Sub panel wiring question

I am looking to run 'SER' across basement to exit point through foundation, then into junction box and splice to 'MHF' in conduit and run underground to a garage where it will come back up and transition through the wall and directly into the back of the panel. The splice at the house junction box would be made using polaris connectors.

Question, is it legal to splice 2-2-2-4 SER to 2-2-4-6 MHF? Those are the sizes I can find locally without ordering online.

What are your loads? Number of workers?

Youre probably fine with the reduced neutral...

Have you considered running MHF the entire way? Would need to be in conduit in the buildings but end to end is best.

I agree, nothing as good as continious. The larger conductors are really good for long runs. Compensation for Vdrop

The SER run will be about 40-50ft with bends, the MHF will be a 100ft run with drop underground and rise into panel. Conduit in the house will be more of a headache than it would be worth I think but not 100% opposed to the challenge.

I was going to put it on a 70amp breaker in the main panel from the online calculator I used.

Loads will be,
15a 120v led lights
15a 120v receptacles
15a 120v receptacles
30a 240v compressor
50a 240v welder

Yes, you can splice 2-2-2-4 to 2-2-4-6 with no nec issue.

140’ should be fine for 90a and those loads

Are the loads you listed actually circuit sizes? Make the receptacle circuits 20A.
