In the end at least they are still offering up the USA made Channellock's, allowing us to have a choice.
x2. and if I was buying, I would buy the Channellocks every time.

I haven't been to Walmart in a long time, but at the Home Depot, Channellock is getting elbowed out by Dewalt and Milwaukee brand pliers. It's not exactly a secret why (toolguyd post) - but it's not good to see that. Low cost high profit Chinese production tools get the primo shelf space at Channellock's biggest distributor... that can't be good for the Meadville company, and frankly it's not good for consumers.
The dewalt stuff at hd is not that cheap. They are trying to get the dewalt buyer tool buyers to pay more for the chinese hand tool vs getting the husky for cheap or lower margin channellock. The dewalt stuff looks to be decent quality, but not worth the prices they are asking.

allot of their tools have the flag on the front again.
There should be a law....
The Chicom products should be forced to display a Chinese flag of a certain size.

Channellock is getting "elbowed out" by ANY tool brand that sits next to it because it'll be $5-10 cheaper. The brand only matters to a few, especially in HD or Lowes.
They already write country of Origin on the product, its not really as if anyone is hiding anything. That's just another thing for our government to have there hand in, monitoring the size of a flag on packaging.
the issue isnt really with guys like us on g.j ,its more about the unknowing weekend joe who needs a pair of pliers to tighten a bolt on his toilet and goes to sprawlmart and grabs the cheapest pair.... its never going away but if knowledgable people dont settle for junk ,maybe, just maybe the good brands wont end up in china..i also just bought 2 pairs of channel locks and the package said"fiercely made in the u.s.a" which is cool by me![]()
Honestly, that's a pretty smart thing to do if you're wanting to outsell a competitor, but at the same time, it's a bit reprehensible and I find myself loosing what little respect I still had for Stanley.![]()

so it is reprehensible and disrespectful to be competitive in business? wow... sounds so darn american!! (not)
I'd rather buy my Channellocks from a tool store than Wal-Mart anyways. The only time I ever shopped there was when I was in BFE, Pennsylvania and it was the only store within 45 minutes. But, that was because they put 90% of every store there out of business.
It's simple, really. China made junk has a gigantic cost benefit for the producer over American made items. It's no secret that China heavily manipulates its currency so that it can drive foreign competitors out of business in relation to its manufacturing base.
So yes, I find the monopolistic and manipulative practices of the Chinese government reprehensible. The good folks in Meadville, PA make a real wage, whereas whatever poor factory worker in China might be able to afford a bowl of rice and a sleeping rental after an 18 hr shift. As such, I find companies that take advantage of questionable practices reprehensible as well.
...and I find "Americans" that champion the outright deception of other Americans reprehensible as well.

when we're on the winning side, we don't complain. most american's didn't complain when Microsoft was using their so-called "monopolistic practices" in Europe to dominate the desktop OS market. the europeans finally got pissed and sued Microsoft to hell.
