I have that gearwrench stubby, I like it, have used it quite a bit. It's impossible to beat at the price, but it is solid, not a cheap tool.

I thought that too, until I realised I "needed" a flex head stubby and a roto head....
and obviously a second standard ratchet if I needed to access a nut and bolt at the
same time and there was a real danger of the car blowing up if I didn't use the same
drive size...

Oh...and a third standard ratchet to keep in the car toolbox.... errrrmmm... and a forth
to keep in the house toolbox... :D

If you think four standard size ratchets is bad check out the "show me your ratchets" thread. OK... I'm off....

If the objective of a stubby is to get in tight spaces, how well do the 3/8 drive ratchets on a 1/4 frame work? Wright, for example has one.

I have a Cornwell stubby ratchet, the JRS-30.I use it a lot when tightening spark plugs down in tight spots.Works in the tight spots getting fastners and oil pressure sending units.

I have the gearwrench and the Sk. I also have the Sk with the 3/8 guts he the 1/4 body and the Sk stubby flex. I like my Sk ratchets over the gearwrench but that is just personal preference.

I have the 80 tooth stubby flex head its nice and tight so the head only flexes if I want it to. There are times when your in a tight space and even though a big ratchet will fit the stubby will get the job done much faster.

Rear spark plugs on vans. Starters you have to get of from the top. Random bolts in tight places. Think any time you could get a ratchet to only move a tiny bit to tighten a nut. Switch to the stubby and now you have twice the movement.

I was planning to get the gearwrench 60 tooth flex stubby. is it worth it to get the 120xp instead? Am I gonna lose torque?

Maybe... but not an issue for stubby ratchet in my opinion as you usually are not putting major torque with that short handle. The 120xp heads are fatter (a small amount) than the 60/84T models. The bevel on the 120xp sort of hides this to the eye. The 120xp is also heavier, which is worth considering.

I have the 60T stubby - Love it! I have 120xp ratchets, but the 84T is probably a good compromise. Get the cripe deal and find an 84T kit!

I prefer a 3/8" ratchet in a 1/4" body, like the fixed or flex from Wright. Snap-On makes one too, and I imagine there are others. You're not going to apply much torque with a 2" long handle anyway, so why opt for the bulk of a standard 3/8" head?

This is basically a wrist twisting ratchet due to its shorter length so, torque loss really isn't a factor.

I have both the 60 tooth and 120xp stubbies. I find the 120xp to be heavier so, I'd stick to the 60 tooth model but, that's just me.
