I'm looking to rid of some of my standing racks to free up floor space. Was hoping to get input on anyone's experience using restaurant-style stainless wall shelving, as seen here:

A 12"x48" shelf runs about $70 on Amazon. These seem perfect for oils, detailing supplies, spray chemicals, etc. I currently have wire rack shelves and have found it difficult to keep cans and such from falling over without a piece of cardboard or similar underneath. My thought process is that these shelves would not only eliminate a rack (or two), but allow for easy clean up. What am I missing here?

I haven't used them in a garage but they are nice shelves in general. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of a lot of open shelving in my garage. It has it's uses but in general I prefer storage to be enclosed with a door/drawer that can be opened. Anything that's out in the open in my garage is going to get dusty as a best case scenario and filthy with who knows what kind of debris as a worst case scenario.

You're not missing anything imo. Those shelves are very sturdy and, as you note, will be easy to clean. They also look good. Win-win if you ask me.

Meanwhile, my wife and I got tired of what Colin wisely mentions above. Our long garage side wall shelving looked like heck with all the junk/stuff I store on it. Thought of hanging 'by-pass' type sliding doors, but was looking at ~ $100 in materials alone. My cheapskate err cheaper solution was to hang 2 HF silver tarps as sliding curtains to hide the mess.

That's a good point with regards to things being open/dusty. Presently, I am using NSF wire shelving for a lot of my detailing items. Those get brought in during the winter. The primary use case for these shelves will be for oil and other aerosol chemicals.

In my old garage I had wood cabinets for many years. Over time, leaking bottles and the like really took their toll on the wood. Additionally, I've had issues both where I forget that I have certain things due to being "buried" in a cabinet and some aerosol cans are too tall for cabinet shelves. So far I have not found many cabinets which would allow two shelves that could fit a tall can of brake cleaner or similar.
