Re: My "Shop"

Have they built a WaWa up in the Brooksville area yet? I know a couple of them in the Brandon area carry "boat fuel" ethanol-free gasoline. You'd think it was made of gold based on what they're charging though.
Not yet. They built them south of me. I think closest one is in Port Richey by US19 and Ridge rd if correct. How much more per gallon is it than 87?

Re: My "Shop"

Been trying to clean up the house and garage for a big gathering this weekend. I really came to a point where its time to take my garage and life to a different place. I've only just turned 40 but I've seen many things happen to families close to me and decided to start living my "golden years" now. Wife and I will still work, keep the same house but plan to spend are free time enjoying life.

Its really hard to put into words my plan and results it will achieve. My mom always said a cluttered house or a house in chaos equals a life in chaos. I already made a plan of attack. Start in each room and get rid of stuff and work out to the garage. The attic will be reorganized and gone through and finally the garage. I already had a plan to get rid of my old Ranger, riding lawn mower, 2 old generators.

The house isn't the issue but garage attic and every place I've used to hide things are. I do have 2 planned home improvements in Feb. I have bad feeling garage men are gonna hate me. LOL

Hey Gerard, "hate" is a rather strong word - we may show "immense disappointment" or cries of “why the %^&* would he do that!!!”, but not “hate”.

I am in the same boat and plan to attack the house this winter room by room.... I have acquired so much clutter that I fear I have become a hoarded... Everytime I run to Home Depot for a board or bolt or washer and it cost $25-50 cause I grab a few more things I started just keeping more and more scrap to try to up-cycle items for the next project. But I think it's out of control.

I've been fortunate to find a lot of stuff on trash days. So giving or paying it foward in a way. Stuff will either be picked up by pickers, trash man or be donated to local place depending on condition.

Although it may not look like it from some of my posts, I have been doing the clean out thing for about two years. You get a lot of relief from getting rid of things at home. My wife and i have had a 50 year marriage next April, and the accumulations from all our various projects were showing up and choking us out. I have been cleaning out for a long time and I plan to keep on doing it. I no longer have any place to put anything, so I am only going to have what I really need around the garage, and in the house. Everything we have possession wise has a meaning, as being from family or our own marriage. We just keep the things that mean something to us. I will still go and get projects at the flea markets, but I will carefully select things I really want to redo and keep.
I think your on the exact right path!!!

I've done the same over years. A great source of pride of mine is that I built my garage from this or that with a lot of second hand stuff. I didn't actually buy a lot in comparison to a lot others I've seen. I always seem to find I use for a repurposed item. I believe that's a good skill and a big hinderence too. The house isnt a issue cause wife does great job there. It my garage, attic and outside storage which I need to deal with. Every bin is full, attic has way to much **** (which is my overflow for garage), and too many ill get to that someday projects. Its all become to much and a burden.

I can say the same about my place being everything is tucked away. The house isn't bad but garage is last stop before it heads out. Years of stuff I found homes for and I'm out of room just like you.

The biggest thing is that I just wanna live carefree lifestyle. Many things in about pass 6 months has me making a big change in life and home. Most will make changes after life hits them in the face and I've just decided to live alittle before it does. Get rid of things not needed and spending more time with my biggest supporter (the wife). Win win in my book.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

I share the same overpacked storage problems you all are discussing. It does feel good to get rid of things that no longer have purpose at least for me. And sending even one item down the road to be used by someone else is a good feeling rather than just going to the dump. I'm on the same kick of cleaning out secondary storage areas especially in my basement which always gets the overflow. Cleaned out the garage attic earlier this year and the basement is the fall/winter project. Anything with value will go to consignment shop or Salvation Army store. Plain old junk goes to trash with a few items listed for sale locally.
Keep up the process and soon you will have room again for a project or two that you want to work on now and get satisfaction from. Also the goal of making some life changes and spending more time with the wife is great. You will not regret it. Keep the momentum.

Thank you for the support. Funny part is that's wife never brought this up. I been trying alittle here and there with little to no success. So time to kick it up to 10 LOL..... realistically a good 7 or 8 would be my goal.

Re: My "Shop"

My next remodel inside house not scheduled to February. I started the the planning stage of next garage remodel. I will attack this area next.
a26ab73c2e5b71943765310fa10da3a6.jpg

My plan is to move the fridge to dryer location with a W/H to the top I nice sink area and bulk storage where fridge sits currently. That all depends on what I find in the walls.

In Florida all plumbing runs under the slab and come up into the walls. If I decided to move any of the water lines they will be move horizontal through the studs. If that water lines aren't a issue enough I have to find room somewhere to run a dryer vent also. I don't want it inside the closet I built ( cause don't wanna heat that room up) and can't run out into garage cause of space issues so up will only option. I know there's a 5 inch vent stack in wall also. This will be a tricky tricky project fitting plumbing, dryer vent, and drain vent all within a 8ft wall.

Have a good one, Gerard

My inlaws sold there house and moving closer to us. That's a good thing but also means my father in law in cleaning up some of his things in the process. One thing came over this pass weekend.

My FIL was a big sulf cast fisherman and back in the day he made many of his own lead sinkers. This isn't pure lead but a lead something he said.

Here's another item.

I homemade drill powered fishing reel winder.

Here's one more.

I've used these for few years now. Its saw volt and amp draw. You can plug this to power and any tool up to 25 amp in see amp draw of a item. Its really cool to see homemade stuff from back when you had to make stuff to needed.

