Some folks must of been snoozing on this set up. I make the only bid a day before the auction ends and won it on one bid $39.99. A partial set of Bonney 1/2" deep well 12 point sockets. So it has 10MM, 12MM, 13MM, 14MM, 17MM, 18MM, 19MM, 20MM, 20.6MM, 21MM, and 22MM. I already found a 15MM and 16MM and I have rarely ever used a 11MM but if one shows up I grab it.

Been focusing on finishing my metric wrench set. But I kinda wish I had saw that set, however I’m glad it went to a good home.

Edit: check HJE they still have some NOS Bonney and they may have 11mm due to it being an odd size.

So, 20.6 MM is for 13/16" spark plugs?

That is what I figured but no rubber insert and 12 point. Kind of a counter to what is to be expected. I never had any of the 1/2" sockets in metric. 1/2" SAE yes I did. I always wanted some but working on aircraft never really needed them as most sizes are SAE and can done with a good set in 1/4" and 3/8".

Cool!

I, too, rarely need an 11mm - but OCD is a bear!:lol_hitti

I got the 15MM and the 16MM sockets in 1/2" drive today, They are 6 point and the rest are 12 point but they do get the set closer. Now just to find a Bonney 11MM in 1/2" drive long.

I stopped at the Qmart today... bought every satin bottom socket and almost every streamline wrench I saw. Pics later.

Picked up this 4093 ratchet for $2 today, mostly because I didn't own a 1/2 plug before this one, and I'm sure I'll need one eventually. In looking it up online I don't see any others with proud rivets on the head. Anyone know why this one does? Maybe someone rebuilt it back in the day?

So today’s Bonney load... I usually don’t post before pics, but this is the most Bonney I’ve ever purchased in one shot. Hell I only bought Streamline wrenches and satin bottom sockets. That only accounted for 1/5 of the Bonney up for grabs.

4176b9d0da80791f9a67e27154615746.jpg

The wrenches and two Streamline Ratchets. The first two I ever spotted in the wild!

e522b47c9816bb4fc233200a3e067d86.jpg

Which included 3 metric DOE’s

63ba690be7df2be4b105875eee8b61bf.jpg

And a metric combo!!!

1f5ae1a1b97c5c910a8c19a132cb2168.jpg

Then the sockets...

e9e612fcda6b72646574095d0ca61c91.jpg

Think I noticed it before but didn’t realize it. Dates on the variation on the knurling?

0429aba8ea9591197d331c40e9604a27.jpg

And those two are stamped upside down from the rest.

And there’s more to come from this gent in the near future. I used to buy a lot off him when I worked around the corner from this flea market. Now it’s maybe 2-3 times a year I get up there.

Good! I haven’t been there for over a month. Travel, visiting, etc has taken most of my weekends. I did stop at a yard sale yesterday on PA87, just outside Barbours. Only interesting item was a 1995 silver one-mantle Coleman lantern, but the pump stem didn’t engage anything to screw down. I decided it wasn’t fascinating or nostalgic enough to own.
Glad you’re onto the Bonney Bounty at Q-town.

I went to Quakertown yesterday and picked up some Bonney odds and ends, including a 1-1/4” Bonaloy combo from March 1944 or 1947 (haven’t decided whether it’s CV or CY) and a handful of drivers. The vendor also had a C1 (1947) catalog with price list insert, in great shape (the back cover has a wrinkle), but I passed because I have a decent pdf. It was cool to hold, though.
Today I went to Jakes in Bally (thus learning I had missed the Bally community yard sale yesterday), and picked up a 3” Champion table vise. Curiously, the original-looking color is black, even though the 1914 catalog says red, and I also have a no14 that is red. This is either a no121 (semisteel front jaw) or a no122 (semisteel both jaws), which I will know when I brush the anvil surface. There is an imperfection on the side that looks like it might flake off, and a couple casting voids elsewhere, but I’m happy.

You know I didn't buy it thinking you would, right? lol I'm going to try to go back on a Sunday in October.

Here, back in post #947, is my 3" Champion, LS. Ignore the green paint, which is not original. Note that both of us have a spindle handle on the bench clamp, not a heavy wingnut as shown in the catalog. I am guessing they're a little later than 1914.

That's true. By 1923 they had moved to the "Garage", "Lehigh", and "Standard" models. However, we don't have any catalogs between 1914 and 1923 that I know of in the public domain. One of those might have shown the earlier "Champion" vises with a spindle handle instead of a wingnut on the table clamp.

Here are a pair of S shaped adjustable wrenches I picked up at a swap meet last weekend. A 6" and a 12". The first Bonney adjustables I've found. Ed.

My mishmash 3/4 drive set has a decent amount of Bonney pieces. Most of these came together, and have initials CM engraved into them.

2 of these are Bon-E-Con, the 2" socket upper left and the larger 8" extension. The rest are Bonney.

