I talked to my SO dealer today about this thread. She said its no big deal where the tool came from, how old it is, how many owners it has had or how many you bring in all at once.

Maybe my Snap-On dealer is just cooler than most.... :dunno:

And that's the point I was trying to make with my Bean parallel. (not how much of it is now made offshore) Their warranty is a business model. Their reputation depends on 60 year old tools operating like new or it's replaced. If they want to justify the high costs of their tools, they want to ensure that every piece of snap-on equipment out there is a top performer - even if it was abused.

Here's another interesting point: How much of their warranty is exchange vs repair? If it was a tool I purchased new 3 years ago, i'd be OK with an exchange. If it was something I inherited from my grandfather, I damn sure would rather it be fixed. Even garage sale finds, I'd rather have things fixed than replaced. I'm a big opponent of the throw-away society and will spend a little more for things that would last. The only point in exchanging for new something you picked up at a yard sale would be to resell - something I have no time or energy to do.

It would appear each person is treated differently depending who you ask. Could it be the only reason it is "getting harder to warrant tools" is because your truck driver just plain dislikes you because of your simple minded opinions and personality? Maybe you argue about the prices week after week? Who knows. One thing is clear, my dealer shares the same opinion as this guys and a few others on the page, so apparently its not as big a deal as some of these guys are making it...
