I recently moved into a new to me house with a detached shop and the subpanel for it is a less than ideal location, I’d like to make it better if possible. It is located in a door-less closet next to a large electric water heater. I understand that there is supposed to be a minimum clearance for working in front of the panel. I’m thinking I’ll remove the small walls that form the closet and then I’d like to remove the current water heater. I’m thinking of replacing it with a small electric on demand water heater. It will just supply a bathroom sink and a shop sink, both which get used infrequently. Is it ok to have a wall mounted water heater near the panel? Are these reasonable things to do? Thanks in advance.
