There is always something interesting to see or purchase. I picked up a couple of 5" C clamps. Here are a couple of items he had that stood out. An older Craftsman ratchet and Black and Decker drill. Looked neat; very heavy for "light duty".

There was also this large vise (appx. 45-55 lbs?) for $65.00. I did not see any maker's marks.

That place is my #2 "go to" place to search for tools (#1 is in Plaistow, Waltham is #3, when I can get to them). That's where I picked up my 1hp block grinder. It's a fun place when the doors first open on Wednesday. Ever see kids scrambling for candy after a piñata breaks ? That's how the adults act when the Tool Shed opens for the week .

Ever get a seed planted in your head that you just can't shake?:lol_hitti

Roughly 60 - 70 lbs (heavier than I first thought) with no makers marks. It is missing the swivel base, but still followed me home.

Unusual looking vise . . . . What brand is it ??

Post up a bunch of pics in the Vise thread.

What is the place in Plaistow, Jake?

125 TOOLS
111 Plaistow Rd (rt125)
Plaistow, NH

The prices are higher than either of the Tool Shed's (much higher), but the inventory is huge in comparison. They're open more hours.

Another place is in Derry, NH, off the rt28 bypass.

Tool Liquidation Ctr
20 S Main St
Derry, NH

I've only gone there twice. They have a big selection of newer chinese stuff as well as used tools. In the back they have a large inventory of bigger machines. The prices are high. IMHO (I'm cheap)

I was hoping to make time this summer to go up to the Liberty Tool Barn in Maine, but it didn't happen. :dunno: I haven't been there in years.

Thanks! I will be driving up to Manchester this Sunday. I may have to take a detour or two ;)

Has anyone been to Lynnway Tools in Lynn ?
I saw them listed in a search, but I stay away from cities if I can help it. Especially cities that start with an "L". Bad JuJu.

I have not been, but the only thing I have heard of concerning the city of Lynn since moving to Mass was the rhyme.

I tried to go last saturday, got lost in the maze, and when I finally found it - it was closed with no note on the door. I don't plan on making that trip again anytime soon. I'll spend my money somewhere else for now. Should have gone to Worcester.

Ok, I lied. I went to check out Lynnway Tools today.
The shop is small (smaller than the Tool Shed in Watham), and shares space with the die-cast cars he sells. If you're looking for Snap-On, Mac, Cornwell, etc., He's got them set up in the display cases. If your looking for old rusty vintage tools, no such luck. I did see a Proto ratchet in the mix as well. He does a nice job of cleaning his tools before he puts them out, but most of his stock isn't too old - late 80's and up (mostly). Unlike the Tool Shed locations, he doesn't load up on imported junk, so you can expect to find quality tools. As far as prices go, I'm not familiar with truck brand prices, but they seemed to be in the affordable range. He did fine pricing the Craftsman tools I picked up, so I felt good handing over my money.

The owner's name is Dave. We spent a little time rubber-jawing about tools and stuff, he seems like a nice guy who wants to get the right tools into the right hands. Since most of his regular customers prefer truck brands, that's what he concentrates on. He also had some power and air tools in stock as well. Some in their original boxes. He's still working out how to best display the stock he has, so there are a few buckets to paw through. But that's ok, that's the fun part.

Lynn can be difficult for me to get in and out of, so I may not drop in very often. But I may check it out every now and then, if I can make the time.

Here's a link to his site :

And here's what I picked up today. I spent $30. :

Craftsman 1 1/8" combo wrench - -V^-
Craftsman 8" #4 phillips screwdriver - WF
Craftsman 8" #2 phillips screwdriver - WF
Snap-On T27 Torx driver
Craftsman T25 Torx driver - WF
Craftsman T20 Torx driver - WF
Craftsman 7/16" 1/2dr socket - =V=
10" square fine tooth file
Vise-Grip (Dewitt) #6LN needle nose pliers

Dragging up a dead thread to update.
Here's a repost from the garage sale thread that I just left.

I just found out that one of my go-to places for used tools will be closing in two weeks.

125 Tools in Plaistow NH will be closing it's doors soon. Anything left unsold will be going to the auction house. The owner decided that with fewer tool users out there, competition from the box stores with cheap chinese tools, and a new TSC store that opened down the street last year, he just wasn't doing enough sales to stay open.

His prices were a bit high for used retail, but he always had a wide variety of used name brands on hand, and avoided buying cheap imports when he could.

I've bought a lot of good tools from him over the last 25yrs. I don't get over there very often anymore, but I still like to wander the isles when I can.
He'll be missed. [sniff]

Jake

Thanks for resurrecting this thread. I missed it first time around. Probably before I started frequenting GJ. I was born and raised in the City of Sin (about two miles from Lynnway Tools location). I tried clicking the link to Dave's site, but I received a '404 Not Found error'. Maybe he's gone too.

Every now and then he puts an ad on CL. The last one was about 2 weeks ago.

I'm pretty sure he was still there in August, but I haven't been down that way since. The Flea Market is still down the street though.

What I miss most about that area is Harbor Scrap, back when you could just walk in and nose around for parts. Now it's more of a reclamation center, tighter than Fort Knox, and they never have what I need when I call. But all scrap yards that survived around here seem to be like that now.

I have been to the Tool Shed as well. I also go to East Coast Tools in Pawtucket RI and I go to the Tool Consignment Store in Seekonk.

I think East Coast Tools in the best in the area for used tools. They have lots of specialty stuff as well as sets. They are over flowing with regular contractor type stuff too.

Tool Shed is moving to a new location in Worcester. East Coast Tools, I look at their website every now and them. Their prices are a little on the high side IMO.

Thanks for the heads up. I haven't been to the website for a while, it's too dangerous for my wallet.

Great [huphf] I finally got to the point where I didn't need to print out directions to get there and back. Now I'm going to get lost all over again. :willy_nil

The new address is 1073 Main St, Worcester, MA. It used to be a Subway. I wonder how long it'll smell like a Subway lol. It's right down the street from Harbor Freight.
