I just put them in the little baskets on my pegboard in my hutch. Keeps them nice and handy. Plus I'd rather not take up drawer space with something like that.

I use a hacksaw blade with a washer under each end screwed to the wall. That way it is spaced off the wall a 1/8" or so and I can easily hang 5-6 per blade I have 2 blades set up for this.

****... Now i'm thinking about all the places i need to stash a tape measure for convenience purposes. Desk, kitchen drawer, bench, roller box, other craftsman stack, car, tool bag, trailer, next to the chopsaw... I guess it's time to keep an eye out for tape measure sales as I don't have a Harbor Freight anywhere around here lol.

Obviously I didnt take this picture for the purpose of showing the tape measures.

I never even thought about it til i posted about an old mag wheel I cleaned up to use for storing compressor hose, posted it and someone commented on it. Since then I've grown to really like using the toy dump truck to store my tapes.

Anyway, it's another approach:

I like that.

The OP says he is taking all his steel tapes out of a drawer and now he wants to know where to store them.

Simplest answer: BACK IN THE DRAWER!

I hang mine off the ends of my rollaways too. I don't seem to have as many as you guys. One Stanley Fat Max, two Lufkins and one Starrett. Plus I keep a 30" one on my key ring, amazing how often that gets used.

Ha, it was a TOTAL accident. My brother in law saw the little truck at a garage sale for a couple bucks and bought it because I had three trucks at the time. My '08 dually, my '55 and then I had a company provided extended cab GMC.

I just put it on my bench top and hadn't put my tapes away so i threw them on there. Then I took that picture to show the work i'd done on the old mag wheel, NOT the toy truck.

Glad you like it.

I hang several on the lip of the top section of my lower priced roll around toolbox. The lip doesn't have an indented rim (its flush to the lid or has a tiny gap). Close the box and they can't go anywhere.

I store mine on my belt, take it off at night and set it next to my wallet.

My tape measure is an every day carry item. Only take it off my belt if someone gets married, they die, or my anniversary.

I have a bench top workmate that I use often. I was always needing a tape measure... so... I had an old tape measure hook/clip on an old tool belt... I drilled the rivets... repurposed and re-rivet'ed the hook/clip onto the side of the workmate... Bang... a perfect spot for a tape measure.

I'm no help to the OP, but I have 2 places for tape measures where they're considered "put away". One tool box drawer in the garage, and another in the basement. I also have one I keep in the car, because you'll never know when you need to measure something. I have about a dozen tape measures, usually there's 1 or 2 in each drawer.

And I agree, Dan wins the thread with his dump truck.

I keep one in each tool box and one next to my usual seat in the house.

I used one of those galvanized pieces of angle iron with holes in it intended for garage door installations. Screw the vertical flange to the wall and use the horizontal flange between the tape and belt clip. Use the rest of it to store screwdrivers.

I've got a bunch of them scattered all over the house and garage. Gives me at least a fighting chance of being able to put my hands on one when I need it.

Since I do small jobs myself, I keep tm's with each job specific bag. There's one in my electrical bag, one in my plumbing bag, one in my tool belt, an extra in the truck, and one other in the tool box.

At work, I have a leather holder on my belt with a 30' Fat Max. I wouldn't call it a collection- it's just one tool in the right place at the right time.

i dont want to waste a drawer for tape measures.

i couldnt come up with anything i liked, but i have an idea of putting together 3 or 4 stainless drywall mud pans together and screwing them to the backsplash of my workbench. my dad does drywall and he said he had a handful that he doesnt use because they dont wipe mud clean from a taping knife anymore.
only thing else ill need are some self tappers and some drywall screws, which i already have.

hope to get to work on it, just been busy with work lately.

i will update

Thanks for the ideas. I have been trying to clean and organize my building better and want to have a spot just for the tape measure(s)
