Thanks.

Today I finished everything off, which is to say I secured it so that when the wind blows, it won't collapse onto itself or sail away.

I hope. :)

One part of that was drilling several 1" holes in the concrete underneath the thing. I'm always amazed by the effectiveness of my inexpensive Harbor Freight 1" hammer drill when it comes to these occasional holes. The 3/8" bolt you see goes into an anchor that goes 12" down and is encased in expanding concrete mix. It's rated for #2000 of pull. I'm using them to secure one row of the pillars for this thing.

My method was to secure the base plate to the concrete, and then weld the pillar to the baseplate.

Cuts like butter. I too was impressed with this hammer drill. Great project that the kids will benefit for years to come.

Here's some Labor-Day garage inspiration -- packed into a 49-second video. You can view it by clicking the image or the YouTube link below it.

Thanks. No one ever asked me permission to use the clip, but I guess I'm flattered to be on their show.

Here's a version with only my lift and none of their other content.

I would ask them if it's all right to re-edit and repost their stuff like this, but of course they never asked me. :)

I actually commented on their facebook post giving you credit and telling people about this thread.

Hey "this guy", that would be a good question to ask. Copyright is copyright, I would assume. Congrats anyway. You do have an awesome garage.

I used to watch the Power Nation shows on Sunday mornings....but not if they are a bunch of content pirates. Copyright is almost a joke any more. I had a photo on Flickr used by a brake pad company for a magazine ad....no permission, nothing. That's why I quit Flickr.

I was watching a clip a few weeks ago I know it was something that I had already seen but it seems odd, smaller... So I went searching for the clip I found it 2 other times One was medium the other was large. The original had a water mark in the lower corner. The medium had cropped the video to remove the original contents water mark. The small had cropped the medium videos water mark and made it even smaller. Zero credit was given couldn't believe it...

Cool shade Jack they are going to have to name a library or a wing after you soon!

Photographers deal with this constantly, and not just with internet. It happens in print and national ad campaigns.

On an unrelated note, there's only one living creature that ever peed on the floor in the 12-Gauge Garage and was still allowed to come back in -- our new Whippet puppy, Lucky. Hopefully, he'll put this whole housebreaking thing behind him in the next couple of weeks. :)

Cute puppy! He looks like he has not grown into his paws yet. You must love him if he survived peeing on your garage floor!

I would hope that Lucky is the only one EVER to pee on the floor. Cute looking dog. What prompted the new addition to the family?

For the shade structure?

RgMfPf.jpg

I used the same fabric on two other shade structures I built (at my house). One's been there for 7 years:

This one's been up for 4-1/2 years.

No signs of degradation from UV on either of them, yet.

Thanks.

Here are a couple of new things from the internet. One is a website called 'The Richest,' which put together a list of 'celeb garages we want to live in.' Not sure why, but I'm proud of the fact that I am by far the poorest and least-famous person on their list. :)

http://www.therichest.com/high-life/15-celeb-garages-we-want-to-live-in

And speaking of poor, it looks like I won a whopping $50 in Grand Tour Nation's 'Garage Wars' show.

Here is the second episode of their series, which includes my shop:

Well done indeed. At least you are articulate enough to write your own copy. :) I identify with your garage in particular, and not the other car museums. ;)

Jack, You have been included in a great list of garages. Yours is the one that I feel resonates with most of the members. It is a garage that is within reach of most if we are willing to do the work.

Thanks.

Here's a night-time picture in it, after a track day a few months back -- photo taken by Andrew Tipping.

Geez, this is what it looks like moments after getting back from a track day? My garage is a disaster the night I get back and sometimes the next day, too. Maybe that's because I'm on a motorcycle instead of a car. Cool pic, kudos to you for that kind of dedication to organization.

That's what it looks like moments after getting home from a track day when you knew the photographer from England would be coming back there after the track day. :)

Jack: i had to smile when you said LUCKY was the only LIVING CREATURE to pee on the floor of your garage and still able to come back. are there other pee victims? :bounce:

seriously congrats on all the awards and i have to agree that most of us are able to maybe do what you have done with existing funds, but not too many have the skills and devotion to stick with it. your picture of you sitting at your bench looks AWESOME.

WELL DONE SIR!!
