Needs to eliminate the garage door, so it can be used in winter (not as an icerink).

That way, when swimming in his heated pool, and he hits his head and drowns, no one will find him for a while. (pro's and con's of indoor swimming pools)

We have had a house for sale around here, for sometime, with an indoor swimming pool. You have to find the right buyer, as is pools are either a yea, or nay thing.

seen an office with a pool in the basement and the chlorine rusted every piece of equipment in the building.
I would pass.

I agree about the chlorine, A buddy bought a 1970 El Camino SS fairly cheap a few years ago, because it was stored in a warehouse with Pool equipment and supplies.Every part was rusted, pitted and rotted due to the chlorine in the air alone.Had to do a ground up, that took him lots of time and money to complete.Pools are better outside, where you can enjoy the sun.It is pretty cool though!

It really isn't a garage anymore.

I've imagined a pool building, based on a garage package before. It would really make sense in a climate where an outdoor pool is really only usable for 4 months of the year.

Think of a 32x32 garage -type building with a 30x20-ish inground pool on one side, maybe whirlpool spa incorperated in the pool. Remaining area could have a changeroom/ shower and seating entertainment area.

It may not be a chlorine type pool. Salt water type pools are vastly cheaper to operate and you don't get the chlorine smell with them.

We have thought about the possibility of a indoor pool in the future. If I ever get to that point I have considered the use of Ozone and/or ultraviolet to keep it sanitized eliminating the use of chlorine all together. I haven't yet fully researched the indoor affects of the ozone (wouldn't think any worse then chlorine) but I would believe a small air make up unit in the area could reduce the effects.

I know of a house in D.C. that has a pool in the basement and a Picasso in the foyer above it. You can smell the clorine through out the home.

If the one above keeps a exterior door between the house and pool and little bit of negitive ventalation in the pool room he should be ok.

I wonder if he pulled permits to do that or if he dug it out one pocketful at a time and spread the dirt out in the rec. yard during his exercise time.

At first I thought the responses were kind of harsh. After reading the article, I'd have to say that "emotional man" is a fool.

edit:
Although I do like the walls, which appear to be venetian plaster....or maybe it's just faux paint.

My brothers inlaws have an olympic size one inside there house.

It was alot of fun swimming while watching the snow come down in the winter months.

But then again his inlaws have that kind of cash.

My son has a friend who has a 24' ABOVE ground pool in his garage. It was put there for his father who has a medical condition and the father uses it every day as the doc said water exercises would help. At night the younger guys/gals have the pool. They say its a chick magnet. They keep the water at around 94 degrees and water keeps garage warm in winter. Its been there a couple years and haven't heard about any negatives from chlorine.

Barely on-subject: I knew some people who rented a party HotTub one winter and set it up the garage. By the end of the weekend the drywall was falling off the ceiling and puffing out on the walls....forgot the exhaust fan part!

One word for him. *******. It is a known fact that houses are worth less without garages and less expensive houses are devalued by building a pool because people don't want to maintain it.

Thanks for your opinion. I'm not so sure that less expensive houses are devalued by pools , because some people don't mind maintaining them. As a matter of fact they might increase the value of the house. :spit:

float a 18 foot boat in it and roll the garage door open for some funny looks for passerby.

Damn shame to ruin a garage for a fatty bathtub.

A one car garage isn't even worth the effort to build a pool for I wouldn't build a pool shorter than 25 yards personally and in a couple of years that number will probably increase to 27.34 yards.

Someone said something about the garage door. This actually makes sense to keep because in the winter you sealed off and can swim and in the summer you can open it up and enjoy the weather. There is a community pool in Havre Montana that is the same way.

Personally though the only reason I use a pool is for working out and generally I cant stand being in a pool for any other reason so its much easier to go to the local pool.

This week in FL we have had a heat index of 105 to 115 degrees...

Stay with me here...

You take an innertube and inflate it to the point where your oil draining tub fits snugly...

Then you build the pool in your garage only 4' wide, and right down the center...

You can change your oil while on an inflatable raft...

I would pass.

Several of our motel accounts have the pool equipement in the fire sprinkler room. Until they changed over to the solid chlorine, we kept busy replacing rusted sprinkler jpies and fire alarm stuff. I miss the liqued chlorine.

how about install a lift
put the lift down and park the car in there
put the lift up and use the pool

I think its no different than the people that convert their garages into another room, then you still have no garage
