Testing a Fill Rite fuel pump

Is it ok to use water to test this pump?

It should be ok mine is a aluminum impeller i think. if your really worried do it with water then do a couple of gallons of gas to flush it...

Not pumping might need to neck down to inlet from 2" to something smaller.

no idea, but do they need to be bled?
also I would flush well with gas or diesel if you put water in it

I picked some pvc reducers and will give it a shot, if not I'll pull the pump off and have a look.

EDIT:
It pumps a little bit but not 35 gpm. Upon further examination the coupler is broken. Here's the rebuild kit.

Once you fix the coupler, it still may disappoint you.

Those pumps won't put out near the "rated" GPM. It is kind of like "Detroit Horsepower" from my youth. I think the ratings come from 0 head (not having to pull the fuel up from below) and an unrestricted outlet. Pumping up from a tank and having hose/nozzle on the discharge greatly reduces the flow.

I would test with mineral spirts. Flow ratings with a register on it , maybe 15gpm using a non automatic nozzle.
