So I have been reading up on garage flooring ideas as we just today closed on our new house. The new house has a huge garage which was my only criteria for the new place we found. I am leaving a detached 500 Sq. Ft. garage that also had a second floor which was only used for storage. The new garage is 37' deep by 29' wide with a 33' by 17' second floor that needs to be sheet rocked but is finished other than that. The wife has already claimed some of the upper floor space for her jewelry making shop. That was a little disconcerting but in the interest of harmony I did not argue. I have been looking at what I can do to cover the garage floor and I really like the Racedeck product. So I went to the website and put together a design I liked and submitted it for a quote.

Well I received a very nice reply from Jennifer today and talk about sticker Shock.......... :eyecrazy:

Man I was not prepared for several thousand dollars to install the Racedeck floor covering. The quote was for 1078 12" tiles to cover the first floor concrete. So being that I have many other more important and pressing things that need to be done immediately the garage floor will just have to stay as plain old concrete for the foreseeable future. Kind of disappointing but I will survive and maybe someday in the distant future I can afford my dream garage floor. I an envious of those of you who have been able to install a Racedeck floor it looks awesome and seems to be the perfect solution.

Here is a crappy real estate picture of the front of the house. I will post some better pics later this week once we get into the house.

Here is the back of the garage I really like the back garage door gives you access to the back yard through the garage.

I love it when the shop/garage is bigger than the house it goes with.

Congrats, new homes and shops are always so much fun.

You'll love the garage door on the back - we had one at our second place with a parking pad too. I could have the garage door open for ventilation and to let the dog wander - all without drivers-by scoping out my stuff... And we had a fenced yard with no back alley.

This is when I looked at it to buy...

did you make sure to ask for the GJ discount ? it may not help much with sticker shock but every little bit helps. I would still go for it if there was any way you could afford it, its worth it.

Yes I believe Jennifer did provide me with the GJ discount but it was still north of 3K to do.

For about $1.50 a square foot you can self install Porcelain tile and never have to mess with it again. Find it on sale and do it yourself. I actually found it kind of fun.

Jim

PS Great house, I am looking forward to the photos of the inside.

I too have a garage door on both sides of my garage too and it's the greatest accident I ever made. I built it that way so I could pull boats straight through into the garage but it's really nice for a cross breeze - particularly if you are working on something with foul odor.

With regards to the flooring...you could spend more! When you consider costs and installation time/costs of other types of flooring (epoxy/ceramic-porcelain tile/polishing/etc), Racedeck is a pretty cost effective option.

That's what I say. No special skill or training needed. Just confidence in laying tile. Floor that you will love, forever.
