I am at the point where I have decided to go with a metal ceiling but my main concern is the color. I have decided on white to improve the lighting but I am not sure which white to pick. My local choices are 30 gauge bright white indoor ceiling panel or polar white 29 gauge exterior siding which is more of a softer white and slightly grayish. Both are made by American Building components. Initially I was set on the bright white to maximize the light but I am concerned that the bright white may have too much glare. This is a hobby garage and not a body shop or paint booth. I would really like to hear from those of you who have metal ceilings to get your thoughts on your color choices and if you would pick a different color if you could do it over again. I've got white R-panel on my ceiling....eight foot ceilings with fluorescent lighting. I don't think the bright white would be a problem.....you prolly won't be looking at the ceiling much, and as you get older, you will need more light.
Thanks for the quick response. I like to do a lot of work in the garage but I also like to just unwind out there sometimes. The glare it my biggest concern. Great site by the way. I have been browsing it for years but just registered. All comments or suggestions welcomed.

I don't see a pic, John. But mine is R-panel 26 gauge from Muellers. I would suppose it's exterior grade...20 or 30 yr paint guarantee. With about 6-8 inches of loose cellulose insulation on top, between the celing and the roof.

Honestly, I couldn't imagine getting any glare off of a ceiling. While I may be wrong, I'd probably just go with the cheaper guage and put it up. Save the money to use elsewhere.
We used the bright white panels in our workshop to get the maximum light reflectivity.
Glare has not been a problem and we have 8- 100 watt incandescent bulbs in porcelan
fixtures in a 20 x 30 shop. We used the bright white panels floor to ceiling on the walls
as well, 10' ceiling height, no glare. Just our experiences.

Are you staring at the ceiling a lot or something? I don't think glare is an issue. We used a high gloss white paint in my friends shop and it just helps reflect light down.
