Emeraldcoupe. It is a really cool box. I'm thankful for the person who told me to come get it and give it a new home.

Well, DRUM ROLL PLEASE...

LOL, I know 1/2 cup. Its another Craftsman saw but I was waiting for Herb to return from his trip to tease him. I know he LOVES these old tools. Ironically, Herb just did a restoration on this exact saw.

You guys and your affliction to Craftsman stuff, incredible.

Thanks for sharing, great saw and box. I am sure it will meet Herbs approval and for that matter Don Longs as well.

Thanks 1/2 cup. I know myself I always owned craftsman tools ( mostly hand tools ) and some craftsman tool boxes. I believe craftsman was the tool and tool boxes for the average Joe who was unable to afford the higher end tools like snap on and others. I got just one of those lower roller and just love the quality and vintage look. They where not the easiest to find ( being now 30 40 years old) but they less expensive to collect than say a snap on or other boxes. Its really not hard to go shopping at flea markets, garage sales, or in general and find something craftsman. Some will think its just a old tool but in truth many of those older tools are made so much better than the new stuff imo. I can say one thing is made MUCH better these days and that's cordless tools. I wouldn't know what to do without these. LOL

Wow a very nice saw and box. It is the same as the one I have. That is begging for a resto, both the saw and box. The box is a charmer. What are your plans for it?

Thanks so much for posting this. It is a gem!!

Best Regards

At my dads to pick up somethings and decided to take some pictures of things.
For my long long time followers does any recognize these.

I laugh at times just thinking about my garage progression over the years and things I've owned never go away but get reused.

Although I am eyeing a swap. I'm wondering if I should swap the MBC for the Craftsman?

Personally, I would not swap the MBC for the Craftsman chest. The MBC has too much charm, looking "old school auto shop". I would love to find one like that, it does not have to be a snap on or MAC, but something really old and cherry looking. I am going to reprocess my garage into pre-1970s tools mostly. I remember the guys at Twins Auto and Wrecker Service here had plenty of older boxes and tools. When they went to a new building, they bought all new stuff. It just does not have the same charm their old shop had. 1/2 Cup found an old valve grinding machine and posted a photo. THAT is what I would have loved to have!!!
I am totally PRE-1970's these days.
If you get a chance, PM me the measurements on that wooden box as I may want to build one for my saw.
I would find a chrome logo and a chrome lock for that MBC and it would never leave my shop!!! It is a treasure.

Take care!!

Best Regards
Herb

Well, weather was cool so I decided to hit the attic. I am amazed the it hasn't fallen down yet but got some cleared out. I use the attic for added storage besides your typical holiday stuff. I put a lot of garage and home stuff up there. I got my fishing rods, golf clubs, big shop vac, 3 creepers, ladders, oh my. LOL they are all right around the drop down ladder so I can easily get them. Its a pain in the **** at times but its stuff I don't use that much and beats finding a place in garage for.

I found one bench and loss another again.

With attic sorted some and going through some stuff in garage. I did manage to throw out a bunch of **** today.
65a60781be88cfe1eb70d125c8e85e61.jpg

5 bags of stuff, doors and some odds and ends stuff. I have much much more to go through.
My friend today came and picked up the welding table.

So not bad but not great. Foward progress in my decluttering.

Thanks for the offer on the box, but it would most likely be too expensive to send an item of that weight and size. I can knock together one out of some material I have here. First I will search for a metal one hopefully craftsman brand. I really appreciate your offering to send that one though!!! I will let you know what I come up with.

Best Regards and Thanks for Thinking of Me!!!

I like that track lighting above your bench. I'll have to steal that idea. Where did you get it and was it expensive? Once again thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks, just be careful on the fixture you use. The ones I got are halogen and get really hot. Besides that I like that you can pick up lights and tracks about anywhere even at garage sales. People may not like it for homes no more but works great in a garage setting. Imo

Re: My "Shop"

Great news guys. I was able to merge the My Shop thread and the 5 Stitches Garage thread into one. So one thread makes it so much easier than 2 threads. Big thank you goes to Ryan for helping me on that.

Well its been over 2 1/2 years of my garage threads on the GJ and all I can say is....... WTF... All it looks like i did is move stuff from one side to another. LMFAO. I really wish I knew of the GJ back in 2006 when got the house. You think I change stuff now you didn't see nothing. I amazed that STILL married. LOL

Just a FYI post 1-97 is the my shop thread and from 98- current is 5 stitches thread.

Thanks Gerard

Re: My "Shop"

If there's one thing I hate about my garage and as is a general statement is that when ever I got a project to do the the garage becomes a mess and takes day or two to clean. I was painting part of the outside of the house had both compressors out, paint gun paint and paint trays. A friend came over and then decided to cut a limb off a tree that been issue for a while. Well that turned it pulling out many tools and things. By the time I we got done I was tired and and dark out. I just brought stuff in garage.

