Best place to get it. Or any oil. At least around here. Even when parts stores have their "specials" Walmart is still cheaper. Let's face it, they have the highest gross buy of any company in America.

I usually wait for an auto parts store to rotate through the oil change special that I want. Between Autozone, Pep Boys, Advance Auto, and NAPA, I can usually get what I want (which usually means spending a few bucks extra so I don't get the crappiest filters on the planet).

NAPA has their full synthetic house brand oil on sale during July for $3.49 a quart. I like it because I can get 0W20.

That is what I get 15w50 for my Harley motor... Hell of a deal...I stock up when they go that price... Made by Ashland that make Valvoline so can't be too bad..

I read somewhere that if Walmart Department #10 (Automotive Department) was a separate Autoparts store, it would be the largest autoparts store in America. Larger than Autozone, Advance, Napa, etc. And Walmart doesn't really sell autoparts, except batteries, filters, etc. So them must sell a heck of a lot of oil, filters, and fluids. Hard for anyone to match that kind of buying power.

Every couple months, Amazon has cases of synthetic oil, at dirt cheap below cost prices. You can see those on slickdeals, and have to act fast, because they usually sell out within a few hours.

I don't understand why my local Walmart keeps swapping brands of oil filters. The usually have Fram (I won't touch them), but only occasionally have Motorcraft.

I actually use Fram's ultra synthetic or whatever, they just never include it in their deals. Autozone has started to let you upgrade your filters, which I like.

I'm using NAPA gold filters (rebranded WIX, specs exactly match those required by my 02 WRX and 99 4Runner) and NAPA synthetic. Bummed that I missed the July special, I just bought a frickin case. Oh well. Should stock up.

I recently switched to synthetic from conventional. I can't believe how I missed out on full-synthetic oil on my truck that I ran over 200K miles. I can't believe I listened to internet people about "leak bc synthetic is thinner"; that's a load of ****. I save money by switching to synthetic.

I've been buying 5qt jugs of oil and gear oil at wally world for years. One of the only reasons I step foot in that disgusting place. Used to be for the cheap meds till they kept ******* that up.

This might turn into a pennywise, pound foolish scenario once you factor in the price to rebuild your engine...


Jokes aside, I find the savings by running longer oil change intervals. I run 0w20 Mobil 1 Advanced whatever whatever formulation, and their Fram Ultra Synthetic filter, and I run them out to 15k miles. In the long run, that's cheaper than using junky oil and junky filters. I paid $33 for the combo last ($25 5 qt jug, $8 filter).

To put that into perspective, if you're doing 3k mi oil changes, that'd be like spending $6.60 per oil change. If you do 5k mi changes, $11/change. The regular Mobil1 non-advanced is good to ~10k miles, so if you actually follow their recommendation, it'd still be $22/change.

Don't do extended drain intervals on cheap oil though, that's just asking for sludge.

Does any one have any leads on Mobil 1 Quart size 0W-40 for about what Walmart has the 5 QT jug if you do the math it comes out to about $4.54 a quart? I picked up 4, 5QT jugs but would be nice to have some 1 QT ones since their 1 QT bottles of Mobil 1

Parts stores will dispose of it. Or save enough someone will either take it or pay you for your used oil for outside wood burners.

Yes, but here at least any place that sells oil needs to take used oil in return. My local Wal Mart seems like an odd place to bring used oil. I've never seen it done, but rarely go there.

NotGrownUp....Ashland Oil...that brings back memories, I grew-up just out side the city limits of Ashland, and did my first two CO-OP's with Ashland Oil..

A best friends dad ran their chemical test & development lab (a sub-company), Quaker State, Texaco, and several other top brands would send their oil & other products their for testing & development...

The day before this post started, I picked up four 5qt of Mobil Full Syn, for $22.**, I don't know if it's a new standard price or sale price....

My F150 takes 7.5qt....uh

I'm pretty sure only those with a tire and lube center will take it. You probably just bring it to that counter, and not the main customer service counter inside the store. Other options are auto parts stores, auto repair shops, or the local recycling facility.

Mobile 1 hasnt been a true group 4 base stock oil for years. If you want true synthetic oil with extend oil change intervals Amsoil is the way to, along with regular filter changes.

I have an HD as well... Actually have two of them. Pep boys runs their Mobil 1 20w-50 V-Twin on sale every now and then with a coupon. Last year, I tried to buy a case of it for $6.99 each quart. The teenaged cashier told me I couldn't use the coupon on that particular oil. I told her the coupon says "all Mobil 1 oil" she responded well not that one. I went home sent an email to their main email addy stating my recent experience and service. The very next day the store manager calls me and apologizes and invites me back to his store and offers me a case at $5.00 per quart. I ask for two cases, he said sure no problem. So I stocked up.

Also... With used oil, I take it down to my local Auto Zone. They have a recycle container and gladly take it.

Advance auto is still running a sale on valvoline vr1 20w50 racing oil for $4. It's a conventional oil but has a high zinc content for added wear protection but low detergent so no more then 3000miles. Not familair with the bike but its not recommended for wet clutches tho.

walmart is the only place I buy oil. Once I drained the oil out of my friends car at like 3am and he forgot to put the new oil in his trunk.. took my brothers car to the 24/7 walmart about 30 miles away. Saved!

You are correct, a UOA should be done beforehand and I should probably update my UOA from a year ago. I have a Honda J35, which is probably one of the easiest motors on oil since Honda designs motors with proper bearing sizes and clearances.

You all can nerd out about base stocks and such as much as you want, but there are many BITOG users taking the standard Mobil 1 to 10k and the M1EP to 15k, so I'm not in the minority here. If I could acquire Amsoil at better prices, I would consider them, but it's not really the case here (or I assume anywhere).

Wow! $3.49 a quart for full synthetic? What a price! Is that deal going on all month?

yesterday I had to run to o'reillys (it's close, it was getting late and I was tired) to pick up a quart of oil as somehow I misremembered the amount of oil my truck takes. THE CHEAPEST OIL on the shelf was o'reilly brand regular old dino oil at $3.99 a quart. I wasn't looking for full synthetic but if i remember correctly the cheapest I could have touched that for was about $6.
