Seems pretty compact. Would have been nice to see a prototype or a rendering.

Yeah, I get the emails too. Looks intriguing, and there's a decent chance I might be in for one once we get a look at the thing.

I'm sort of hoping for a 1/4" drive version.

It appears there will be a single flex joint - the bent stub appears to be integral to the head.

This looks like a gimmick.

Can anyone suggest a situation where the 1st config would not be worse than thumb ratchet or a stubby of equal length?

Can anyone suggest a situation where configs 2 and 3 would be any better than a an equal length flex-head?

The way I'm interpreting it is that there will probably be detents in multiple positions between the ones they're showing. So essentially just a flex head ratchet but I guess they're calling it a flex handle because they've shifted the pivot point further down the handle and that allows a full 180 degree bend rather than the ~90 most flex heads get.

I'm curious to see how the hinge works. I certainly wouldn't want to get my skin pinched in there while I'm trying to exert a lot of force

It's keeping their name in circulation. They make the most of their limited line with their marketing.

Exactly how much force are you going to exert on a 4.7 inch long ratchet? :D

Technically the same amount of force I'd exert on any other one handed ratchet regardless of length. The final force on the fastener changes from the leverage but my exertion only varies based on ergonomics and my body positioning.

I'm just a bit nervous about putting my hand on a metal hinge and I quite like my hands without getting the skin ripped off because it got pinched in some mechanism. At that price though, asides from any potential safety concerns I'll probably get it.

This looks "similar" to Harbor Freight 3/8 inch dual flex ratchet design ($14.99)(SKU: 96369):

Oh god, I would hate that thing so much. Normal non-locking flex heads are annoying enough. Having it dual hinged would just make that thing flop around like a wet noodle I imagine.

It is not bad, but I didn't have much need for it in the original configuration. So, after reading a thread here on GJ, I removed the middle link and ended up with a stubby flex 3/8 inch ratchet. That is useful, because I use 3/8 inch drive tools a lot more than 1/4 and 1/2. I still have the middle link in case I need it. Truth is I use the roto head ratchet the most these days.

Think everyone is missing the point. This was designed for those that wish to carry their ratchet in their front pants pocket...along with your wallet. :D

Not really at all. These fold all the way over. Similar to a palm ratchet. The one you posted folds 90 degrees. Not that its any more (or less) useful, but it is different. I really like tekton. I want to support them. I wont be buying this, barring some unforseen usage.

It looks like something Sears would have floated in the gift bins in the tool section around Christmas and Father's Day.

I could see using it to run a thread chaser. Little leverage for the rough spot, then fold it over and palm through the easy stuff to be sure it's okay.

Interesting, I don't see Tekton do much marketing and I'd consider their line to be pretty impressive.

That said, I don't see a point to this. I have both a thumbwheel and a stubby, and both seem like they'd be superior in design to this.

It needs Bluetooth. Maybe the next iteration will have it but I think they missed an opportunity here.

It looks like Tekton added photos of the actual folding ratchet to their website.

Thanks Fedwrench.

The actual photos are way more impressive than those silhouette renderings from earlier. I don't have a particular need for it but I see that it's a variation of their current ratchet design which I consider one hell of a good ratchet for a good price.

Not so gimmicky when I actually see it. I can see it selling to the service types that need to keep space and excessive tools to a minimum.

So this ratchet has a flex handle with a 180 degree swing arc, just like any other flex ratchet. Only they moved the arc around 90 degrees so the handle can fold over the back of the ratchet head, at the cost of losing the ability to flex the handle downwards under the front of the ratchet head. I'm not seeing a win here. :dunno:

Yeah, I'd think that with such a compact design they come out with a 1/4" drive version. Or a 3/8" head in a 1/4" handle option.

Maybe if I didn’t own a stuby flex I would consider it but looks pretty gimmicky and none of their demonstrations showed it saving much time
