am showing it on the Bonney thread, check out the forged-in marking on the flip side.

View media item 74896
It’s a “GV” looking an awfully lot to me like a July 1930 Bonney date code!
