Tekton is awesome!

I was on the site and found the warranty submission page. This is probably only the third tool i have ever had to warranty in over 20 years of using tools professionally. I bought one of the 1/4" drive 50 or so piece socket sets in the red portable cases. The quick release ratchet does not hold any brand sockets or extensions. I can pull the right off with no resistance. Ive had sockets fall off while using it under load a few times. Well I sent them the message with a pic of the ratchet last night and woke up this morning to an email saying a new one was on its way. I own a decent amount of tekton tools I use daily in my work van. I will be buying MUCH more. Probably the new hard handle screwdrivers will be making their way to me soon. As well as some of the new ratchets. Awesome service tekton.

Their website is awesome, their shipping policy is awesome, their customer support is awesome, some of their product features are awesome and their price's are awesome.

There sure is a lot to like but I haven't had much opportunity to actually use their products.

It looks like their focus is core hardline tools but they should think about adding flare wrench sets to their offering.

As I mentioned before, I think Tekton will become what Craftsman was in their good days.
They are bringing more manufacturing back to US. Their customer service is great. I think that the policy of warrantying the tools which does not require one to return a broken tool which will go to trash on arrival is great saving the hassle of going to the post office (honestly, how many tools do we really break in the lifetime? Most likely very few as DIY guys (I expect professionals do it even less given the experience). However, knowing that you can replace a tool if needed goes a long way our days

I also wish they started making wrench rails similar to SO KRA15 and the larger ones in red and other colors (I have a lot of wrenches from different manufacturers and periods ), I prefer the rails with the same depth rather than Ernst style ones)

I can't tell you what the difference is and I do not own any Taiwan Craftsman (all USA). I can tell you that I have been buying Tekton tools over Craftsman for a while now and have been very satisfied with the tools I have purchased from them. Tekton is my choice when I am looking for a good tool at a good price.

The only place I've really seen Tekton tools is over at a rather large flea market in my area for a number of years now (same thing goes for "Grip-On," which Northern Tool also appears to carry some of).

I've looked over a number of Tekton's hand tools and much of it looks similar in fit/finish to Harbor Freight's stuff. In fact, I wouldn't doubt if the company has a hand in supplying much of what HF carries. Most of it looks halfway decent, but not really high quality. The price is certainly attractive, though. Much like HF, you sometimes have to sort through a pile to find jaws that line up well on a pliers set, for example. I once bought some Tekton hole punches, but found them to be quite dull when I went to use them.

I have heard good things about the company handling warranty claims, much in the same way you stated. I actually emailed them once about the warranty on a tool of theirs I was interested in and the response was prompt and encouraging. There appears to be some really good reviews on some of their torque wrenches.

Don't bother with buying their spark plug sockets, what a piece of junk. The rubber insert is absolute ****. Made of a viynal plastic, that resist the plug going in and comes out of the socket. Very disapointed, I have a couple other of their products that I like, but these are horrible.

I really like my Tekton Torque wrench. Been torquing down lug nuts with it for a year... everyday. I'm going to have it re-calibrated soon, curious to see how it is! I've gotten a feel for 149nm and it seems like its right on still based on feel.

Giants, try finding Snap On used on CL or eBay. Recently there was a metric set in Western Mass for $65. If you just need 2 sizes, consider even eBay...
The only problem: they make 9-11 and 10-12mm. No 10-11 to the best of my knowledge...

The Gunmetal ones? honestly they're probably similar. Although my understanding is the new Craftsman ratchets can't be lubricated which would annoy me. The combo wrenches look identical.

I think the gunmetal Craftsman may be the same as the Dewalt stuff. Haven't really looked closely but they appear similar.

If comparing to the Dewalt based Craftsman the biggest differences is are likely warranty ease and range of sizes which both go in Tekton's favor. In terms of features the Craftsman may be slightly longer and I believe have ASD type open ends which the Tekton wrenches do not.

I didnt have much experience with tekton but its awesome I bought the 1/4dr set and from what I see the prices are good and the tools feel like they are good quality. I recently broke an extension all I had to was go to their website upload a pic of the broken tool fill out name, email, address and that was it the next day I got an email saying they had a new extension on the way. It took 5 days from the day I emailed them to when I got a new one in the mail.

The collective wisdom here on GJ says to always buy the highest quality flare wrenches you can find. That usually results in SO or SK being mentioned.

This might be one example where you should bite the bullet and pay SO prices.

There are definitely some similarities/overlap. However Tekton's website claims they source <10% from China. I bet HF is 90%+.

They also claim 75% is from Taiwan and 15% from the US.

If I'm not buying American made, Tekton gets first consideration. I don't think there's a tool marketer anywhere (outside the tool trucks) with more focus on customer service. That's like a breath of fresh air in this current retail environment.

There are some reviews over the black and decker version of wrenches and the finish on them is abysmal compared to what was coming out of Sears before they went overseas and even those most say the quality dipped at the end of the USA lines.

I would have to disagree. The HF wrenches are all China and predominantly India COO. Their sockets and ratchets are indeed very similar (Pittsburgh), but the finish is a hair better on the Tekton and Tekton doesn't skip the sizes like HF. I can't say anything for the Icon tools, but those seem to be more on par albeit more expensive than Tekton and seems to still have QC issues to work out still.

I was looking for a good sockets and wrenches that didn't break me for my home shop and decided on Tekton because of the customer support and the variety. Otherwise, if it was 20 years ago, I would only have Craftsman.

I agree with you on this . All of Tektons new offerings that have leaps and bounds above Harbor Freight Pittsburgh or Quinn. It looks a lot lime the Icon stuff but less expensive. Some of the older Tekton stuff was pretty much the same as HF but not anymore.

Yes. And since it arrived today and works as it should. The point was the customer service. Kinda refreshing that a company provides this level of customer service. No hoops to jump through.

Bought a set of 1/4 drive deep metric sockets about a year ago at a Big R for $10. I needed deep 8mm for removing front drive shaft on Jeep Liberty. It was not the"no skip" set but was a bargain at the price. Looking at a 1/2 drive deep metric socket set and maybe one of the non QR 1\2 drive 90T ratchets to replace the chinese Craftsman that I got as a warranty replacement for Dad's last ratchet.

1) He's sharing his customer service experience, not reviewing a product.

2) Tekton is more of a tool brand/manufacturer than a vendor. Although they do sell tools directly, so this is kind of a gray area.

3) Are you really arguing that "General Tool Discussion" is an inappropriate place to post this?

It would have to be a common issue to occur in two randomly selected tools. Have you seen a lot of complaints about Tekton QR ratchets not retaining sockets? No? Okay then.

That is a much older set that has been discontinued. The new set is better and worth the difference.

About 4-5 years back Fleet Farm was carrying a bunch of Tekton stuff... but it's all gotten phased out in favor of Dewalt. So I think this is likely old stock.
