Thanks looks fantastic! I love the style and the integration with the architecture. So many nice flat surfaces.. makes an engineer smile.

It is amazing to see everything come together, and I do hope you have time to enjoy all of the great spaces. If you ever make it to the states my guest room is open for you.

Please do keep posting updates. It's fascinating seeing the differences in construction/electric/etc in different areas of the world. Some reflect different local availability of building materials, but others are really elegant solutions to common challenges. Our local contractors always prefer to just keep doing it the way they've always done it, so getting ideas from GJ is helpful when trying to push the limits a bit!

Also, the cars are great and definitely want to see how they progress.

Hey Nils

I just read this from start to finish over the last two days and not only have I got garage/house envy, this has hit me hard with nostalgia. I lived just outside Zurich from 2006-2010. For context I arrived when I was 14 and left when I was nearly 19.
The landscape, the architectural styles of your neighbors/village, the windows that open two ways, and the technical room all remind me of being 16 again. All that's missing is an 0.5 litre glass of Feldschlosschen
I'd also appreciate Choc Noir Farmer Bars from Migros

Anyway, that's a super cool garage and house setup you've got going. I was worried that the garage section would be really dark but you've proven me wrong. That looks like a great area to be able to work on cars.
All of that automation impresses me. I'd be slightly concerned about building in tech that will be outdated before the building is, but I'm sure you have a plan for that.

The only area I would really change is having the noisy kitchen utensils in a separate room. If people want to enjoy what I make, they can put up with the noise

Haha thanks a lot. Those are indeed good things

So thanks all others for the kind words.

First a little update in the electrical department. I updated the Audiosystem to the new Loxone unit which is much better integrated into the system, offers spotify connect and much more:
DSC_2265-Kopie.jpg

Regarding the cars - don't plan to update it here regulary. I already post it on several Forums and this one is more garage related than cars. If you want to follow me, check out on my blog www.JDMjunkies.ch where i post regulary on all stuff. there you'll also find the link to my facebook where my updates are shared too.

But here's a little update about the current state. The 240Z is at home and i'm preparing the body for future bodyshop work. I'm currently discussing with a local blasting company to have it completely dry-ice blasted and primered for easier bodywork:
DSC_2252-Kopie.jpg

The mazda is nice as ever and i recently had a little photoshoot around my village (All pictures on my blog):
DSC_2125_mod-Kopie.jpg

And with my EK9 i had a brilliant (covid-related) vacation in switzerland over some amazing mountain passes and which brought me to nice places. See the full 4-part story on my blog too... here's a shot from the famous Furkapass with a view towards the grimsel pass far in the back:
DSC_1371-rotated.jpg

Here's a video of me driving up the grimsel a few months ago. Turn up the volume and enjoy (wait for it). :rocker:

Impressive, to say the least. A beautiful home, and fine craftsmanship throughout. Super impressed with all the technology.

Also, less technical, but still cool (warm, actually)... is that an electric powered towel warmer in the master bath? We need to getone of those. My wife is from Norway, and she wanted a towel warmer when we built this place (as well as heated floors).
Keep the pics coming. We really enjoy them all.

Thank's for the nice words :)

It's not electrical, but connected to the floor heating system, which has a temperature of around 35° and is just enough for the towel heater.
Very common here.

You can have them both water-heated (connected to the central heating system, as ours), Electrically heated or both.

We made an Power outlet just below, in case we want to add an electrical heater cartridge upgrade (it's just like a plugin-module), but so far it works great with only the water-heating.

I've integrated the valve (which is in the heating distribution / valve cabinet inside the wall) in the smarthome system, so slightly before and ca 1 hour after our usual showering times, the valve fully opens to pre-heat / dry the towel, otherwise it's off. During summer (when the floor heating is off anyway) the heater is off too, because not required. Works perfect so far :)

If you have combined water / electrical heating you have to make sure to not accidently heat the water in the central floor heating system circuit with the electrical cartridge, so you have to close the valve while heating. In general electrical heating is much more expensive than using water for it, that's the reason we went for it.

But with pure electrical heating you can have much higher temperatures, although also higher heating costs. But then again if you don't have a heating outlet near where you want to put the towel dryer, then electrical heating is the only option :)

Thanks for excellent explanation of the system. Here, since we have forced air heating system, a towel warmer would most certainly be electric, but as you say, would be set to start for the time slot that she would most likely use the shower. And yes, same here; electric heating is the most expensive.

Little update in the garage Area (big updates on the car project coming soon too):

1) Got my honda a little genuine Advan decoration from Japan. A nice Nobori flag which hangs on the wall now...
DSC_2309-Kopie.jpg

2) Spent some time finding a cheap Microfiche reader, just for fun's sake to read my old datsun microfiches. it was from a lady nearby who has an INCREDIBLE classic toyota collection, with about 12 cars any anything toyota you can imagine! will definitely go back there with the camera.
DSC_2413-Kopie.jpg

3) Found this old datsun switzerland fold-out dealer flyer from 1970 or so:
DSC_2512-Kopie.jpg

Which makes a great poster to hang on the wall:
DSC_2517-Kopie.jpg

4) And yesterday i picked up this vintage genuine swiss datsun dealership sign which is very rare and nice.
DSC_2526-Kopie.jpg

Surprisingly it's still working. and it is much bigger than expected, so now i have to find a nice place where to hang it, since it doesn't fit where i first had planned to put it :dunno:

Soooo, time for an Update...
I'm working on Garage version 1.5. Not because i really planned to do so, but because of lucky circumstances i got hands on some neat stuff which now needs installation and relocation of a few things.

