Sounds like a sucky week Gerard. Try to get it totaled. After an impact like that, it twists the frame and will never drive the same. Try to negotiate with the insurance company, a lot of the time they will be willing to give you a little more if you show receipts or threaten with a lawyer. Good luck finding a new ride for the wife.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

Thanks Herb, well today was the 3rd hit. Things happen in 3's. MIL, accident and now work. I drive for a living and usually work and the state will inform you that license is up for renewal. I didn't receive notice from work or state license was up for renewal. I drove for about 2 weeks on expired license. It was a honest mistake and was unaware of issue until it was brought to my attention and fixed it that day. I was placed on suspension tuesday morning and after talks with HR I got called in today for a decision. I still have a job but was placed on unpaid suspension for a week as punishment.
Good thing they listen to my case. Old action and results where very back and white and now they want to know what was the intent of employee. I honest could have been terminated under old rules.
So ill just take the punishment even though it *****. I guess I could use time to help with MIL, deal with insurance and replacing car and maybe clean up garage if have time.

Have a good one, Gerard

Well, I got some work done on table.
Added a metal drawer for storage and another receiver for stuff.
View attachment 342502
I put some wood down to hold the vise when not in use.
View attachment 342503
I tried to use old folding prop from last table but it wasn't working. So I came up with this.

I used some old door hinges, the bar is 2 bars off a garage door where trolley attaches to door and pins are just the nuts and bolts off a lawn mower handle. Now it time to finish welding everything up.

Well, its too late to do update on work bench but its perfect time to show off the lighting for bench.
Just 2 small fluorescent under shelf.
uploadfromtaptalk1401163768727.jpg
uploadfromtaptalk1401163847225.jpg
Under add the ceiling fixture. Its a 4 ft 2 tube.
uploadfromtaptalk1401163905117.jpg

I used this track lighting before and decided to try it again. I got it from friend who owned a gallery. This is 5 projection halogen. 2 on each vise and 1 on DP.
uploadfromtaptalk1401163999806.jpg
Then I add the 4 centers.
uploadfromtaptalk1401164176019.jpg

Its hard to tell from picture but its bright. Here's a tool just with under shelf.
uploadfromtaptalk1401164272780.jpg
Now with track lighting

Cont from previous... I walked outside and took pic of just bench lights no track.
uploadfromtaptalk1401164994018.jpg
Then turned on all garage lights.
uploadfromtaptalk1401165092181.jpg
The local power grid had a power surge LOL. I not going blind got I like bright lights when working on things. This is what the work bench would look like if just used the main garage light which is a 4ft 2 bulb.
uploadfromtaptalk1401165276498.jpg

I'm up to 6 fixtures in ceiling controlled by switch for 1 or all 6.
1 over sink.
1 to light my HF bench
Had 2 for work bench 1 ceiling/ one where those 2 are now
9 halogen over bench. HOLY ****....I wonder who h else Ias 10 4ft twin bulb fixtures in only a 20 x22 garage. LMAO.... I guess I take after my father in law with his lighting but I don't think he has 10. Tomorrow if get time I'm snap some pics on work bench changes.

A really great garage Gerard. I just finished this particular thread and will now go catch up on the earlier links you have. You are always thinking of new stuff that's for sure. I have a cart put aside for a portable welding table myself and have just revised some of the plans in my head for that project from the one you are working on. I especially like the fold up table section and the vise mount tube. Consider those ideas stolen and awaiting implementation.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

Well, snap some pictures of work bench changes. I'm thinking theses will allow me to stay more organized will working on a project instead of a pile of parts and tools.
uploadfromtaptalk1401203367447.jpg
uploadfromtaptalk1401203339674.jpg
I cut down one of those small bins. I intended first to hang it next to chest but decided to put it back where and keep it off bench. I ended up using top I cut and my other small bin all in one place. I also did the tape measure holder above switches.

