That was my first thought also, but all three that have passed thru my hands have been much coarser thread, and much smaller, maybe 3” OAL, and tapering only enough to be straight over maybe 1/4” of metal. Front right of center.

I’m thinking plumbing, but not sure what twists the threaded piece.
