Streamlight Warranty?

Have you guys tried to warranty anything from Streamlight? I've got a Streamlight Stylus that I have to shake every so often to get it to come back on. I've tried stretching the spring out in the tail cap; which works for a little while; then goes back to shutting off again. I use Rayovac batteries.

Never used Streamlights warranty, but I have to mention your choice of battery. I’m my opinion as a flashlight addict, never use cheap batteries. They don’t give you as good performance, burn out quicker, and most importantly are much more likely to leak and destroy your flashlight. Duracell is good, if you want something better try the ultimate lithium. My preference is always rechargeables as they perform well and save you tons of money over the years. I’ve had the same AA and AAA rechargeables and am at about 350 charged or so on the AA’s and 200 on the AAA’s and they hold a charge just as well as they always have. Haven’t bought a pack of AA’s or AAA’s in years!

Not trying to sound like a **** about your battery choices, it’s just my personal preference from years and years of carrying and using many different flashlights daily.

Oh I forgot to mention. When there is no battery in the light and you shake it does it make a rattling sound? I have had this problem on multiple lights and it is almost always fixed by opening up the flashlight and tightening the “board”. In the head of the light where the positive end of the battery makes contact there should be what looks like a computer chip or board. It should have two small holes on the outer rim. Use a pair of pointed tweezers and tighten it gently if it is loose. On some lights it may be counterclockwise to tighten but it could also be clockwise so take that into account. Also clean all contact points with rubbing alcohol. If neither of these work and you have installed better batteries then it’s time to try out their warranty I would say.

I’ve had more Duracell leakers thsn any other type — probably 10X the rate, for what it’s worth.

My Streamlight flexible shaft light uses AAAA batteries and often fails to work. Putting some Deox-It contact cleaner on the spring seems to have helped considerably. YMMV, of course.

Gee . . . I thought Rayovac was one of the top battery makers. I thought they were the chief competitor to Duracell. Made in USA too. :dunno:

I have never had good luck with Rayovac, but if it works for you and your not having problems with performance than more power to you.

Well that *****. Certain Duracell’s are covered under their leak protection warranty and they will replace the product their battery leaked in if you send it in for investigation.

I had a charger for a Streamlight Stinger that quit. Called them and They had me send it in and within a couple weeks I had a new charger. They were cool and really easy to deal with.

I'm with you. I had a jumbo pack of Costco/Duracell AA's and I think every one of them leaked in use or before they could be used. I have read bad stuff about
Duracell before.Based on my experience, cost has not been the detirmining factor. I get the store brand orange alkalines from HF when they are on sale. Not to be confused with their yellow carbon zinc batteries. The ' buy 3 and get 4th free' packs of Pannasonic AA and AAA at Dollar Tree have been good , too. I have little experience with Ray o vac but would use them or energizer. I have also read that alkaline batteries as a whole are more prone to leak than other technologies. We all base our preferences on our own limited experiences.

The last time I bought batteries, I bought Rayovac. I specifically looked to be sure and discovered Rayovac is made in the USA, Duracell and Energizer are made in China. I've never had trouble with Rayovac and will continue to buy them as long as they are made in the USA. I dont buy things based on old reputations from decades ago. Duracell aint what it used to be... Rayovac deserves to be rewarded (by buying their products) for keeping production in the USA, and keeping their prices in-line with imported Chinese ****.

In my experience, that is usually caused by corrosion. Clean the electrical contacts with some contact cleaner, and usually it will fix it.

Also Duracell batteries are about the worst in my experience. They always leak on me.

Streamlight has a very good warranty. I have used their products for years and have sent several of their items back for repairs with no issues. As for batteries, I really don't know if one is better then the other when it comes to leaking. I try to use Lithium batteries in my small lights if I can. I know they cost more, but never had one of them leak.

I and many guys on our fire department have sent them in. As far as I know they have always sent us replacements.

We have as well. Personal ones and the dept's lights.

Go to their website and you basically create and account and do the warranty paperwork if I remember correctly. Then you send it in.