I really like my cans and that shelf so I decided it had to stay. Those cans I use to hold grease, antisieze, pencils etc. I did cut down the amount of red bins and took them off the plastic hanging bracket thinking a shelf would work better and allow for a place to put stuff while in project. I still have magnetic holders they work great as long as I don't fill them up with nuts ans bolts and never put them away.
I really needed some plugs on bench. I found this power strip and rewired it.
uploadfromtaptalk1401203918312.jpg
I did stubble apon tool storage when I place strip. It turns out to be a great place are tools while working.
uploadfromtaptalk1401203999315.jpg

I had this lamp and kicked ot around for years so finally decided to work it it permanently. I made a holder from a rerod nut and hold down for conduit.
uploadfromtaptalk1401204144128.jpg
uploadfromtaptalk1401204162683.jpg
I very very low on wire for wig so is just tacked at moment.
uploadfromtaptalk1401204224164.jpg
I did post about chest before but I'm hoping this attempt to get things off the bench and stay more organized while working actually works.

Gerald, I might have you beat on the lights, but my 11 fixtures cover a 24' x 27' three car garage. And I still want 1 more for a dark spot. Doing car work, I just didn't want to have any shadows...

Nice work on your garage and great ingenuity of finding storage places. I had to start from page 1 of volume 2 and I got to post 50 where you proclaimed that after working for over 8 years and its finally done, then I realized that there were 11 more pages to go... Yours is just like most of ours, 90% complete, 50% to go! I might just have to take an adventure up 41 to see all the details in person.

Keep up the great work!

Nice work Gerard. How do you like your drill press setup? I need to decide if I'm going to have a separate table for mine or one long bench with it at the end.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

I forgot to post this earlier... I've been experimenting with some more pvc holders.
uploadfromtaptalk1401234391319.jpg
uploadfromtaptalk1401234410037.jpg
I cut down most of the ones I made previously to 3.5 inches and started modifying others by heating the pvc with torch to change the slot size to hold various tools such as hammers and some air tools. I've yet to use yet during a project but feel it will help to keep tools off bench while in a project.

Nice work Gerard. How do you like your drill press setup? I need to decide if I'm going to have a separate table for mine or one long bench with it at the end.

To add from my response from earlier. I think depending on the DP you have and use will make a difference to. The big one I currently have is tall and when you place it atop a bench it becomes a dangerous height. My bench is at 36 in and from base to bottom of chuck at 21in puts that chuck at about throat level for me which is too dangerous imo. On cart currently is down to 51in off the ground and puts chuck at chest level safer but I want it few inches lower maybe 48in. I don't know if there a safe height and a height it should be be I feel very comfortable using it at that 48 to 52in height. Those might change depending on your height.

Anytime to can make a machine or tool more versatile and mobile is a good thing. The base can be anything from a filing cabinet or a homemade deal like making. I got the idea from old time neighbor who has a mobile table with dp, grinder, scroll saw, and 1 or 2 other things. He wheels this table all around garage as needed and rolls it back when done. His works great. Maybe tomorrow if he's home ill snap a pic of it.

It you want to see My DP check out the link in my signature. It should be done in a month or so. I want it kind of high since I'm 6'4". My bench is going to be right at 37 inches.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

I have good news. I made a deal with father to buy his Ford Explorer Sport Trac. We talked about it for years but it was right time for all involved. Father wanted a newer car and I needed a safe, reliable, vehicle for wife to drive. Her vehicle is also the family car that we use to travel. Its a 2007 sport trac xlt with 27000 miles. I've also wanted one but for me and not the wife. Wife prefers to drive a car than a truck but deal was good. When all said and done we own less on this than the VW Passat. We loved that Passat and hate that it got totalled. We searched and looked at a lot of 2006 thru 2008's but couldn't find one that could replace our pristine 2001 for price we wanted to spend. It real fitting I have a trucks ave sign now cause its now all Ford's and all trucks. LOL

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

I been banging my head trying to figure out this DP cart and how I wanted it to look. I pondered this thought in head for a few days so today decided to try it. I have a 28in wide by 26in deep gap between tall cabinet and bench. I thought well if make 2 rollers one for DP and one for welder and torches that leaves we still a place to put cart. It just didn't look right. So here's the plan.
uploadfromtaptalk1401581530431.jpg
I mount dp sideways and with one move I just finished my dp. There's plywood on top to support dp and bottom to support casters. uploadfromtaptalk1401581567351.jpg
uploadfromtaptalk1401581587784.jpg Downside is I gotta pull it out to access storage but I got plan to arrange tools.

