Stupid question..Can you leave your compressor on with sub zero temps outside?

I didnt mention that, but yes I upgrade my drain valves to 3/8 ball valves.
One on my Eagle compressors nearly 20yrs old, its the first thing I upgraded. Its original drain sucked (like most).
So far the only bleed off I had is quick connects or leaving an air tool/chuck connected to my line. We have many sub zero days, actually sub zero weeks. I just drain it in late fall. But this fall our weather stayed so nice I used it later than ever, just last week I drained it.
Our weather is just strange now, we had mostly 80/90 deg days last couple months still, Nov/Dec man? Goes down to Zero 2-3 days, its 45 again today be 60 tomorrow...Weird!
Usually in Sept/Oct its drained & used very little if any till spring again. Always powered up & ready if needed like all my compressors have been for 45yrs. No issues.

I have a new compressor since this thread started so long ago - the one before was a 20 gal 120V horizontal Campbell Hausfeld, I now have an 80 gallon 220V upright with an automatic drain, but I still shut it off when I'm done with it. My garage doesn't get below freezing, in fact the coldest I've ever seen it out there is 39* so I'm not worried about it freezing. This new compressor has synthetic oil and it starts easily no matter how cold it's been or how long it's been shut down.
