My Old Tools

I hate sanding, so I learned how to use scrapers, card type and stanley #80, #12, abd #112. Here is a page I did one the #80.
My burnisher is just hardened tool steel. It's been years, but I don't recall using any force but the weight of the tool.I really enjoy using the card scrapers, and they're easier on the sinuses and lungs as a bonus. Biggest issue I have is applying too much pressure on the carbide burnisher, ruining the burr before I even get started.
I've never used a scraper plane, just hand-held cards.I think the cutting edge of the #12 & #112 are actually ground at 45*, not square with a burr.
The LN #112 is definitely a 45° bevel. Dunno about vintage Stanley.I think the cutting edge of the #12 & #112 are actually ground at 45*, not square with a burr.
Ok. But the nice video that MOT posted mentioned 3 models of scraper planes, only one gets the square edge.I've never used a scraper plane, just hand-held cards.
That is correct. The burr is actually optional. I relieve the corners just a bit to eliminate tracking. Sharpen both ends, but tape the upper end to save your blood.I think the cutting edge of the #12 & #112 are actually ground at 45*, not square with a burr.
