Been visiting here often, nice community you all have. This is my first post and I hope someone can help.

I am interested in getting one of these...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/stahlwille-ro...in_3?hash=item27ac43286c&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

If you don't want to click or copy/paste you can see it by going to ebay.uk and searching stahlwille rollmaster.

Hazet made, or makes, something similar, but I want the Stahlwille if I can find and afford one.

Thanks, 7

I only saw this box once, the drawers open/slide to the side. If you have not too many tools this box should work. But i would pay max. 150 or 200 for it.

I updated my info to add my location. Sorry about that, especially considering I usually gripe about people not putting in a location.

The Hazet is OK, but the Stahlwille is way nicer. More heavy duty, better built.

I have other boxes, just always liked this one and am thinking someone on this board can point me towards a good condition cart at a good price.

Thanks for the comments!

Haven't found one yet. I haven't had time to do much searching due to a big project at work. That just finished up though so I will be on the hunt again.

Thanks for posting.

I received several posts and PMs asking for detail photos of the Stahlwille Rollmaster, but was only able to take pictures today (courtesy of a sprained ankle that has kept me home). I had posted pictures in my garage thread and also in the "show your toolbox" thread, but think it will be best to consolidate these here. I hope you will find this interesting.

When I bought my Rollmaster in the late 70s, it looked like the unit in this photo, taken from the Internet.

My Rollmaster had these colors originally, down to the red "Rollmaster" script.

Re: stahlwille rollmaster (as it is now)

I used the Rollmaster as my main tool cabinet for many years. It took almost all the tools I needed to undertake a frame-off restoration on a 1969 Lotus Elan. In the the mid-1980s, I had it repainted by a friend with a paint shop in (for reasons that escape me now) "Ferrari" colors. The Rollmaster remains that way today.

I installed the "Ferrari" chassis plate because I had no other place to put it. This was probably not a good idea, as the Stahlwille is German.

The top drawer swings open all the way to rear, which is handy. I modified the latching system to allow the center tray to swing open as well (it was originally fixed, as shown in the earlier photo of an unrestored Rollmaster).

All three trays can swing out at the same time and remain stable.

Re: stahlwille rollmaster (as it is today)

The "dot" rubber lining in my Rollmaster was installed by me and is not original. When I bought my Rollmaster, it was new, very old stock and did not come with the original rubber mat on the top tray. The inside trays I believe never had any lining.

The bottom of the Rollmaster is simply an empty bin, quite useful actually.

The latch system will accommodate a padlock. The original, wooden knobs give it a nice vintage "old-world" feel.

Scratches, nicks, etc., are obvious in these pictures, but then this is a working cabinet, repainted some 25 years ago.

These days I keep my tools in upright too; cabinets. The Rollmaster remains useful though as a temporary place to keep tools and parts during a job, because it can move right up to a car and keeps these things organized. I plan to install a rubber bumper strip on the front and adapt a lfront-wheel lock, which was missing when I bought this unit.

I understand from a GJ member that Stahlwille discontinued these wonderful roll cabs in the early 1980s. There seems to be a following in Germany, of course, and a Google search will lead to pictures and discussions there.

Charles Darwin, having stayed several months on a desolate island studying penguins, said at the end, "now I know more about penguins than I care to." Now you can say the same thing about Stahlwille Rollmasters.

Regards to all,

Andres

You're all welcome. I am glad you found the photos interesting.

There were Rollmasters being sold on Ebay not expensively, so you might get lucky, Mike.

George, I hope these photos are what you need.

I have also attached a photo of a side of the bottom bin, would you know what the two holes per were for originally? Also, if your front wheel has a locking mechanism, could you post a photo? Many thanks,

Andres

Thanks, George. So that is what the brake looks like. I can see also that the lower holes on the side of my Rollmaster are not original (I might even have been the one who put them in, thinking back now). Your Rollmaster looks pretty original. Post pictures on this thread as you restore it. Good luck, Andres

Mine is probably early 1970s as well, Joki, perhaps even late 1960s. I wonder when Stahlwille started producing the Rollmaster.

I think its kind of funny looking again the liners in the trays on that are the same material used as flooring for many machines my company has produced

I emailed Stahlwille and asked from when to when they build the Rollmaster. The answer was they built it until 1990

Not Stahlwille's fault. Mine entirely. They're quite hardy, though, and don't shift around like the thin liners Proto and Snap-On use.

I like the Rollmaster because of notalgia, too, and the fact that, as a work cart to take tools and parts next to a car, it works very well. Except for the Hazet Assistant, nothing like it, in fact.

I think they are really cool. They should have included one in Pixar's CARS movie.

Because I just found this thread: that thing rocks. I'd pay decent money to find one.

there's a cheap one in Holland right now; pick-up only.

a nice project that could easily(or not so easily, depends
on the skills of the restorer as usual:)) turn out to be as
nice as abstamaria's one.

Gruezi GeorgeK. Very nice work. The light blue is certainly an iconic color, but I prefer the green you used. Was this ever a Stahlwille colour, or just something you preferred? I would love to have a Stahlwille or Hazet rolling tool box, but they are rare as hens teeth here.
