I brought the print out with me to my local Lowe's. Nope, no deal, at least at that price. The store sales manager did offer me it at $50, I took it, he said that it was being discontinued in some stores hence the deep discount.

There was another Taskforce unit there that was less expensive and mostly plastic. The box said retractable on it, but no definition of what that meant. The subject of this thread specifically said auto retractable, and the box was so badly damaged I couldn't tell if the cheaper unit had a crank.

I went in and tried to get one today at my local Lowes (NY). Was hoping to get two for the new garage as I am close to completing the build, but there was only one left.

I asked the tool department person if they had any more up high (before bringing up the price) but there were no more. They said they weren't stocking that item anymore, so that was the last one.

Then I said "Wow, $79!?!?! My friend bought one at another Lowes for like $25! That's why I came in to get one." At this time I produced the screenshot of the now infamous 1060 store, telling them I brought it in so I could find the same one.

The tool department manager said they'd have to call the 1060 store, which they did and confirmed the price (as I eavesdropped). Then I was told they wouldn't match it since it wasn't the local price, and they vary by region. Then they said it must be on clearance, too. To which I asked, "Why isn't yours on clearance, you only have one left and told me you aren't stocking it anymore?"

They told me I could buy it online from the 1060 store and have it shipped to me to get the $23.99 price! I said that was crazy and I couldn't believe they wouldn't match their own company's pricing, and if I came in with a Home depot ad for this (in a store) I'm sure they'd match that (HD is right across the street). They folded, told me to take it to the register and tell them it was okay. They guy at the register then questioned it again, and had to get the MOD for an override. Of all the people I dealt with, the MOD was the only one who DIDN'T give resistance. He didn't even care if it was that price in a store or the general lowes online price. He said "Is that from Lowes.com?" I said it was. He didn't even bother looking at the store info.

Now it's time to find another local store with one in stock!

Stopped through Grand Rapids North (Plainfield) this morning. They had one on the shelf marked $51 and one more up on the shelf above. I pull out my 1060 printoff, go up front, the "Zone manager" Todd says "nope - we're not required to match that internet pricing from the internet... just cuz those guys down south are losing money on 'em, why should we up north...." Nice enough guy, we had a laugh over it, I told him "you realize I'm going to complain to corporate don't you?..." He said go for it & gave me his store number.

I was putting it back in the tool dept, and the sales gal comes over - "...are you the guy that called this morning for those reels at $24 like down in the Carolinas?"... so someone else here must have been trying it there too.

Called corporate after I left, I'm supposed to hear from senior store mgt within 24 hours... whatever - all the places say that and you'll never hear back. With all of four whole customers in that big ol' store, seems like they'd want every penny they can get.

It only took 45 min for me to hear back from the same MOD that gave me the hassle after I called corporate..Tells me to come and get it for the 23.99.

Got min today at the Woburn, MA store using the 1060 print out. Took some talking but I got it. For those of you having problems convincing them make sure you tell that this isn't a lowes.com price but it's the actual price in the store. That was a big difference for me. They asked if it was a Lowes.com price and I said no, call store 1060 and they will tell you it is on the shelves at that price. Once I got that through their heads, they placed the call and I was out of there in 5 minutes.

I feel bad for store 1060, they probably have an operator solely for these calls now!!!

I guess I should have gone that route. I still haven't received a reply to my email, and I'm thinking I pobably never will

Doubtful.... the national retailers don't seem to have that customer focus of days gone by. Heck, I still have open "service tickets" with Verizon from last August. There's a story for another day... but it sure gets Verizon off the phone quickly when they telemarket to the house trying to "upgrade" my service.

...and you're getting ready to pull the trigger on a $8k build!

This ordeal might also help explain why LOW is in the $14 range from it's 52 week high of $33.

Okay - I got a call back from the Grand Rapids North (Plainfield) store. There's one on hold for me until Friday night. It's almost 20 miles from me, my next couple of days are slammed on the south end of town here...

...if anyone wants a hose reel for $23.99 and is in Kent County here, let me know and I'll pm you the "secret handshake" info I worked out with the douche bag store manager we got worked out.

What a PITA - reconfirms my love affair with Menard's.

Went to lowes in cordova tn they had it marked at 29.99 closeout but none left. Went to lowes in memphis (perkins rd) they had one on the shelf marked 79.99. I grabbed it, went to a cashier with the story( printout, match price, blah, blah). She got the head cashier who checked with the manager about the 'policy' came back in @ 30 seconds and said 'Yep that's the policy, we just received it yesterday, I didn't know about that". They rung it up for 23 bucks and change, no problem.

I just got one using the printout for $23.99. The assistant store manager at the Lowes that I went to told me that those prices are technically for the store only locations that are showing the reduced price. He said not all stores carry the same items and in this case the stores that are listing the reduced price are removing this product from their store inventory due to a lack of sales of that item. After hearing his explanation he still sold me one at the $23.99 price. He did say whooah when he saw the original price of $79.99 and then asked to keep the printout so that he would have something if questioned by his boss about the reduced price. I actually went well prepared by having three printouts, one from a Maryland Lowes, a Virginia Lowes and the North Carolina Lowes in the orginial post, all showing $23.99.

