Is this a 110v only plug or could it be used for 220v also?

Prongs are backwards from my 20amp circuits... It's it just a matter of getting a new plug?

Other end is connected to a jet 1236p metal latbe i picked up. The back of the motor says prewired for 115v but its a 1981 and i dont know if i trust no one has switched it.

It is a 250V rated plug, for 240V equipment.

That looks to be a 6-20P 250v 20a plug. However YOU need to confirm how the motor is wired. Many times the wrong plug is put on a machine.

Look again. It's a 6-20. Plug pictures below are looking AT the prongs of the plug.

Horizontal blade is on the left when looking at the prongs on this plug. Nice wall plate, by the way.

The Receptacle is a 120V 5-20R (Essentially a standard receptacle that is capable of carrying a 20A load when using the proper 5-20P plug)

Do you have a multimeter? Check if there is continuity between 2 and 5 on the motor. If there is, it is wired for 240V, if not 120V. The wiring does look like it is wired for 120V, however the yellow plug is definitely a 240V plug.

The person you purchased this from could have wired their shop incorrectly and used that plug and receptacle as a 120V 20A connection even though it 100% is not.

Think we've established that. Some people are referring to the receptacle, but most are referring to the plug. There are no 6-20P duplex GFCIs, of course... that'd be an interesting find!

As larry said, who knows if the plug was correctly used. If OP is right and it's 120v, just swap the plug out for the right plug.

Based on how its wired going into the motor its wired 230v. Brown is isolated. But not all of the wires match the plate.

Unfortunately non of the wires are labeled 5 or 6 and that's is actually 7 wires coming out of the motor.

Certainly looks like the motor is wired for 230V which corresponds to the plug it has on the cord. Does not seem like too much mystery here.

On i decided to start fresh. Based on the wiring plate posted above and the reversible drum switch on the front of the machine i came up with this wiring diagram.

Anyone have thoughts on it? Goal is to wire the motor for 110v single phase with reverable switch.

Wouldn't you be better off leaving the motor alone and wiring yourself a 6-20/240 recept?