Today cleaning up alittle cleaned up and I got the chainsaw to cut up that major limb from night before. I got chainsaw out and needed to fix it before I used it. Had to break out all the spare parts to fix fuel line. I don't understand how you put machines away running perfectly just to go use them and BAM broken fuel lines and major carb issue on riding lawnmower. Its like ppl come at night when I'm sleeping and mess with things. Ugggghhhh...... Its get very frustrating at times.

Yes Gerard its called "murphy's law" and we all have the same sort of issues.....

The good news is that you are resourceful enough to keep your stuff going so you get a pat in the back for that...

There are two types of people in this world when it comes to break downs... Those who pick up the phone book and call a repair man and then there are us "garage warriors" who will not let murphy hold us down... Keep up the good fight, garage brethren!

Thanks Sean, I wanna kick Murphy's *** sometimes. I really get tired with especially my 2 cycle stuff. I buy the good fuel lines from the lawn equipment places and they still get hard, crack and break.

Chainsaws are a pain in the *** cause lines are all buried. Guess its a good thing I got 2 of them. I have a 18 and 14 but hate it cause I put 18 in storage mood. I empty all gas run dry but I keep the 14 in use mood. I have that all fueled, oiled up and chain sharp. I also have a attachment pole saw for my string trimmer but with 8in bar its light duty.

Here's a funny thing. I have a tanaka 2cycle edger I never in 8yrs I had it and 8 have FIL had it never never repalced fuel lines. WTF did they use. I gonna find that stuff.

I think it is the ethanol in the fuel that causes the issues... Maybe look into fuel line for the e-85 drag racing applications.

I have a 20-inch gas chainsaw and a 12-inch gas pole saw that only come out for special events (like hurricane cleanup). For the everyday stuff I just use a Remington 16-inch electric chainsaw. I even have a real cheap no-name 14-inch electric chainsaw for cutting roots. The chain takes a beating with the dirt and rocks but the shorter blade is cheap compared to my transient stump grinder guy.

Mr. Murphy has been a regular visitor to my homes for more than 50 years. I have ignored him, yelled at him, called him the worst names but he just keeps coming back.

Hey Gerard, I just finished reading through your "5 Stiches" thread - now I have to go back to the beginning (to read the "Shop thread"). :willy_nil

Just kidding, it won't be a hardship (going back to the start) - you have so many good practical storage ideas - I'm actually looking forward to watching the "prequel".

I know for a fact it is but I go buy the green ethanol resist lines and still have the issue. I'm going to have to go to one of the mower places and see if have better stuff.

Just thought about it. I was watching a boating show and said if storing boat to fill the tank and stabilize it. Maybe it ethanol and air eating lines?

I have the 3 18, 14, and the pole attachment didn't think I needed the electric one. After what you said, and issues I been having the electric might not be a bad idea.

Yep, I've been dealing with him for a long time myself. It got taken to another level back in 2006 when we bought the house. The damn ******* moved in literally...

Well I've caught up again now Gerard (I went back to read the "my shop" thread). :D

You had a welding table with a folding top section, then at one point you cut it down into a cart - I don't remember seeing anything about it in the "5 stiches" thread.
Did you ever replace it with another welding table, or attach the top to something else or did I just miss that instalment?

I've been looking at different options for making a welding table of some kind (that doesn't take up too much space) - and that one looked like a good design, was there a problem with it?

Keep up the good work.

Well the one in the old thread was great and there was nothing wrong with it. GARAGE and GERARD HAPPEN LOL. I thought the cart would have been better idea being smaller but at that point I really started collecting my craftsman stuff so it went also. I had to do back to post 340 to find the last one I built. I made a thread about the build.
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=246519
Its a old thread I tried to show something different than your avg everyday table. It didn't get that many rave reviews but it was best table to date. That table also went bye bye to make room for another roller I found although I can still visit it cause a friend has it.

My future plans is to build a drop table like that on back of one bottom craftsman rollers. My needs doesn't require a BIG table plus they can be heavy and take up lots of room. If you want something highly portable and that doesn't take up much room at all I highly suggest one of theses.

You can find these just about anywhere. Its foldable, portable and you can customize top to your needs wether it be steel, hardy board, or whatever. Simpler is always better. Good luck.

Re: My "Shop"

Was having a conversation over on Shopnuts thread with Shopnut, Wingnut, and myself about organizing and came across the 5 Stitches Garage problem. Wingnut gave me some insight to a theory....

That's the Ol' "Space Creates Vacuum" theory! That clear spot is like a Black Hole with such a strong gravitational pull that something gets pulled in and fills that space. [emoji33]

I finally got the truth and now I know why Im having such a issue in my garage.

LMFAO
