Switch/plug combo wiring

I thought I understood how this should work. But apparently not. I can't get the switch to control the plug. I have the black coming into the switch terminal. The switch didn't control the plug. So I then removed the tab. Still the plug was hot regardless of the switch. The white is connected into the plug terminal.

What am I missing?

Last picture - you don't have anything connected to the left side of the switch? That should be your incoming line power.

Break off the fin, which you already did. This makes the switch and receptacle independent of each other.

If you're looking for this switch to control the attached outlet, you would need a black wire from the brass screw on top terminal of the switch to the black screw of the outlet.

I forgot to mention the black wire from the cord should be only connected to the black terminal at the switch.

Your incoming black needs to go to the LEFT side of the switch.

You've bypassed the switch,run the cord to brass screw top left.
Since you cut the jumper on right,you'll need to run a jumper wire from top right screw to bottom right screw to energize outlet when switch is turned on.
Your neutral wire will go bottom left to complete the circuit.

Why did you break the tab off? Shouldve left that on and just moved your incoming hot to the brass screw on the left side.

Also, those screw terminals are not rated for finely stranded wire thats found in cordage.

If you insist on using the cordage, i would twist the strands tight and then add some solder to them to make it one strand.

It depends on whether your view is from the back or the front and what direction the device is oriented (sw. on top or recp)

The side with the silver and brass screw is the line (input) side, just like in the picture on the box. Put the neutral (white) on the silver screw and the hot (black) on the brass colored screw, and the ground on the green screw. That would have taken care of it, but since the tab between the terminals on the other side has been removed, jump a short piece of black wire between those two screws. You should probably use some forked crimp on terminals since that device isn't made for stranded wire.

Theres only one brand of receptacles that are listed for fork terminals- hubbel.
