So I realized that stainless food prep tables are not to expensive and should make a nice work bench. Can anyone think of a reason not tp use a couple 96 inchers along the wall.

I've got a whole pile that I've removed from various commercial kitchens and plan on using them for just that.

Not only were they not expensive, I got paid to remove and "dispose" of them.

Dp you guy's worry about them denting easy and I
the ones im looking at are 1200 lbs rated and 625 on the bottom shelf. But at 200 for 96x30x35 ss bench, I doubt i frame and put a decent top on a conventional bench same size

I'm looking for a nice 6 foot with a backsplash. All the ones I've seen so far are pretty lightweight. They wouldn't hold up to a heavy beating. I anticipate having to bolster the underside with planks and build or at least reinforce the legs/frame.

I tried one a few years ago. I think it was a 6 footer. The top was nice and the frame was simple but the joinery between the two was horrible and rendered the bench useless too me with-out modifying it. Make sure the table is assembled on its legs when your shopping around. I'm sure there are some that are more heavy duty than others.

I have a stainless steel front counter out of a McDonald's that I use for a workbench. Its about 12 feet long with shelving underneath it. I beefed up the mounting and shelves but it works great and I am very happy with it.

I have and use one. Works excellent. I use it for assembly/cleaning etc. No problem with denting and super easy cleanup - spray with brake-clean and wipe off.

I have a small one on wheels. Mounted a bench grinder to it with a couple rubber grommets to lessen vibration. I can wheel it outside when I use it so it keeps the shop clean

I would advise bolting a piece of OSB or plywood under the surface to help prevent dimpling or denting of the surface. These were made for food prep, not transmission rebuilds.

I would love to have one myself to use as a hobby bench.

I have one at work and at home. Both are used for general assembly work. One of the nice qualities of a stainless steel is they are impervious to most common garage chemicals. Great for mixing auto paint or cleaning parts too

I have a stainless steel work table but mine is a medical one so food prep is not the only source. I bought it at a garage sale from a senior citizen lodge that was undergoing renovations. IIRC I paid about $20 for mine. Quite sturdy too and came with large locking caster wheels.

I've been looking at getting my current workbench covered with a sheet of stainless steel. 8 feet long, 2 and a half wide. Want a 2 in backsplash. I can't find any place that will do it for less than 450...... You can buy these new prep tables for like 200 for the same size. I don't get it.

I picked up mine from a scrap yard. It has a sink in it and I added a pump to the faucet and use it as a parts washer.
Sink drains into a 5 gallon bucket to recycle the parts washer fluid back to the faucet.

I have a few tables that I have picked up from a used resturant supply house

This one is 16 feet long and very heavy
I also have one in the paint room for mixing paint and it is very easy to keep clean, a little lacquer thinner and no paint spills

As mentioned if you can get one with a sink they make great teardown benches with built in parts washers! got this one for $50 all it needed was new legs that were actually inside under the sink in a bunch of nasty goup. A quick stop to the do it your self carwash and a few tack welds and I am set.

I also have a 8' top only with 6" back splash. Added a few 2x2 stiffiners and placed it on top of two metal base cabinets. Gret gereran bench but not for "beating the **** out of things" cant beat a good butcher block top for that work!
