T 5 lighting

Does anyone have experience with T 5 lighting for their garage? Our electrician is recommending 5 lights for a 24 x 24 garage where half is two story and half is one story ceiling height. I see that it will work down to -20 degrees which is good for initial turning on in winter before the heater warms things up.

No experience, but I did check the prices for a T5 light fixture. I think it was around $120 for an 8 foot fixture with 4 tubes included. From what I read, it looked like they were more efficient and had more light than the older fixtures.

Have 5-4 bulb 5000K in a 60x40 with 16' side walls and they are great. If you want a nice white light the 5000K bulbs are the only way to go.

I built my shop about 10 years ago and used the cheapest 8' lights I could get. Aside from the loud hum when it's cold, they are allright, but I've been looking at the T5. If you don't mind me askin, how much did yours cost?

Will cost about $100 with bulbs. Fixture is $69+ and bulbs (4100K) are $7+ each. The 4100K bulbs actually output more lumens than the 5000K and the bright white light is much better than I expected. I wanted 5000K bulbs but now realize I don't need them.

The electrician said $108 for the fixture. Good lighing is important to us and one thing we hate in the current garage with very old light (1963) is that they are dim in the cold and sometimes don't want to start. I thought about installing a Zero degree balast but never did.

I have 2 4 foot 4 bulb T 5 in my shop. They work great and the light is excellent.

From what I remember my Phillips 4 bulbs were right around $150 delivered with bulbs.

I got rather lucky and mine were new all free. Bulbs included...

I have one T5 HO in my 24x24 along with T5 and T12 and I can tell you it is the most impressive light in the shop. The difference in light between the T5 and T5 HO is amazing! Don't get too many HO's or you'll go blind!!!

Thanks, they are Cooper Lighting commercial grade fixture. We do interior demolition and I got these from and office building demo in Denver last year. This actual fixture has been discontinued by Cooper but they have current version that are very similar. Problem is, they are about $1500 per 8 foot fixture so not too many are going to show up in the home garage or man cave. I was very fortunate to be able to get these.

They start up easily at -5 celcius compared to the T12 F40 lamps from before.

I used half as many fixtures and it is way brighter than before.

How many of the 4-lamp fixtures did you use in your 30x40 space?
I am currently debating what to use in my 20x40 shop.
Was contemplating using four, 4-lamp fixtures. The ones shown to me by a local supplier were $150 each with bulbs.

I installed 6-4ft 2 bulb HO t5 fixtures in my 17x19 garage with 9 1/2 foot ceilings. The lighting is very good with the ultra white high gloss walls and ceiling. I am however going to add under cabinet lighting once I have all my cabinets up.

I just scored 4- 4 bulb t5HO fixtures for my 3 car garage with 10 foot ceilings. They are almost too bright with the white walls. I'm not changing them though

I installed 6 T5HO 5000K 6 bulb 4ft. fixtures in my 4 car garage. My wife always says it too bright. I say it's perfect. You'll love them

Once you price replacement ballasts at $100 a pop and bulbs at $4-5 apiece it makes T8's look pretty good. I'm talking T5HO's.

Some guys think cans are the greatest for a garage, I like 4 lamp T8 strips myself.
