I can't believe what you did with that!
It turned out amazing and super tidy as everything you get your hands on.
Love it!

Tapio, that's an amazing transformation. Your 30-year-old tractor looks like a well-cared for 3-month-old now. It must feel great to climb in and look straight ahead. I look forward to the exterior resurrection.

Thanks Bret!

Thanks Ronin22! I like how it turned out:thumbup:

Excellent work! I'm impressed! Of course, since we read your synopsis in 5 minutes, in our minds we think wow that was easy and only 5 minutes work . So how much time did this take to do?

Thanks Mr Gearhead! It took more than 5 minutes:lol: About 2 weeks, I worked at evenings and weekends. Biggest task was the cleaning work inside the cabin, the dust was everywhere and didn't come off with a shopvac. I had to use hot water, soap and elbow grease:lol:

That turned out awesome! Great work!

Thanks Nicholam77!

Thanks Mr Bob! It sure is a big difference to hop in. I adjusted the doors and fixed some broken door seals. No more diesel smoke in the cabin:lol: And did you noticed the new cupholders:rocker:

Great Job!

Thanks Jyzze!

That is a really nice improvement , an almost new back and a almost new Deere. :bounce:

Thanks Patlun!

Yes we have to maintenance our frame too:lol: I wish my back had grease fittings:D

Have a great day Patlun!

Rudi.

Thanks Rudi! Hey that's true. Why I didn't think that:lol:

I'm not doing any farming, just plowing snow and lifting machinery and other heavy stuff like firewood.

Now when the cab is clean I wear my finest Hawaii shirt when I go to work:lol_hitti

Have a nice day Rudi! How's the baby doing?

I bought this tractor five years ago to help around my construction stuff. I use to do a lot of lifting by hand when I was working full day.

I did some upgrading with the lights and other small stuff.

There was some water in the lights and this nice looking micro forest:lol:

I installed some led lights on the original bezels.

Made a roof rack for lights and a beacon. I replaced the work lights with led lights.

Good old John have saved me a lot of lifting and climbing up and down on the ladders:thumbup:
My latest building I did alone was this 120x40ft warehouse. John helped me a lot.

Have a nice day everyone:beer:

T-handle, those are some nice upgrades on your tractor. Those lights especially, seems like a lot more light. The only problem was you had to clear cut your micro forest. Have you no concern for global warming? :lol_hitti

As far as the darkness goes just remember we are fast approaching the shortest day of the year and from then on things will slowly get better.
Do you guys have any celebrations for the Solstice in your area?

Thanks Jay!

It was a closed micro-environment so no harm was done:lol:

Yes the day is pretty short here too but soon it's turning towards light again:thumbup:

Not any special celebration for the Solstice around here but usually it's my birthday. So an extra cup of coffee has been drunk:beer:

Have a great week Jay

Thanks Zanyad!

My birthday is 22.12 but thanks anyway!

There's a reason why I never got any birthday presents:sad: "Christmas is only two days away, you will then receive a gift" So every new tool is a birthday present around the year:lol:

Okay, so I wasn't going crazy. All this talk about the Solstice and I'm sitting here thinking "Isn't that still a few weeks away?"

I pay close attention to that date because the legal shooting hours for deer hunting in my state are setup to reference sunrise and sunset. Once the days start getting longer, I start to get a little more time to hunt each day. I know it sounds trivial, but a fair number of the deer I've taken were shot in the first or last minute of the day.

Great work on the tractor! John Deere is near and dear to my heart - one of their larger production plants was near where I grew up and a lot of my friend's Dads worked for them. Deere is also one of the larger customers of the company I work for, and a lot number of my college buddies work for them as well.

Tapio, my family has a few members like you. Liane's birthday is the 18th and one of my great grandson's is on the 27th. I make sure they get a present for their birthday and the card has no holiday stuff on it.

More important, my 1972 Corvette left the assembly line on 23.12.1971. I give it a hug every year but Liane gets jealous if I buy it a real present.

Great job on the John Deere. I never imagined I would enjoy seeing someone clean out their tractor cabin as much as I did. You used a variety of your skills from upholstery to repairing the instruments. Most would have just hosed it out and continued to abuse it.

Ok that's interesting. There's not a lot of deer around here. The deer hunting season is about 10 to 20days and is heavily controlled. I have never tasted a deer meat, does it taste like a moose or a reindeer?

Nice! It's good to have some John Deere connections:lol: This one is made in Germany. There's some differences in a Europe model. For example the sg2 cabin has door for both sides.

Yes I feel their pain:lol: Very nice thought of you! You are a kind man Bob. It can be a big deal for kids.
I make sure that my kids gets a birthday party too. When I sing to my 17year old son six at the morning there's a warm wheeling in the air.. Mostly go to hell is yelled under the blanket:lol:

Give the Corvette a hug from me too:lol:

T,

I understand if you feel slighted at Christmas time about your birthday. My younger son was born on the 17th and he hates Christmas because he always feels he get short changed on his birthday....

Yeah I feel him. It's hard to get the family together, everybody's busy for Christmas stuff.
I bet twins feel slighted too. You have to throw some gigantic party for him, with fireworks and stuff:thumbup:

Thanks quadrcr87! Yes I have seen some dirty tractors and excavators. I bet it lowers the work motivation too. It sure is nice to hop in the cab now:thumbup:

Lego organizing project

We were looking for Christmas presents and the prices of Lego sets. Man those are expensive.
We have bought a lot of sets over the years. That got me thinking, if they were sorted we could build some cool sets and "the right brick search time" and frustration would be significantly lower. I hope:lol:

IMG_0487%20%282%29-L.jpg

The shopmanager is helping me or I'm helping the shopmanager.
There's a lot of dust and dog hair on the bottom of the pins. Some random objects too like old candy:lol: We are cleaning the Legos too.

