Re: My "Shop"

Nice shop Taumac! Really like the vise collection.

I'm not sure if you meant you weren't sure how to include pics, or just didn't because there were so many, but here's a tip I got early on thats worked for me:

On each of the pictures in your album, there are two links below the pic when you click on it. The second one is called ""BB Code". If you'll highlight everything in that line and copy it, then paste that into a post, your pics will show up. That's how I do it anyway...I'm sure there are other ways.

Either way...nice looking shop....very well organized!

Re: My "Shop"

Nice shop, I like the organization.

Question: what for brackets did you use for the floating bench? Does it feel solid or is there flex if you'd put something heavy or do heavy pounding on it?

If that only took you an hour, I can only imagine how organized it would be if you put some time into it!

Can you come do mine?

Re: My "Shop"

The bracket are just those 12 x 12 shelf brackets you get from Home depot or any hardware store. Theres 6 of them and if remember right there rated at 100 ilbs plus theres a 2 x 4 mounted to top with 4 lags into wall so its doesnt flex. I usually use gray table ( which welding top is clapped to) or top of the press for heavy pounding not that bench probably couldnt do it. I could easly mount 2 legs but like the floating like it is. The buckets I got from a friend and use them to storage everything from rope/ caster wheels/ spray paint/ old bottle jacks in the orange ones. The white ones hold my electric pressure washer hoses, car wash towels, car brushes stuff like that. I do like vises ( LOL ) plus it doesnt hurt when I got them all for "FREE" over the years.

Re: My "Shop"

I should name garage 5 lbs in1 lb bag LOL. I live in west coast of Fl and this whole garage was layout was that I would be able to put 2 cars into my garage in case of hurricane. Its all about space and Ive basically used all of it. Next projects is 2 tables, 1 welding table to hold all welding stuff ( mig and O/A setup ) those 2 Cratsman vises and and folding welding top and it will fit under bench. 2 nd one is a combo drill press/ bandsaw where the drill press is with a sliding shelf on bottom that bandsaw can slide out and use. The roll bottom will turn into rolling cart to use it shop and service cart will be disasibled and put it attic with other one for possilbe futher use down road. The attic I aslo use for storage as it has my 3 ladders (4, 6, and folding ladder) big shop vac and my 2 B & D workmates.

Very nice garage. Some garages on this site are just not affordable by the regular working stiff.

I would say that your garage is one of the nicer ones on here!

Re: My "Shop"

A '5#ShopInA1#Bag' is an appropriate title for your place. You did one hell of a good job organizing your stuff AND you still have room for two cars; outstanding! For the 'hat trick', about showing a pic from the driveway showing both cars tucked safely inside. Its one thing to have a real working shop, but to keep it organized enough to store two cars (and a washer & dryer - lol) is something we don't often see here at GJ!

Re: My "Shop"

Thanks steammill, That means alot. My garage has been a 5yr work in progress. Alot of what you see with except for maybe compressor and my 4 high tool box has been found, given, or on pernament loan. The layout has changed 10 times at least alway fine tuning it. One year my New Years resolution to wife was that the garage would not go through a "MAJOR" reno for a year. Im VERY proud of my shop and what I made it into on a shoe string budget and I glad that I can share it with all of you to enjoy.

@ XRDAD. In Florida alot of ppl have sliding screens on there garage and that what they are. It basically like sliding doors 4 panel with a track. My has what they call privicy screen you can see out but not it well sort of. Its the best thing I ve ever did for garage and at only $650- 700 dollars.

Re: My "Shop"

@ OMPHALOSKEPTIC Right now I can fit wifes car cause friend gave me a riding lawnmower and and in- progress projects on in way but soon ill be able it fit my truck again.

Lawnmower (which lady gave me only a yr old when I got it) my welding table project, press, friend O/A set up ( which he needs to come get, worked on it for him.

The plan is at some point redo bath closet which is right behind W/D and put them inside that closet which then lawnmower will go where W/D is. The plan was never to have riding lawnmower but a friends father moved in with her and she then had 2 riders. Wife and I have been long friends with her and we helped her out so she offer it to us for helping her. If it comes down to it and hurricane comes my neighbor behind us has room so I can put it there and put cars in garage if needed.

Re: My "Shop"

I like your garage as well as any I have seen here. You get 12 on a scale of 1 to 10 for organization. It is very comfortable looking, yet you could start any scale of project.
It is realistic in nature. It is personal. It is very complete.
This should be the poster child of Garage Journal. It says "I am a well done shop".

Re: My "Shop"

Well finally decided a name for my garage. Its now call it the " 5 Stitches" Garage. Its cause of this hanging on my wall.

The story is first time I learned how to welding I cut my finger with a grinder, But me being a man I got electrical tape and paper towel and taped it up. My friend said to my wife I might need stitches and after some talking I finally gave in and ended up getting 5 stitches. LOL When I think of no matter how careful I am or if wearing gloves of not I always end up bleeding so think its a fitting name.

Re: My "Shop"

What kind of railroad track is that you have on your bench? It looks like something I could use. Thanks, Steve

Re: My "Shop"

Honestly, I dont know. I found it on side of road not to far from a railroad crossing. I use it alot instead of my anvils on vises.

Re: My "Shop"

Hey Taumac -- Good idea on the shop name....Like it!

Can you tell us more about the second vise from the right in the picture of 5 up on the benchtop? It has a very cool art-deco look to it. Also, I notice you've got wooden bases on all those vices....how do you mount them when in use?

I just noticed the garage door screen too....That's nice. Keeps the bugs out and lets you get a breeze in there?

Re: My "Shop"

That vise is a Wilton Shop King and I got it from neighbor when they where cleaning out garage. I really like it cause of it style. The other 2 craftsman will eventually be used on my newer welding table but now they are on wood so I can use them when and wherever I choose. I didnt want to permantly mount them to float bench cause one its alttle high to use and 2nd I dont them in the way when using bench.