I still think the R701 ratchet is a love child between an SK round head and a Snap-On 3/4 ratchet with the removable head. I think it's cool, and not common. Bonney made a bewildering variety of 3/4 ratchets.

2nd from left 1-1/2" tapered socket w/ knurled band came from eBay.

6 sockets in a row match, with a single depressed band on the drive end. On the band they are stamped in small letters with size, Bonney, USA. 180°-ish from the stamp, there is a dimple on the outside of the socket, indicating the detent is on that side of the 3/4 female square. I think Proto is most famous for doing this with an asterisk.
1-1/8", 1-1/16", 1", 15/16", and 7/8". Added a matching NOS 31/32" from eBay for $4 cuz I use that size all the time...:lol_hitti

I think the only items I didn't mention were 4" extension and 1/2 to 3/4 adapter.

Added close-up of socket detents.

Picked up some 1/2dr sockets and speeders, and various wrenches. I almost didn’t buy the 550AS, because some PO decided to grind off the embedded-shield logo and the B-shield on the shank (or maybe a small forging flaw - elsewhere, not the abuse on that face - on one of the faces caused them to do that at the factory). And the 1168 has a fairly strong magnetic field - those are stainless bristles I picked up with it.

Nice speeders. Those, the 3/4 ratchet, curved adjustables, and the other hauls turned this into a  worthy page.

Hope you guys don’t mind a shot of some 3/8 and 1/4 Bonney made round heads.

Nice tri-wing rats.
A bit easier to switch with greasy hands compared to the later single ridge selectors.

Flea find. Princeton logo circle-CV 2028S obstruction wrench. "DS" (April 1927) production. Faint remains of the "PATS APPLD FOR" marking, which makes sense. These were not available in the 1925 catalog. U.S.S., S.A.E., and Hex Cap nut and bolt standard size markings. Milled openings are 25/32" x 5/8". The top side is not terribly unsightly, but the flip side is blotted with box rot stains.

I picked up one of those Bonney 1/2-inch drive adjustable socket jobbies at the flea today. It was attached to a Bonney 4098 ratchet, and when I made a deal for the ratchet, itself a cherished find (wartime, black oxide finish, nearly blemish-free), the vendor said, “I’ll throw in the socket that’s on it for free.” I felt guilty for not correcting him - for about a millisecond before I handed over my cash. :) He was a Snap-on guy and had just quoted me some insane prices for a wartime Snap-on 71-M and some wartime sockets. He had no knowledge of Bonney and treated it like third rate.

3bay posted an example of the adjustable socket that he has had for a long time upthread back in June in post #2389, linked here. His had a part number (2550) and patent numbers (1,554,963 and 1,554,965) both granted Sep 22, 1925. The inventor, Mr. Will H. Fisher, lived in Altoona, PA, which is on the other side of the state. They were not assigned to Bonney. So I'm not sure what's going on there either. More research required.

This one that I found has no part number and no patent numbers. Only the Bonney brand (faintly) from the 1930’s and "PATENTS PENDING". I suppose that means it's older than 3bay’s example. Note that Bonney did not even get into the socket drive business until 1929, and I suspect both are pieces are 1930’s tools despite the patent dates.

Another catalog search yielded zip. As I said upthread, all the 25XX part numbers are special wrenches in the 1930's catalogs. The 1932 cat has a 2549 (Ford special rear main bearing adjustment wrench) and a 2552 (Miscellaneous special wire wheel spoke ****** wrench). That indicates they had assigned 2550 to something (not listed in the catalog) in their stocking system, and it has to be these adjustable sockets. My hunch is it was either discontinued or available as special order only and not listed in catalogs.

Couple more shots...

That’s a great find. The fact that they’re different, and yours may be older. I don’t think the drive end of mine winds out either. I could be wrong though, but it isn’t here to check that.

That's one of the questions I said I had on the Garage Sale thread. The other has to do with operation. I think mine might be broken. It opens and closes, but it won't grab or ratchet. I'm out to dinner. I'll follow up later.

I take that back. It works like a charm. I hadn't tried it on a fastener. I wasn't understanding why it was free spinning in either direction, and why it opens all the way and closes all the way, and opens and closes, over and over again, continuously, etc etc, in either direction, no matter which way you turn it. But I get it now. It needs resistance. As soon as I put it on a bolt, it worked. It closes to the fastener size, grabs, and then it engages the ratchet.

On your question - I think they're just made differently, 3bay. The rotating drive piece on mine sticks out, and it's recessed on yours. It doesn't move in and out. It spins and stays out.

Lugz, the current headquarters of Bonney Forge in Mt Union is less than 30 miles from Altoona. By highway, it’s more like 45 miles. If there is a connection, it could be a difficult-to-trace family&friends connection.

Yep you figured it out, it keeps moving unless it’s gripping something. Both work the same then. It’s kind of difficult to grasp how the internals work like that.

Pretty darn neat though how there are the two variations, yours even having a detent hole for the ratchet.
