Well they have started building our forever home. House will be just over 2k sq ft and the garage will be a 25x35. Big kitchen, enclosed deck in the back on just short of an Acre on a golf course.

But here they have started breaking ground.

Sounds great to me. I like the way the lot lies. What state?

I think you have it backwards, you meant over 2k sq ft garage and 25 x 35 house right? After all you did say its your forever home.

Moving along, looks like the footers of the foundation are down. The builder is sending me these, we are not stalking them everyday.

I am sure my builder is really happy I am on the other side of the world for most of this. I love seeing progress, but that is probably why he sends pictures all the time so we can stay away.

But here are some more pictures the wife got today on the way to the community pool.

Master Bedroom in the back right, on the right of that is going to be the golf cart garage/storage area.

Front porch area, followed by the living room, kitchen and guestroom WAAAAAAYYYYY on the other side of the house. (That was on purpose)

The whole enchilada, with the important room on the left, also known as the garage.

The wife is having to make all the decisions on the interior design. I am kind of glad I am not involved.

Unless she does this for a living or it's her primary hobby, I'd suggest hiring a designer whose work you like. Based on the experiences of a few friends who have tried it, chances are high she'll burn out and get sick of it. Just like movers, auto techs, etc, there's a reason there are professionals out there!

We just finished a bathroom renovation, and that alone was plenty for me...

I just mean selecting doors, cabinets, and hardware for the house. We are not all fancy pants so we won't go all crazy with the design of the actual interior.

Are you an avid golfer or just happen to buy a lot next to the course ?

BTW, moved to Gallery section.

Me and the wife both golf so we wanted to be on a course and on some area larger than box homes. This is just short of an acre with the back going to the 14th fairway.

Thanks for the move.

Don't stalk but check on them everyday; you'll be surprised what you find out. Also if you make friends with the workers and subs they'll do things a little better for you.

That's still a lot...throw in flooring, tile, etc, and it's a good way to go crazy.

Yea, wish I was that big of a baller to afford that, but the wife has really good taste and she enjoys it.. And I also don't care much, I would live in a cardboard box if it had a nice garage.

I am actually on the otherside of the world till mid August, so I can't do much of anything. My wife just makes appointments with the GC to meet him on site.

Looks like you are off to a good start. I know it is too late to comment but you are going to wish the garage was 28 feet instead of 25.

Na, I don't own anything full size. My biggest vehicle is a Dodge Dakota and a Tacoma. Only 18 feet long. Its still much bigger by 5 feet than anything I have ever had.

This is what I plan on giving the builder for an outlet/light layout. I will provide the lights but have not bought those yet. Having always worked with two single bulbs in the garage this will feel like I am working in a lab. I plan on them being 4 foot LED's. Now the back I want to put a welder, and the back right corner I want my air compressor. I don't think I need much else that would require a 220V outlet. Do I need to specify amp rating for those outlets?

I plan on having the two areas on different switches and the single light also on a different switch. For a total of three.

The left side of the garage will be the wife's parking, and the right side will be my side for working on the drag truck.

Thoughts?

Thanks, ours is being built by a custom home builder, no big name. 33 more days can I get to see it in person.

Do you have a thread for yours?

Gotcha, I kind of wish we went that route but we were just getting impatient with this little temporary apartment. This was a first home build (first single family for that matter) and they were very opposed to change requests.

Here is my thread, still a work in progress =>
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=331551

Yea, if you are using a bigger company in a developing community they tend not to change the design, but will work with you with the color choices, brick, and all the simple stuff. We eneded up adding 5 feet to the left wall and over 13 feet to the garage area. That is aside from moving stairs and other major moves. But we are paying for it. haha.

Oh, just looked at your thread, I have been following it. That is a nice place, and your garage space will be awesome.

We have some roof. I am not a big fan of the space in the middle of the doors. I wish that space would have gone more to the edges for my boxes and tables, but that is my fault for not seeing the final plans. I am sure I can live with it.

This is looking good. It is a lot of fun as well as stress in building a new house. We are moving into ours next weekend although it is finished and we have the keys today. There is still some stuff we want to finish. Try not to loose your cooling picking out the finishing's. that was the hardest part for us.

Thanks, lucky for us this has been about a year of choices for my wife, I think she has an idea for every detail at this point, except for paint colors. haha

It may not be too late to change the garage openings, talk to the contractor about it..
Money spent now won't feel bad compared every time you look at the wasted space.
Move the air compressor outside, closed in storage.
