Plus the city gave me a little bit of grief about the building being in front of the house since we burned the old house down. The ordinance says an out building in front of the residence has to have the same exterior finish as the residence.

We will be pouring that floor next year. The Bats will like that and no more dirty shoes!!!

How long ago did you burn the old house down? I tried to donate a 118 Y.O farmhouse to the local FD but wasn't not so successful. I had to tear it down the old fashion way.
On your bats, did they just set up shop in your other barn or did you recruit them (Bat house ect) I have 2 creeks, one running along the edge of my property and a big one right across the street, the Mosquitos are bothersome in the summertime and I was thinking of trying to attract some bats to help out!!

We donated the old Farm House back in March 2008. Donate is kind of misleading...I had to make a donation of $1500 to the fire department. Then have everything tested by an independent Testing company for things that would make the EPA or MPCA cringe if they were to burn. Then the DNR wanted a slice of the pie too...in total it cost me about $4000 to "donate" the house.

As far as the Bats go, the Bats, thousands of them were living in the attic of the old farm house. They were displaced and I am sure many moved on but we had quiet a few in the old Shed, in hollowed trees, cracks in the retaining walls, just about anywhere you can imagine.

Put up the Bat houses. They will help if the Bats are in your area. It may take awhile to attract a colony. I sure you can google the subject on best ways to attract them.

Wow, that's a lot of bats. We get one Little Brown bat that stays in our eave on the north side of the house when it migrates north and south, but it doesn't stay more than a week during each trip. It has been coming back for about the last 7 years. We have 4 or 5 red bats that live in the trees in the neighborhood. They come back all summer and hang out around the house in the evenings.

So since you burned the house down to the ground, did the fire department use it as training exercise for new recruits to show them how the fire spreads? Or did they just come out to keep an eye on it make sure no embers took to the air and spread?

I have looked online, I will build a bat house or two and see if I can attract anything?? I did save a lot of lumber out of the old farmhouse, but I am glad it is down. I had to bring in top soil so my ground would perk, it has to sit for about 10 more months then I can start on the new septic system and our house. I would like to concrete the drive like you did, but thank goodness its no where near the amount you have, I am thinking about 60 or so yards
