Measuring, electrical (standard black and multi color), duct and teflon.

I have masking tape, but it's just for what very little paint work I do and it's with the "paint stuff", not in the tool box.

I have electrical tape in 3 quality levels and 4 colors, non-adhesive friction tape for interior wiring harnesses, duct tape, 3M yellow masking tape, 3M green masking tape, 3M blue masking tape, some cheapo junk masking tape, yellow Teflon tape, white Teflon tape, and Scotch tape. I use it all!

I've used teflon for many years and never broken a fitting. Only worn them out to where they leak so bad they had to be replaced. Due to wear, not the teflon.

Just my experience.

Fittings leak like a sieve without it.

Don't forget the silicon self sealing tape. Get the GB stuff at Menards. Is very, very good, and inexpensive. Never had a failure with it.
Jim

Edit: Don't forget Gorilla tape, and 3M's Super 33. Two more of the best stuff that is out there.

I forgot 3M trim tape, 1/8" 3M fineline tape, and aluminum HVAC tape (great for masking during pressure washing). Do rolls of adhesive-backed sandpaper count? If yes, I have a roll of 150grit and 80grit tape too :)

I use liquid teflon tape for my air tools. Never had a problem.

I bought mine at Ace. It's very similar to non-adhesive hockey tape, it might be exactly the same. It's not really good for anything that will get wet/oily/hot though. I use it for quick, cheap abrasion protection since dash insides are usually sharp.

Thanks. I will have to pick a roll of that up.

Anyone know what they use for automotive wiring harnesses under the hood?

Split ribbed plastic wire loom and then high heat rated elec. tape for the ends for modern cars.

Most anything is also heat shrinked these days as well.

Good thing I have a buddy that can get me any size and lngth heat shrink tubing leftovers by the box for free. :)

In the travel box, I keep electrical tape and teflon tape.

In the shop "box", I've got:

Electrical
Teflon
Marking (the fluorescent trail marking kind, handy for tying around something and writing on that I don't want to get "sticky")
Masking
Painters (Blue/Green)
Red Vinyl
Duct
Gaffers
Packing (clear and brown/paper/kraft)
Aluminum
Double-Sided Mounting

I'm sure there's a couple other kinds in there...

I know the split loom. Does someone have a link to the high heat stuff? Seems to fall off after a 100k miles, wouldn't mind having some around to retape.
