Thought I'd repost here...

This is a re-design from the first post.

EDIT:
Forgot to mention that there is only power to this building. It will be too expensive to route water and sewage.

Additionally there will be a thru-wall A/C unit to cool the bonus room and a separate one for the garage plus a swamp cooler. The bonus room would only really be used on the weekends if at all. Thus reducing the sq. footage needing to be cooled/heated.

Original Plans were to have a 24x24 2-car garage with a lift. However due to the existing house, and lot coverage making it impossible to have 2 OH garage doors, we've adapted the building to be a single car garage with bonus room.

Intent of the room is to make it a guest room for family and friends, as well as a theatre/play room, etc.. Layout is not set in stone yet, just playing with ideas for now. I'm not sure if I want to have a door between the garage and bonus room. The smaller room in the rear is for landscaping tool storage and a 60 gallon air compressor with a switch located in the garage.

The garage will have 24 feet of tool storage/countertop with dedicated power every 4 feet. a 30A outlet just outside the OH garage door for a welder as well as one located on the back wall. The perimeter of the garage walls will have 20A dedicated receptacles(most likely alternating every other one) for various power tools.

Ceiling heights are 12 feet in the garage to allow for a full size lift, preferrably 8-9K lbs. and 10 feet for the multi-purpose room. Not shown is ceiling mounted recepts in the garage for OH garage door, and various needs. Plus the OH garage door is only shown at 8 feet wide as that was the only model I had to use. It will be a minimum of 10 feet when installed.

Let me know what you guys think, give me some feedback!

Electrical Plans: garage is your typical receptacle layout. 220V for air compressor and welder. The rest are alternating dedicated circuits. Bonus room is a little overkill. Two recepts for either a flat panel TV or retractable screen located in the ceiling. Power at counter top height

Dimensions:

Lighting: switching is still up in the air for now.

Sections: Bonus Room/Garage

Section: Garage tool/storage wall

That is a different approach. I for one like to have access from inside instead of having to go outside to inter another section.
The other reason is you will have to have cooling or heating for separate areas. They will need them anyways but door ways can allow for alot of cooling / heat transfer.
That is alot of bench. I like that.
If you can, I would go 14' ceilings. This will allow for a taller door and a future mezzanine for storage.

If you could possibly go to 32' adding the 2' to the garage side that would give you very close to a 2 car garage, and very efficient lumber usage.

If you move that wall on the back storage room forward it would give you room to put in a full bath back there, which would make the guest room more useable. It would also make the storage room more usable, allowing you to put shelves on 2 or 3 walls.

Also when you place the lift be sure you have enough room to remove a full size truck axle shaft.

This is one I go back and forth on. It would be nice to just have a door to go back and forth, plus when it gets hot here it would be nice to not have to go outside.

The other reason is you will have to have cooling or heating for separate areas. They will need them anyways but door ways can allow for alot of cooling / heat transfer.

The bonus room will not be used much except for on weekends. The plan is to install two separate A/C units, one for the bonus, the other for the garage. The bonus room would just get a thru-wall unit, and the garage would get a larger thru-wall unit plus most likely a swamp cooler. This way I'm not cooling such a large sq. footage.

You can never have too much bench space! Which is another reason I go back and forth on the door as it would take away bench space. Building height is maxed at 15 feet to the peak, so the highest I could go interior would probably be 13 feet.

The problem with the lot layout is the edge of the house and the patio doesn't allow for a second garage door. I wouldn't be able to make the turn into the second door. However placement of the lift further into the garage would allow me some room to maneuver around the posts.

I forgot to add, updated now, that there will not be water or sewage. It too cost prohibitive.

Also when you place the lift be sure you have enough room to remove a full size truck axle shaft.

hadn't thought of that, good point!
