Hello, long time reader here, not much of a poster here, but I thought I would share my plans with you folks.

I have started this job twice before and just got busy doing other stuff and never really finished it.

The first time I was going to blue paint to my walls, that did not work out.

Then the second time my wife helped me, we installed bead board and she painted the walls for me a beige/tan color. That looked much better but my garage was still a mess with all the junk in it. I had built some really strong shelves and used them for a long time, but they are ugly and were full of junk. I ended picking up some used Conley Racks that were being thrown away and that got me off my **** and made me want to get started again and finish this time.

First job is to get everything out of my garage, I have been working on that yesterday and today, taking a lunch break now. I have most out of it now. I am going to rent a floor grinder tomorrow to smooth out the concrete to get it ready for tile. My wife and I decided to use VCT instead of epoxy, I played with a few patterns and came up with one we both like.

I am uploading some photos now, will post them soon.

I replaced the old doors with new doors a couple of years ago, they look a lot better.

My floor pattern my wife and I came up with, going to try and get the tan to match the walls if possible.

Looks like a really nice garage. A little tlc and it will be a real nice space. Is your garage detached?

Thanks, I got almost everything out today, just a few things left in it. It's attached to my house, it's a side entry garage.

It is starting to look good!

Something you may want to think about is the use of the black tile. It's shows dirt very easily and may make it a bit difficult to find a lost screw on the floor. Just my 2 cents worth.

It's really looking good. Painting out the blue with tan was a big improvement. Interesting design on floor. Did you see it somewhere or did it just happen as you two were brainstorming? Keep us up to date on your progress and thanks for the pics.

Looks really nice. I like the beige and the white a lot.

The floor design, on the other hand, kind of makes my eyes hurt. What about just one color, like the tan or a gray? It's be understated, and the car would be the thing your eyes would be drawn to when you look in the doors, not the tile pattern. (Plus, if you drop a handful of screws on a tan floor, they're easy to find.)

But that's my only negative. Otherwise, it's a really cool project.

Jack,

I tend to agree
It took some planning to come up with the floor design...but I think you might get tired of it, and if they ever want to sell the house...well neutral is better

It wouldn't take long for the tile pattern to give me a headache. Other than that I like it.

I agree, that tile pattern was way too crazy. I came up with a real simple one with a white floor with a black border, in the single bay a 2x2 red & white checkerboard and in the double bay a blue Chevy bowtie.

I agree with Jack (looking at his garage, who wouldn't?). Glad you've re-visited the floor design. Actually made my eyes hurt just looking at the screen!

I’m glad you reconsidered the 1st tile layout - it seemed too busy to me. I was having a hard time visualizing it on a floor surface without getting dizzy and falling down.

Good luck on your project. The paint and beadboard look like a great base to start with. The first floor pattern is busy, but I think it might be the contrast between the black and white that is the concern. If the black tiles would be tan, gray or other lighter color, it may work out. Can you post what you did come up with?

I really like the floor pattern I think it's different then most patterns that people use. Good Job. What are the rest of your plans from here on out?

My dad came and visited for 6 days, it was a big help in keeping me going in getting the garage cleaned out and cleaning the concrete. I ended up using the orange cleaner from Zep, a stiff brush and my power washer. The floor looks pretty decent now, I going to tile it maybe it three weeks. I had to order the black, blue and red tiles and they won't be here until the 28th according to the website order tracking.

I started laying the VCT, made yet another change to the pattern.

Here is a 7x14 area that I started to put down, going to finish it this Saturday I hope.
