I'm a few months into my new shop. Wanted to share. I will add details as I go, but the basic concept was to get my home garage clear of toys and equipment so I can park my daily driver in the garage and have a functional auto shop. We had considered several options; metal building, pole barn, and since it's going so close to the house my wife wanted to match up as close as possible. I wanted a lift installed from the begining. The builder and I went through several interior layouts and ended up with a solid plan. The structure is 40' x 60' approx 2000 sq. ft. Under roof with a 1300' main floor and approx 1500 above on the second. There is 16'of carports and 8' porches on the side and rear. The original plan was a vaulted ceiling and no second floor, thankfully the lumberyard owner talked me into the second floor, as this will really make the shop. This resulted in an additional expense, but the end product will be worth the extra expendenture. We installed a laminated beam 36' x 8" wide. This eliminated the need for any Lally posts. The second floor is all I Joists and will hold the weight of a vehicle.
The information here on GJ has been extremely helpful and I look forward to completion in a few weeks.
I'll post more as I have time.