Few years back I washed all the Legos. It was a huge task to do.

I went to buy the same pins that I have in my garage storage system and it was a nice surprise that they were on final sale, 0.20€ a set of five:thumbup:
I bought all the rest of them.

I designed some trays were to but the pins after sorting. I had some big sheets of Baltic birch I bought years ago.
There was this hardware store moving and last days the sale was -90%. That was the time I went shopping:lol:

The Finnish birch plywood is made in here and it's one of the most common trees around here. It's crazy that it makes the most beautiful furniture and we use it as a firewood.

IMG_0498%20%282%29-L.jpg

The welding table is a good working surface but I have to check the cutting depth two times:lol: I have some cheap plywood as a surface cover.

I made some 2.5mm grooves in to the sheet for dividers. Looks groovy:lol: Then I cut the pieces to size.

IMG_0519%20%282%29-L.jpg

IMG_0520%20%282%29-L.jpg

After sanding the inside parts of the trays I applied some satin varnish to the sheets. I did two thin layers sanding with steel wool between layers.

It's easier to varnish the inside parts first, then do the assembly work. I spread the varnish with foam roller.

IMG_0525%20%282%29-L.jpg

IMG_0527%20%282%29-L.jpg

I assembled the trays with wood glue and 19mm pin nails. It's good to tap the nails deep so it really ***** the parts together tightly.

I hide the nails with some wood filler. All I had was oak color but that's ok. It looks like a branch spot when sanded.

After the assembly I did the final sanding with 180 grid and applied two coats of varnish. I didn't do the final polishing with steel wool to the outer surfaces. The plywood gets really smooth with steel wool polish. It would be a disaster to drop one of these when it's full of Legos:lol: So it's good to have some grip.

IMG_0542%20%282%29-L.jpg

The pins fit perfectly both ways. Our first thought was to sort just the Lego technics but now we are sorting them all. I made six trays but I think I have to make some more..

I bought 2mm hard cardboard for the dividers. It's cheap and good stuff for this purpose.

IMG_0547%20%282%29-L.jpg

IMG_0548%20%282%29-L.jpg

I designed the trays for the red pins to fill the whole tray, or if we use dividers the pins fit inside the divided part and the last slot is smaller. So we can but big stuff between the pins with dividers. easy but complicated:lol:

IMG_0550%20%282%29-L.jpg

IMG_0552%20%282%29-L.jpg

IMG_0554%20%282%29-L.jpg

IMG_0551%20%282%29-L.jpg

And yes, all the trays are full now:lol: We have sorted about 60%. I have to do six more trays. But those are easy to do and I have few plywood sheets left. I've been planning a final location for these Lego trays, I think I'll make a cabinet for these trays or I can fit them to the shelfs of the workshop. I have to plan some options.

It's nice when they are stacked together dust wont get in to the boxes. My OCD is taking a full throttle:lol:

Now I'm going to build six more trays:thumbup:

Have a nice weekend everybody!

T-Handle, uh, nice job on the lego organizing. :headscrat. After cleaning, building trays and sorting all those legos, I might have waited a year until the shop manager outgrew them and then given them away. :D
Are you going to build some type of cabinet to hold all those trays? :willy_nil

Try this

Have fun with the Legos....

You should sent some cheap;) birch firewood/plywood over to us in the US. I know Sakurama would love it....

Thanks Gearhead! I have to try to change that page count.

I did some comparison. 12mm 4x8ft birch plywood is about 50€ here, Price at The Home Depot was 48.33 dollars so you guys have cheaper plywood:thumbup: That -90% sale was sweet thou:lol:

I know Sakurama would love that and build some sweet cabinets.

Wow - that organization is impressive.

Thanks Mfg0772!

Oh wow. Great sorting

Yes it's a huge task to do but I like it. I wish we can do some building sessions with my family. It's pretty relaxing to do. Maybe some day there will be grandkids to give them all.
We mostly dig the Technics with motors and stuff. I think I'll build a cabinet like in the picture.

WOW!

Bret

Thanks Bret!

I’m looking forward to seeing the finished product. I’m also in the middle of a Lego organization project myself. Turning a spare bedroom into a Lego themed TV room. Our six children all grew up getting them on every occasion, now they are systematically moving out and ‘willing’ them back to me. I’m subscribed to this thread for ideas; no pressure.

Hi Seedtime and thanks for stopping by!

That sounds like a lot of fun! There's must be a lot of sets you are organizing, I have three kids and there's a ton. It brings a lot of good memories to sort this stuff.
Own room for movies and Legos sounds just perfect. I hope you do a thread about your Lego themed room:thumbup:

Also interested to see how you store all the trays.

First I'm going to but those trays on to the shelf I have in the workshop. I have to find a good deal for thicker plywood so I can build a cart for the Legos. Good quality drawer slides and some handles too, and maybe some label holders:thumbup:

Puuilo shop manager Will send you cristmascard for sure.. To The best customer ever!

Well he actually did:lol::lol::lol:

It was my Birthday so I got gifts:rocker: My wife knows my childhood traumas and bought me a thermal mug and a Bahco combination square.

I glued some boxes yesterday and did some secret Santa work.