Gerard, you have picked up some really neat gear from your FIL, especially the meters.[emoji106]

Thanks guys. I've used it few times. It came it handy when testing running amp draw on like compressors and saws. I once used it to figure out why neighbors breaker kept tripping. It ended up being the surge on his compressor.

I need one of those!
Sorry, its already gone to family member. I'm sure ppl have there opinions on Ford's but imo that's one of the best small trucks out there. They are simple tough trucks. That was my second and many friends I know had them. Fords worse mistakes is one not making a full 4 door version and second doing away with the Ranger.

Re: My "Shop"

Life been good as of late. I really enjoyed being able to park my vehicles in my garage each night. I got some organizing done in my tool boxes.
7533aa47308ea42db59d70cbc0cfabf3.jpg

I've also been doing a lot of thinking on February's remodel. I figuring out everything scenario of what can be moved and what can't now will surly help when the time comes. This is the basic idea I've come up with.
e85c3482ea78fd199171a07e8ca500c8.jpg

I will have approx 36 in of bulk storage, the sink with gen under it then the water heater on the ground, then the fridge.
Here's a visual
ff9accf77eab0c23f2d5877b976425a9.jpg

I plan to build a bench approx 8 ft long 2 ft deep from where the HF bench ends to fridge. It will be free standing and height of the HF bench. Visually it will look like a 16 ft long bench
d8e72e3901f076582b8d0da8b81b2180.jpg

Only thing is I got to wait until Feb to tear into this but rather sit here and plan everything now.

Re: My "Shop"

Not much going on around here with the packing and moving of my in-laws. I did do some that warranted a update.

I found this Kennedy on side of road slated for the dump.

I stopped the truck and grabbed it. I got it home and start going through the drawers. I threw out some of the junk and kept the good.

Plans for this.......? Well I did tell wife I wanted a mixed tank for my welder so ill probably cut the bad out and use this welding practice on sheet metal. I did temporary find a home for it and I'm really liking it.

Not only did you find a tool box, but you found one with tools in it!

The rust should be repairable (everything's repairable if you want it badly enough) and it looks good in it's new home.

Nice find on the roadside Kennedy. Definitely a project worthy of rescue. Looks like a leather handle? That dates it to be pretty old.

Thanks man. Actually the box is good shape overall. The felt is shot, front cover is missing, and the big *** hole in bottom but rest of the metal is in good shape. I don't know how the box can be good and bottom rusted out.
The tools are the icing on cake. Useable stuff that I didn't have is always good.

Thanks man, yeah I gonna try to save it. The bottom is the only bad thing and really I could use it as is. Yep, its a leather handle Kennedy which does make it a older one but don't know how old. I do know the the handle and lock is about only way( that I know ) to put a date on how old a Kennedy is. Even the guys in the vintage tool box thread dont know Kennedy's dating method. The older ones had briefcase style lock vs barrel lock. Someone said something about the slides but all mine are the same so idk. Kennedy's stayed unchanged for many years and with changes being nobs, handle and lock.

WOW, That really nice box. I think that's one of those which that call a square top. That real old one. I know you have been losing your marbles in the Asylum but your still not that crazy to leave a Kennedy on side of the road.:lol_hitti

If you are getting that forgetful I can go through your thread and pick out some things for you to forget.

Giving a "You ****" on the Kennedy. Your garage is looking great in all details. It looks like it is a pleasure to work in that shop. The key is organization, which you have right on it!! Good Job!!

Thanks Herb, I'm working on all the details and being more organized. February redo should be a big help. A total decluttering of the shop then my garage life will be good.

Not sure about specific Kennedy dating methods but what I've seeing in general is anything with a leather handle is typically pre-WWII. Post war started with cast and stamped metal handles and later progressed to molded plastic. I suppose there could be some post war leather handle models made but I would not suspect very many years so I would say this is a pretty old box.

Wow, pre WWII. If that the case that would be the oldest box I got. Now thinking about it my hip Craftsman portable has a leather handle and think its from same era. The handle is very similar.

So that means they didn't change that box design for many many years. That's good info to know and now definitely gonna fix it up.

Re: My "Shop"

Ok I'm revisiting a idea I came up with. I showed it on the neat stuff on your wall thread and got blasted cause they say it wouldn't hold anything or couldn't be trusted. I said ******** to that and went on my way.

Today I need to store some odd ball garage stuff for inlaws in preparation for the move in next week. So I revisited the idea with improvements.
I started off with a quick clap like this.
6033608a74e1081af06e7b2934fbbcd6.jpg

I had 6 large ones
b2333ddee3ed950f4789b9a6b64b0560.jpg

763fab929659d3c12b28d3bb106bfd54.jpg

Except here's my mod. I didn't use the soft pads and drilled a angled hole in jaw.
c0be26c783feb9dc653871663c312033.jpg

They where clapped down tight and screwed in. Then loaded them up.
04e4cc08a66d097ce46a11fad6e51490.jpg

78b30ff46e750e9acc8322e10706a123.jpg

I did add some claps to edge to keep stuff from falling off.
c58e02a794a8710425657dfe82123193.jpg

I used this idea before when I was remodelling to hold my molding and pipe so it would get damaged and now reusing it again but now with heavier stuff. I think its a great temp shelf idea and thought I would share it with the masses.
