Take a guess, another Air Compressor question!

Hey all,

Backstory- with the garage now completed i am in need for a air compressor.
I am starting a small CNC plasma business, so the compressor is needed for the plasma and other things around the garage.

Here is what i have come up with through research on here

5hp around 15cfm

Anyone have opinion on these models:

Belaire 216v
Quincy QT-54
Then the infamous HF central pneumatic 93274

Are you getting an air dryer as well? That part of the country can get pretty humid. Water in the air kills the plasma cutter tips.

I have a triple filter (water/oil/desiccant) on my plasma cutter. good for about 10-15 min of cutting before the beads start to turn pink. If I was going to do regular work with it I might consider a small refrigerant dryer upstream.

I bought a Quincy QT-54 a few months ago. It works great but the reviews are not good. I had two problems, the plug in the bottom leaked, I had to buy a new o-ring for it. The gauge on the pressure switch leaked, I removed it, taped it and reinstalled it. I did email Quincy about the leaks, never heard from them.

My friend also bought one at the same time, his had zero problems.

Yeah I am going to use HF refrigerated air dryer. I guess it's pretty good from my research.

The Motorgard "toilet paper" filter works great for me as an end of line final water removal device.

I love my Quincy QT-54. It's in another room seperated by an insulated 2x4 wall and fairly quiet. I also use the Motor Guard "TP" filter system on my plasma cutter.

Did you do any research into the kolbalt model from lowes for 1000?

Personally, I'd take that used Saylor-Beall 705 any day of the week over a brand new shiny Quincy QT-54...NO comparison. I would think there's some 'wiggle' room in that asking price too.

Speaking for myself.... I said nothing about the CL link for two reasons -

#1 - If in good shape, as it PROBABLY is, it is a no brainer.

#2 - I did NOT want to say the first cause "we don't KNOW" if it's been abused in any way.

When looking at a used comp, in addition to trying to estimate tank condition which is tough... the main thing is a guy needs to use a formula and do some cypherin to confirm pump is delivering close to original specs.

It can be done, I don't have the formula handy, but having that, knowing tank volume, and a watch showing minutes/ seconds and starting tank at 0 psi and timing till ? psi shutdown will answer it.
