Left hand thread maybe? Also try using a dermal tool with a cut off disk and try making cuts on each side of the nut. Good luck

I have never seen one with right handed threads so that's out...

There are flats in the shaft under the disc to lock the shaft on most models, then a spanner that hooks into the holes.

If nothing else, take a bfh to the disc and shatter it which should release the tension on the locking nut..

the disk on it is a very worn diamond blade

I'm in the same boat: stuck nut on a diamond disc. Spanner wrench isn't built to put 'unsticking force' on the nut. Spindle lock isn't very secure, either. In the future, I'm going to make sure I grease the nut/threads on these well. Haven't gotten mine apart yet.

Use a hammer and strike the top of the nut a few times hard, make sure you strike the nut square with the hammer it will shock the spindle nut enough to help release it.
Once you do that clamp the nut in a vise make sure it is tight it wont hurt the nut than lock the grinder spindle lock so it wont spin and use the grinder body itself to loosen the nut.
Been there done that many times it works.

Don't use the spindle lock....it's only a good way to break it. Use the flat behind the disk. I forget the size of the wrench it takes.

Got back to my grinder. Not even a sheet metal wrench would fit between the guard screws & the 'base washer' behind the disc.
Ended up clamping the diamond disc in a vise and striking one of the holes in the lock nut with a chisel. I had soaked it down with penetrant a few times and hammer rapped it, and the chisel broke 'er loose. Back to work.