I've also been looking at bench area and overall look. Here's new plan.
uploadfromtaptalk1401581622721.jpg
The bench will get a 12in extension and end at dp base. Now today I called in on a vintage 1970 2 drawer craftsman chest but it was sold. I like the look of a 9 drawer craftsman roller but they are at 39 in tall but I need 29in which is height of my other 2. I did the math and I need 1 intermediate MBC box or a vintage craftsman craftsman to make it work.
uploadfromtaptalk1401581657491.jpg
The plan is to have the look from front of a bottom roller with storage behind for my welder.
uploadfromtaptalk1401581704430.jpg

Unfortunately, I didn't find room to fit my homemade service cart. I did stubble across a idea. The drawers I got from my dad are almost identical to my service cart boxes. 16x21.5 and those drawers are 16x21 from slide to slide. That just totally worked out. Kicking ideas into high gear and things and working out. I knew someday I would figure it out. Trail and error as always.

Looking good Gerard... forever changing!

My Garage:
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=243729

Thanks, forever changing....... Isnt that the truth. LOL I've always envisioned work bench with tool cabinets underneath. I did it first was the HF bench and now the work bench.I believe I could have just bought everything years ago put it together and called it done. It sure would have been easier. I'm like you where I find stuff and worked it in or said ok lets try this or that. The journey has been fun and a challenge and still following the built not brought philosophy.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

Thanks Herb, Well that dent didn't come out. Painting all hangs on what piece I find to complete that roller. I would like to find another craftsman chest of same era to complete the all vintage craftsman look. If I find another MBC like intermediate than I have a plan to make drawer pulls to match the craftsman and paint it to match the silver/ red craftsman style. If I find another craftsman then ill paint the MBC all red that I painted vises and fans. Its just takes time to find the right box I need. I'm surly in the end of mocking things up and getting it all ready to paint. I getting ready to refinish the 2 machinist boxes, the 4 drawer deal next to my HFs and the bin storage on both benchs. Thanks for the comments.

I like the way you have them all falling in place. Having the DP sideways on the roller may work pretty well. There may be a few times that an easy drill may be needed, but that close to the side cabinet, I think more times than not, the roller will be pulled out some to use it. I have a floor DP and have no storage around it. My nearest set of bits is about 10' away. So, pulling out the cart once in a while shouldn't slow you down too much

Hey Wingnut65 looky looky...

uploadfromtaptalk1401582754268.jpg

2 more twins and a single. Think that's 11 twins and 1 single. You still got me beat. LMFAO....

Maybe on the tubes, but I don't have all the track lighting that you have to brighten up your space.

And, isn't adding more lights Step 3 on the GJ Twelve-Step Program?? More Space, More Power Outlets, More Lights... Yep, number 3!!!

Wow! Just came across your thread for the first time. Its truly unbelievable how you have been able to use EVERY square inch in your double garage. Excellent example of creative organization.

I'm also sorry to hear about your dub :(

Oh **** I skipped step one. DAMN! Gonna have to tell wife I broke the 12 step program and need a addition to follow GJ law. LOL. Thanks for the comments. I believe the DP positives sure out weight the negatives for my garage. I agree ill have to roll it out for bigger items. It was kinda problem I had before mounted on bench besides the height issue. Things seems to be falling into place nicely. FINALLY. LOL I just had to find right cabinets and layout to work which took forever. Thanks again for the comments.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It truly mean a lot to me. We are sadden by the loss of our VW. I've driven a few VW and that Passet is first we owned. What a great car. We will get another Passat someday. The deal with father and his Sport Trac was too good to pass up. Thanks again for the kind words.

Decided to try Krylon out. This has paint and primer in one. Color banner red. Its close to my HF but not exactly. I posted somewhere that paint but couldn't find that post at store. I also picked up 2 cans of there hammered paint. I don't know yet cause I'm trying to match the existing silver paint on the craftsmans. There's a couple of different ones out there to choose from. uploadfromtaptalk1401841277394.jpg

Im really liking how fast this krylon is drying. Ok good point but I have a issue which is the color. The hammered isn't working out either. uploadfromtaptalk1401929841167.jpg
Its to light. Once again I'm liking the dry time. Seek peek of welding table.