Aside from the big neon sign which needs a bit of extra-wiring to have it actuated with the light-switch, my company was parting out again. I missed the big auction where they sold off the complete assembly line stuff for cheap, but at the end it was luck, because it probably saved me a lot of money :D but even better so, the parts they didn't sell during the auction was scrapped and i got all of this for 20.- bucks!!!

One double and one single heavy duty pallette-shelve (these things costs thousands, usually!) with a max. load of 6,4 tonnes each section!
DSC_2618-Kopie.jpg

A set of Lista drawers, which will go into my in-laws workshop in a few days:
DSC_3031-Kopie.jpg

And this fancy paper-towel boy with integrated trash bag mount:
DSC_3030-Kopie-rotated.jpg

This is how my parts-storage (aka our basement) looked before:
DSC_3025-Kopie.jpg

And this with the new shelve in. Everything is much better organized, needs less space and is easier accessible. and there's even space for more parts :willy_nil
DSC_3037-Kopie.jpg

Same in the other end, before:
DSC_3039-Kopie.jpg

and after... Note that it's still a huge mess i have a lot of small cleanup projects going on currently, so i emptied a lot of shelve to reorganize them, so everything is standing around
DSC_3049-Kopie.jpg

eagle-eyed readers might have also noticed that my Z-chassis got blasted and primered in order to get the chassis work finished:
Webp.net-gifmaker.gif

Oh on a totally random side-note, i got myself a fancy Borniak smoker out in the shed
DSC_2856-rotated.jpg

My first Rosemary-Honey Bacon smoked on Applewood is currently aging for another week before i can finally try the result of my new reciepe :)

As soon as you realize this, you will feel better.
The garage will never be done. Always room for improvement.
It is like a drug addiction, you need your next fix. :shocking:
Haha, yeah you might be right :dunno:

I'd say i'm a well organized guy and i like to have my stuff organized as well. I don't want to spend most of the time searching for parts when i need them.
Ever since i moved into the new home i wanted to have my parts nicely organized and accessible, but also protected from dust and dirt. I started to organize everything in those "Euro" Boxes (based on the size of a european standard pallette, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 or 1/16 size of it). But never found the time to finish it:
DSC_3073-Kopie.jpg

This week i finally spent some bucks and bought the missing boxes:
DSC_3081-Kopie.jpg

And here we go - much better, even if it wasn't that bad before. but now my inner OCD is much more happy  Also pulled out the good old label machine to label everything nicer compared to those old paper-pieces :)
DSC_3093-Kopie.jpg

I have two more projects for the garage left which i'm working on:
1) The second orange/blue shelves i put up need some floors, which should arrive this week

2) I decided to buy a large dehumidifier. Since the garage is shared with daily driven cars in switzerland. that means a lot of snow and moist comes into the garage everytime you get in from the rain / snow. Not what you want next to your beloved (and rust prone) classics. I currently run a small dehumidifier but it's simply to small for such a large space and it's also not made to work on temperatures below 15°c, which sometimes is what i've got in winter time...

Those damn hardwood floorboards for the shelves are pretty damn expensive. But then i got a hint that the company that supplies the wooden shipping crates for our company can do it much cheaper and that's what i did. so today picked up a set of heavy duty 3-layer hardwood boards for the shelves:
DSC_3092-Kopie.jpg

The new shelve setup but still with the shabby old pallettes used for storage:
DSC_3093-Kopie-1.jpg

New boards and everything in. Looks much cleaner and better. Also there is much more storage space with the thinner boards (vs pallettes) and no gaps between the pallettes, as before:
DSC_3096-Kopie-1.jpg

Starts to look business, if you ask me. Pretty happy with the outcome. Now only those drawers need to go to my in-laws and i need the dehumidifier. Then i have the feeling it's where i wanted my garage to be when i initially planned it :pimpflash

How is it that people can move so fast. In the time you build this house and arranged the garage and got the project started I did… nothing? Ok not nothing but I'm stuck in discussions with builders not knowing how to do a renovation of a 1969 house up to new standards (energy efficient).

Well rebuilding / restoring an old house vs building a new one from scratch are two different things i guess. you have to additionally deal with what already exists. remember it took us more than two or three years labour to prepare everything. but once everything is done, the house was built in one year.

Indeed, looking forward to put the windshield back in, in 7 years, haha :dunno:

Yes, in Europe the cars came without optional A/C, so many installed (a non factory) Sunroof. which is often an area prone to rust and the reason for warped sheetmetal on the roof. I have a new roofskin and will replace my roof for one without a sunroof.

This is beyond awesome...
Thanks a lot for the nice words, all of you :)