Well, I caused a ruckus this morning at my Lowe's. They were marked $79.99 but I had printed out a 23.99 price from a store about 50 miles away, showed that to the MOD and she said they cant price match online items. I told her that this was being sold at that store for the 23.99 price, after going round and round she called the other store sure enough 23.99. Long story short after talking with three managers I went out the door with the only one they had at 23.99. Great Job Garage Journal!!

If you do a search in the store locator by your zip code it will turn up anywhere from ten to fifty stores depending on your location and the number of stores in your area. Then one at a time, click on each stores "shop this store" green button, then enter the item number 140418 in the box at the top left copy it the first time, then you can do a right click, paste after that) then click on the search button. You get a pic with one of three different messages to the right of the pic and price. Each time, click the back button TWICE, and click on the next store in the list., search again, and so on.

The box labeled "product availability" will say..............

This item is temporarily out of stock at Lowe's Of Newnan, GA. Please select another store. This means the store stocks it, they just don't have it (cause I cleaned them out this evening)

This item is not available for purchase on Lowes.com due to low inventory levels at Lowe's Of Carrollton, GA. Please visit Lowe's Of Carrollton, GA to make the purchase or select another store Meaning they may have some, but not very many. In this particular case, there are no more, the computer just doesn't know it yet, I cleaned them out also.

Currently this item is not sold at Lowe's Of Fayetteville, GA. Change your store to check another Lowe's in your area. Meaning, don't waste your time, this is not a stocking store for this product.

If you get this last one, you are onto a store with a good stock of them.

I bought four this evening. A coworker wanted two, he has a real nice garage he built about three years ago, and told me if I found enough of them, to get two for him, which I did. I would like to have had more than two, but that is all I was able to find, and I don't want to seem greedy, and really cannot justify any more of them.

My coworker called me, he checked his local store, they were out of stock, said they sold five of them yesterday, seems they had a run on the product, I wonder why???:):):):):):):):):):)

These things are HEAVY. They are steel, and rubber air hose, not cheap at all. They are good quality for a China made product, should last me a long time. Neither store gave me any argument, first store went real quick, manager was there and said OK right off, second store had to ask everyone in sight, finally got an approval after calling Charlotte, and then the computers locked up for about 15 minutes and we had a long line of people waiting to check out.

I'm sure someone in Charlotte is wondering what is going on. I'm surprised they haven't put a stop to it already. If this was Sears, it would not have lasted an hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like I'm going by Lowes on my way home tonight to see if I can't get me a couple of these.

Stopped on my way home from work and picked up the last 2 my Lowes had for $23.99 each.

I intentionally went to the customer service checkout stand anticipating a fight. The checker immediatelly started in with "we dont match online coupons" Before she even finished the sentence I said "get a manager!". He was sitting at a desk about 6 feet away. Without even looking up he said "we'll match it". I smiled, slid my card and walked out.

Add 2 more to the list. Thanks OP! Between this and the Gladiator sale thread, I'm really taking a liking to some of our newer GJ members.

I picked up (2) tonight. There wasn't even any question.

My store had them at $35 on clearance but didn't bat an eye to change the price. One of the reels was on the floor, the other was nearly hidden on a shelf.

I was planning on buying a Reelcraft reel. These (2) reels saved me a bunch of money.

I am slightly surprised (and pleased) with these reels. I was expecting them to be less than what they are. They seem robust enough for a home shop. Only time will tell. I really only needed one reel but at $23.99, I thought I should get a spare. I mounted one of my reels and I do like the way it works.

While not quite Reelcraft quality, I think it should work out (if they last). I don't care too much for the "MADE IN CHINA" printed on the rubber hose every few inches, but the price was right.

I wasn't actually ready to buy a hose reel, but I could not pass up on this deal. I'll be running my air lines in my shop in about a month (hopefully). Perhaps I will run some temporary air up to the reel.

I was able to get two of these suckers but both packages they came in had been opened and re-taped several times. Is there supposed to be anything in the package besides the reel and leader hose?

I picked up 3 in northern VA. Went to 3 stores. One had them, not on clearance and the manager absolutely refused to price match anothe Lowes store - said something about store specific sales, clearances, unique inventory, blah, blah, blah. Went to two others, both had the clearance price displayed - got the last 2 at one store and the last 1 at another.

Thanks for the heads up, will try and mount this weekend.

I picked up the last one from the Lowes in Sterling, VA yesterday. The tool manager and I had to have a little discussion first, but he eventually relented. I'd hoped for 2, but I won't complain.

Got one on Monday from the Lowes in Sandusky. They just had to override it at the cash register, but didn't have any problem matching the price from the print out, thanks garagejournal!

Another one here in Newark Delaware. Took the only one on display up to the customer service counter and spoke directly to the zone mgr. Took about 10 mins while he talked with other folks, looked up the price on the lowes site - I had given him the screen print from the Charlotte site - and then he said we'll match it, ring him up. He said he had to keep the screen print for "corporate" and I said no problem :)