I have had the opposite. I don't remember a Duracell leaking in my lights. I have multiples, including Stylus you have. But, I did have the Costco brand of AA darn near destroy several of my lights, including a Streamlight. Costco took it up the corporate level, gave me money for the damaged lights, and I have ran nothing but Duracell ever since. The FD that I work for buys them by the hundreds, heck, we even got a memo from a large manufacture of SCBAs recommending that we do not use Costco brand batteries. Duracell's again have been fine. So, send your light to Streamlight, and good luck with your batteries, I can only give you my experience.

Nice Username

Glad I saw this post. Have two of my three stylus ones quite working, I thought corrosion at first, but doesn't seem to be the issue.

I was given to understand that Costco batteries are Duracell. I am less concerned about getting Costco to make good for the damage than avoiding bad cells in the first place. The best warranty is the one you never have to use.

The Sams Club batteries are made in the USA.... I've had no problems with them. There is no reason to buy Chinese batteries when decent USA batteries can be had for the same price, or even less. All you have to do is read the package....

I tried to almost everyone I spoke to at Costco, from the first person at the customer service counter, to the store manager, then regional. Not a hint of who makes their batteries. I'm sure with some work, one could figure it out, but it has been over three years since I had swapped to all Duracell and no Costco, and zero issues.

I've got a Polytac that isnt working, I think it's the switch. May have to send it in. Pretty happy with the Streamlight stuff I've got otherwise.

On batteries,

I've had Duracell Rayovac & Energizer all leak. Of the three, Energizer was the best, Duracell the worst. Rayovac's in between. My Dad had bought a 12pk of Duracell AAA's and they sat on a shelf for a few months and leaked out.

I put Energizer lithium batteries in anything I want to be able to use at anytime without worrying about leaking batteries ruining it in the meantime. If I have a light constantly in use, I use Rayovac or Energizer (depends on whats on sale).

IME, Rayovac seems to have the least amount of hoops to jump though as far as leaking battery warranty. Rechargeable batteries by the big three have not worked out well enough for me to bother with them, though Panasonic Enloops are apparently the some of the best.

Yep, exact same here. One of the better things I ever did was get our house to go fully rechargeable. Haven't bought a throw-away battery in years other than 9V. I used to spend upwards of $15 a month just on batteries in our house - and still all too often had to drop whatever I'm doing and run to the store to get more when we ran out and needed them. I run eneloop pros in my Streamlight ProTac 2AAAs at work. I use my flashlight dozens at least and many times hundreds of times a day at work. The batteries last a week or two and I always keep 2-4 fully charged backups in my locker.

I've tried many 2AAA penlights, but always come back to the Streamlight ProTac. I've wore out a few of them and never even thought to try to warranty one or even looked into what their warranty is. I've always gotten more than a year on one before I killed it and by then the hell I put them through there's almost no paint left on it. The one I'm using at work these days you can't tell at all it used to be black. It now sports a custom bare metal scrape&scratch finish, but still works like new. Only thing I'm not too fond of about it is the clip gets lost in a matter of days/weeks every time. I don't need it or even use it so no biggie but I wish it wasn't so easy to pop on/off. It just looks better with the clip and it doesn't roll on me too far like it does without it when I have to set it down.

Being in the parts business, I have sold a ton of the Stylus Pros. I have also warrantied quite a few, and I think the button was the issue on every one

I had a Siege AA lantern that failed. As I recall I had to fill out a form online and sent it in. Cost me about $7 shipping priority mail but got a brand new one fairly quickly. I heard from somebody else that if you are near their headquarters in PA (I am) that you can also drop it off to them for repair.

I have warrantied a pen light. They sent me a replacement tail cap in the mail within a few days.
It fixed my issues and I have to say I use my light daily and it has held up very well.

As the tech for our Survivair SCBAs, I have used Energizers a few times but had more issues with the PASS devices not working properly until the battery is replaced. Now, all I use are Duracells and we have had no corrosion issues.

If you don't know what a PASS Device is, follow the Youtube link....and make sure you turn up your speakers.

They have sent me parts for head lamps and have fixed several liteboxes fro the company. Check with their site, as there maybe a dealer that services as well. For me it's batteries plus.

Costco/Kirkland batteries are nothing more than a rebadged Duracell, so avoiding one for the other is rather pointless.
