T21 ingersoll Rand compressor

hi all,
I found this compressor on local craiglist, Guy giving it for 500USD and it works, and this compressor has been sitting in his garage for 2 years doing nothing. I know that true because he barely can reach compressor there is ridiculous amount of stuff in his garage piled up and there is no 230v in his garage as well.

I need compressor to do occasional sandblasting and spray paint, I looked into smaller ones but they wont be able to do sandblasting.

I googled and found that incase the motor goes bust on me, its not bad to buy new one, other than that what else is there that can render this compressor junk and cost lots of $$ to fix.

I had an IR T10, about 10 CFM and it was a good compressor- I'm not saying it was a commercial duty, it's not, but good for hobby use, including cabinet blasting. I ran the hell out of it blasting, including some pressure pot blasting, and somehow it didn't melt down on me. If you want to do pressure pot blasting you really want a minimum of 20 CFM unless you want to stand around and wait half the time. Given the name, I assume this is about a 20 CFM compressor? It looks like it's an aluminum pump, and if so, that's not exactly commercial duty. But if it runs, for $500, and this is for home hobby use, then it's a good deal assuming the pump is in good shape.

I would be leery of that if you can't see it running. unfortunately we're in a world where we can't trust people .
I would at least want to inspect it very closely before committing to purchase. turn it over by hand to see if it spins , and burps as it makes pressure , even pressure test the tank for leaks would be advisable in my opinion.
$500 is a lot of money if the pump is ceased/ not pumping, or the tank has a leak etc.

$500 seems high for a compressor you can't hear run. I wouldn't assume that motor is bad, and in fact, adding $200 more to the price for a new motor makes it an even more questionable deal.

he said that I am more than welcome to bring a 220V generator and test it but I dont have any so i cant test it but I will turn over by hand to see if it spins and burps, thank you for that idea, (After talking to the guy for a while, he said that he needs some of my services so it wont be like that i wont see him)

He's asking a lot for a machine that cannot be seen running, there's slippery fish all over the place now a days
ask him to let you take it for testing and if it runs as it should you'll pay him his ask , otherwise you'll bring it back or re negotiate the price with him .

That is a single-stage aluminum pump. There was nothing special about it. I'm pretty sure that IR stopped making replacement parts and compressors for that model. I'd move along and find something else, especially for the price.

oh no, if i cant get parts then it will become a junk, I thought it was 2 stage ,now a days everyone is asking too much for their compressor,

The t21 and the rand 4000 models pictured above are NOT single stage pumps and both of them are better than the other two above. as for parts that pump was used for at least 35 years.
